Overview[]

Description[]

Vaultbreaker is an average sized member of the CentiWing tribe. His horns, whiskers and tail pincers are are bright orange color, which is similar to a discolored piece of Treasure. His underbelly is a very dark gray color.

Vaultbreaker's main scales are an alternating pattern made of a dull gold color and a duller green color. These colors alternate at roughly even intervals, with them being placed one after another. His top-ish scales a darker version of his main scale color, and are more reminiscent of a proper gold color.

Personality[]

Vaultbreaker is known for being a very charismatic dragon, and for being pleasant to speak to. He is also a skilled actor, and can very accurately put on a show of being repentant, or completely oblivious to what is going on, which he uses to get his crimes and schemes going.

In reality, Vaultbreaker is extremely manipulative, and appears to have little feelings of remorse and/or guilt. This includes matters where he needs to frame someone else, or simply just kill them, where he almost seems to not care about the action at all. This is because he simply shuts these in the back of his mind while plotting another heist.

He is quite clever as well, and has a response to almost anything anyone says to him, practically within the instant. He formats his words in such a way that he can confuse or persuade the dragon he is currently speaking with.

He does tend to care about some dragons, but purely in ways that allow him to accomplish his crimes much easier than without them. There are a few dragons that Vaultbreaker does genuinely like, but he has no qualms with selling them out if it means he can slip back into the background.

Valutbreaker is a very cautious dragon, almost to the point of being cowardly. He will run away from a situation if he decides there's something like even a 40% chance or so that he might get caught, but he has been getting a bit more bold with the risks he takes.

History[]

Vaultbreaker was hatched in 4989 AS in the Copper Catacombs nest. He hatched roughly two months after his brother, then named Granite, and three years before his second brother, then named Flicker. Flicker and Pyrite (Read: Vaultbreaker) were quite close, united by a shared interest in rare minerals and gemstones, while their brother preferred working in the mines with their father, Quarrier Blackstone.

Pyrite and Flicker would often hold competitions with each other to see who could find the shiniest rock/gemstone. This often led to Pyrite yanking materials from the end-of-day hauls from his brother and father, just generally making them extremely annoyed.

Pyrite went to school when when he was eligible to do so, and just generally hated it there. He enjoyed some subjects, namely science and history, but despised the other ones. He took the time to educate himself on psychology as well, as he believed it would be useful later. Additionally, he originally wished to apply for a medical profession, as he knew it paid well and that it wouldn't be overly difficult.

After his third molt, Pyrite attempted to become a psychologist of some kind, but found no one who he could apprentice under. So, he apprenticed under a dragon he knew nothing about to become a vaultkeeper. He found the job to be slightly enjoyable, but was already making plans to switch to something he found more "fun." His plans never actually came to fruition, so Pyrite was given his vocational License and changed his name to Vaultkeeper.

Vaultkeeper worked in his job for a few years, but constantly felt bored and burnt out, not to mention that he had very little money to call his own. So, after about a month of having to dig food out of dumpsters, Vaultkeeper made his first real move at theft. He went to some of the safes which the dragons in his profession used to keep money, and opened it up using the codes he knew. Vaultkeeper took about 50 Treasure Pieces worth of money, and hid them away in a satchel he'd worn to work that day.

These 50 pieces actually got Vaultkeeper pretty far, and he was able to actually get some good food and living conditions for himself, at least for the month. He pulled off a similar scheme at the beginning of the next month, and grabbed another 50 pieces. Vaultkeeper repeated this process for probably about 4 or so years until he was 13 years old.

Vaultkeeper was caught one day by his employer, Vaultkeeper Goldenrod, who attempted to seize both Pyrite and the money. Pyrite was able to slip away unharmed, and with most of the money (though he'd dropped roughly a quarter of it). He knew that there wasn't much of a chance that he could stay in the Nest, since the Inspectors would be after him soon. So, Vaultkeeper ran away.

Vaultkeeper ran away to Jasmine Knoll, as he found it the more convenient place to go. So, he entered the nest, and spent a few days on the outskirts of the nest just studying the dragons he saw, listening on their conversations. After about a week of this, he finally introduced himself to the nest, using the knowledge he had to almost seamlessly slip into the life of Jasmine Knoll. He opened a small banking service in a stall near the outer area of the nest, close to a place he could run to.

Eventually, Vaultkeeper began to realize that the dragons of Jasmine Knoll didn't do a lot of actual money withdrawal, just kind of hoarding. So, considering his profession, Vaultkeeper took the safe one night and just up and left. Knowing that he would no longer be welcome anywhere near Jasmine Knoll, he migrated to Crawlspace, where he was quite a bit more careful.

