  • Royalty
  • High positions (Baron/ess, generals, nobility)
  • Treecreepers
  • Mudstalkers

Appearance[]

GrassWings are small, thin dragons with long bodies and tails like RainWings, large SkyWing-esque wings, a scale pattern that faintly resembles a SkyWing's crossed with a MudWing's, and the dark stripes of HiveWings. But this is where the noticeable similarities to other tribes end, and the GrassWings become something all their own.

Their legs--especially their hind ones--are extremely strong, and much longer than those of the other tribes. Their bodies are built for speed on the ground, not in flight, resulting in them being much faster than other tribes in land races, but miserable fliers. As a result of their poor aerial capabilities, most dragonets are only taught the basics, and at a later age than most tribes learn. They can stand comfortably on their powerful hind legs to observe their surroundings, much like meerkats, but they have trouble walking bipedally for more than a few steps.

GrassWings usually have grass-green, brown or yellow scales, striped with black or brown for camouflage. The

History[]

Pre-Scorching[]

  • Originally a wild tribe, but were captured and domesticated by scavengers soon after they began to eat from scavenger farms.
  • Were bred to be smaller, with stronger legs, so that scavengers could ride them like horses, or use them for farming.
  • Before the Scorching officially began, the first dragons who would become GrassWings escaped from scavenger captivity.
  • The scavengers tried to recapture the escapees, but didn't try too hard, because they still had several stables full of GrassWings.

The Scorching[]

  • Joined the Scorching very early-on.
  • GrassWings stealthily killed large groups of scavengers by hanging upside-down in orchards and tree farms, and releasing poisonous pollen from their bodies, which the scavengers were very allergic to at the time.
  • Near the end of the Scorching, the remaining population of GrassWings were decimated by a scavenger raid, when around two thirds of the tribe were rounded up, and the grasslands were set on fire in hopes to kill off the remaining members of the tribe.

The War of Chains[]

  • The War of Chains--also know as the Forgotten War--broke out as the result of a dispute over the Winding Tail River, which was the GrassWing-SandWing border at the time.
  • The GrassWings recruited the MudWings as allies.
  • The SandWings did not have any allies, but their tail barbs and fire were more than enough to beat the GrassWings--at first.
  • The GrassWings won the war with the help of the MudWings.
  • They acquired a large amount of territory across the river, as well as possession of the river itself.
  • In secret, they also enslaved the SandWings who were living along the river and in the hills.

Retreat[]

  • 250 years before the War of SandWing Succession, the GrassWings were threatened by MudWing and SeaWing encroachment onto their territory.
  • Due to the tribe's crippling fear of fire, the GrassWings were forced to retreat to the westernmost reaches of their territory, along the Winding Tail River, and the mountains they had conquered centuries ago.
  • The MudWings, not wanting their enemies to have any more territory, took most of the GrassWings' territory for themselves.
  • The MudWing royals, aware that the tribe still existed, kept the rest of the tribes away from the territory. The current MudWing queen at the time, Carob, built her palace near the lake, across the water from Queen Serengeti's Fortress.

SandWing Succession[]

  • The GrassWings didn't actively participate in the war, because they had been enemies with the SandWings for a very long time, and they thought all three of the sisters were unworthy for the throne.
  • Despite not actively fighting, the GrassWings would capture and enslave most of the soldiers and scouts who flew through the territory, aside from the MudWings (and the majority of their allies).
  • When Thorn became queen, she ordered that Queen Serengeti free all of the enslaved SandWings. Serengeti refused, but released those who had been captured during the war.

- I'm thinking either blue with yellow stripes or yellow with blue stripes to mimic the sky and grass blades, so I would really like to see Tui pull off their designs.

- They probably won't have fire either, since they would set the entire grassland ablaze with a cough. Skin poison maybe?

- They would probably be more land-based than flight, with strong hind legs for a powerful jump and running speed.

- Actually, large wings would work wonders to help cool the dragon down and ensure circulation, as well as give shade to the rest of the dragon vital organs.

- I can imagine groups of GrassWings spreading their wings to form canopies for each other's backs and for playing dragonets.

- Named after things in the savannah, also after kinds of plants, flowers, and big cats

- Long spines that resemble grass blades in the wind.

- Blue, brown, or black markings on green, gold, light brown, or yellow scales.

- Thin like RainWings, with very large wings that have small spots on the undersides.

- 'Disappeared mysteriously without a trace' around 3,000 AS, still seen occasionally (my reason why they aren't in the NightWing's Guide to Pyrrhia)

- Territory was claimed by MudWings after their 'disappearance'; MudWing queen's palace was moved further inland

- Long horns
