Varroa is a slender dragoness, moving fluidly like the light from a flamesilk lantern. Her black stripes seem to be shadows, adjusting perfectly to any situation, just as their wearer does. Her face is long and elegantly shaped, with angular features, and narrow amber eyes. Her teeth are long and sharp, and her tongue is a pale pink. Her tail is long and frighteningly thin, curling in to reveal a stinger that is polished black. Her legs are long and are padded by a slight amount of muscle.
Varroa's scales are a darker copper color that fades to a duller brown along her back. She is marked with thick black stripes that run along her back and wings. Her wings are a fiery-amber color that are lined with vibrant yellow veins. Her over-scale are a chocolatey brown. Her horns and claws are a dark brown, nearly black.
Varroa should not be confused for a dragon that strives to free the SilkWings and reunite with the LeafWings. She is driven mainly by a sense of purpose and a longing for greater power. She enjoys being a figure of fear, and enjoys seeing other squirm. Her goal is to rule the HiveWings and SilkWings for herself under a more peaceful rule, and possibly even rule the LeafWings.She is a skilled negotiator, and participated in the LeafWing delegations. She is known among the more common HiveWings as a smart dragonness that always knows what she is doing.
Varroa participated in the LeafWing delegations before the Tree Wars. She used her mysterious aura to prompt others to talk, gaining information that she could use against them later. Her skill led her to be a close advisor of the queen, and once she saw the power at Queen Wasp's claws, she wanted it for herself. Unwilling to use her skills to help a ruler she wanted to overthrow, she resigned, leaving the job to an unskilled underling that ultimately led to the Tree Wars. She became a merchant, selling and trading valuable goods until she had built up a reputation as a shrewd dragon among the commoners, someone impossible to cross. While studying her more artistic wares, she decided to become an artist. She enrolled in at the Jewel Hive School of the Arts, learning how to paint and sculpt. Following an attempt of a teacher, an older HiveWing in his eighties, to criticize her work, she bought the school and expanded it until it was the most popular in Jewel Hive.

• Varroa is a parasitic mite that affects honeybees. They are one of the leading causes in the loss of the honeybee population, and attack the bee’s internal organs, causing great harm. I chose Varroa to be the name of the radical rebellion leader for multiple reasons. She is ruining the aristocratic portion of her society from inside of their ranks, like a mite attacking the internal organs of the bee. Her organization, the Falling Sun, is also rapidly growing in lengths, like the exponential growth of the varroa mite population. Her hair color is also similar to the color of the mite.