Vaultbreaker first started by changing his name to, well, Vaultbreaker. It was unique for the most part, and he didn't have any intentions of interacting with anyone outside of other criminals. He stayed around the outer areas of the nest proper, and would sometimes dive into other dragons' dens and yoink their stuff, selling it off at a later date. This was where Vaultbreaker found his primary contact, Fletcher Redstripe.

Redstripe and Vaultbreaker have a very professional relationship. Vaultbreaker will bring Fletcher an object of some sort, Fletcher will sell it, and they split the money. Typically the split is 50/50, but depending on the item the split can swing one way or the other. Usually it's Fletcher who loses money off of these transactions, but since he has an actually well-paying job unlike Vaultbreaker, he really doesn't mind as much.

Vaultbreaker has been keeping at this for roughly 15 years, over which he has actually made a few connections. He currently has safehouses in the Copper Catacombs, Jasmine Knoll, Crawlspace and the Balding basin. These places are usually where he stores any excess goods that he cannot carry, and can take a break at in case he needs to stick around for the night.

Miscellaneous[]

Relationships[]

Fletcher Redstripe[]

Fletcher and Vaultbreaker have a pretty good relationship, and one that is entirely professional. Vaultbreaker steals the objects and Fletcher sells them off. He runs a pawn shop on the side, which Vaultbreaker ends providing a rather sizable stock for.

Fletcher and Vaultbreaker have a mutual respect for each other. Fletcher because Vaultbreaker can be decently loyal to a cause if he believes it to be worthwhile, and Vaultbreaker for Fletcher because the latter has a stable situation that is unlikely to be overturned any time soon.

Quarrier Granite[]

Quarrier is Vaultbreaker's elder brother, and the two have never seen eyes to eye, nor will they likely ever. Quarrier always found his brother to be far too conniving and just generally sneaky to ever be much of anything, and Vaultbtreaker just didn't like Quarrier's approach to things.

On top of that, Quarrier was the first dragon Vaultbreaker ever directly stole anything from (most of the other runs had been false banking efforts), with the item being one of Quarrier's favorite pickaxes.

Goldsmith Flicker[]

Goldsmith is Vaultbreaker's younger brother, and the two are usually neutral towards each other. They've always had a rather healthy sense of sibling rivalry towards the other, but they wouldn't actually harm each other.

Goldsmith has a sense of genuine respect for his brother, and he actually hasn't made any moves to stop him, unlike Quarrier. So, as a "thank you" Vaultbreaker has generally left Goldsmith alone, even if his brother's creations make him practically salivate just by looking at them.

Lithographer Bullseye[]

Lithographer is Vaultbreaker's most recent contact, and one of his most useful ones. She is also currently the only other dragon aside from Fletcher that Vaultbreaker considers to be an actual friend. Being a Lithographer, Bullseye makes Vocational Licenses, which Vaultbreaker finds great use in. Vaultbreaker has roughly four of these, and, with them, about four separate identities that he can pull out in a pinch.

Additionally, Lithographer is the owner of Vaultbreaker's safe house in Jasmine Knoll, which is where the majority of his schemes take place, as it is the easiest place to run an operation. As payment for her invaluable services, Lithographer takes roughly a quarter of Vaultbreaker's shares, after Fletcher takes his portion. Vaultbreaker is content with this setup, as it assures him a useful ally.

Strengths[]

  • Acting: Vaultbreaker is a talented actor, and can easily put on shows of a wide range of emotions.
  • Speed: Vaultbreaker is a very fast and wiry.
  • General Slippiness: Vaultbreaker is talented at simply getting out of any given situation

Weaknesses[]

  • Underestimation: Vaultbreaker has a tendency to underestimate his victims, specifically their perception.
  • Mild Thrill addiction: Vaultbreaker is probably "addicted" to the thrill of a heist, and probably couldn't stop even if he wanted to.

Other[]

Vaultbreaker's safe houses are currently in undisclosed locations in Jasmine Knoll, Crawlspace, Balding Basin and the Copper Catacombs. Fletcher Redstrip lives in the Crawlspace safe house, and the Jasmine Knoll safe house is one that belongs to Lithographer Bullseye. The Copper Catacombs and Balding basin safe houses are uninhabited.

Vaultbreaker currently "owns:"

  • A golden bracelet
  • A silver horn band
  • A booklet on caverns and mines (for safe house purposes)
  • Several fake vocational licenses ("donated" by Lithographer Bullseye)
  • A steel dagger that he usually wears in a scabbard on his wrist.
  • At least 512 pieces of treasure that he keeps on himself in a satchel around his neck
  • Probably 4,000 other pieces of treasure, divided amongst his storehouses
  • One stone safe, which he uses for "banks"
  • One talon-sized, blood-red ruby, likely equal to the entirety of his life's savings.
