Chapter 1[]

Agate and Moth were sitting on a rock overlooking the Diamond Spray Delta, near the Mud Kingdom. “I wish we could find somewhere to settle down for a while,” Moth sighed, “Its getting harder and harder to avoid soldiers, Scarlet’s and Moorhen’s”.  They looked at each other, “It’ll be okay” said Agate, as he wrapped his tail around Moths, “The world wont be at war for much longer.” At least I hope it wont, he thought worriedly, If it stays this way we’ll have to go somewhere safer, the rainforest maybe?

Later that day, they were sitting closer to the edge of the river and they heard a whisper behind them “Follow me,” it said quietly. They both whipped around and looked for the voice that had spoken. It had been small and timid, like a pheasant or a mouse-

“Thats it!” Agate leapt up and began searching where the voice had come from, “Help me look?” he said to Moth. “Lets go,” they grinned at each other and sped off after the smell of the tiny creature.

After about half an hour of running, Agate and Moth saw the mouse disappear through a small tunnel of wisteria. “Thats too small for us,” Agate kicked a stone in frustration, “Its okay my love,” Moth whispered soothingly, “We’ll just fly over it”. “Okay fine,” Agate huffed as he leapt into the air, “Come on, quickly” he called to Moth as he shot along the top of the wisteria vines, just underneath the tree cover.

They reached the end of the vines and landed lightly on the ground, to avoid scaring the mouse. “There,” hissed Moth as she spotted the mouse speedily disappearing into another patch of vines. “Follow it again?” Agate looked at Moth, “Of course!” she said excitedly, “We haven't had this much fun in a long time.”

Half a day later, they finally found the mouse again. “There!” whispered Agate as he spotted it through the vines, in a clearing five tail lengths away. “Oh-“ Moth gasped as she saw the hundreds of strawberry bushes that lined the edges of the clearing, “Strawberries!” Agate started forward. “You idiot” Moth hissed, “You’ll scare the mouse.”

They slowly crept into the clearing, their wings and feet sore after flying and running through the forest all day. “Oh my gosh!” said Moth excitedly, “Theres a cave too, its perfect for us!” Agate looked like he was trying to swallow a bug, his bottom jaw was just hanging there as he stared around the clearing. “Your right,” he said, “This is perfect!”

“And that mouse” Moth started, “Led you dragons straight to it” finished the mouse, appearing out of the undergrowth next to them. Agate jumped and Moth looked astonished as the mouse spoke to them, “How-“ Moth started again, “Can I speak?” Finished the mouse once more. “Well, I don’t actually know, “I always lived near a dragon encampment and I guess I picked it up there,” he said, “One day I was squeaking and the next I was speaking dragon.” “Wow” Moth whispered, at a loss for words.

After a long nights sleep, Moth and Agate woke up and saw the mouse, he was sitting there watching them. “Thank you,” Moth said quietly, “We were homeless until you led us here and we are truly grateful for that.” “Its the least I could do,” he said, “You are some of the few vegetarian dragons, you looked sad and I knew you wouldn’t eat me so I thought I’d bring you here.” He finished.

“Well I hope we meet again sometime!” Agate called as the mouse sped off into the trees, “Me too!” He yelled back as he turned and looked at them, then he shot over the edge of the river bank and swam to the other side. “Well, we can settle here for a while,” Agate said happily, “Just like you wanted.”
