Thermia can breathe both frost and fire, tolerate cold temperatures, though not well as an IceWing, and fly well.
She's also masterfully skilled in talon-to-talon combat and the wielding of close combat weapons like swords, daggers, axes, maces, and spears due to growing up in the SkyWing Arena.
History[]
Thermia was born on the Brightest Night, the only reason she survived was because she was born to an IceWing captive. She would never know her mother though, as soon after being layed, the IceWing would die in the Arena, leaving the egg to hatch alone.
Her hatching would surprise many, not just because of her hybrid nature, but because no one knew of her in the first place. She was hidden beneath layers of dirty hay where prisoner gladiators not chained to pillars were kept, and so no one expected an egg to be there, much less survive due to the harsh and unhygienic conditions. Thermia was a fighter though, and her fierce nature was soon recognized by the guards after her wailing caused a ruckus. After being taken away from the group of baffled and irate prisoners who found her, she would be brought to Scarlet, who flippantly decided to not to kill her after Thermia showed the ability to both spit sparks and frost, deciding the situation was amusing.
After surviving the encounter with the Queen, the guards were left with Thermia since Scarlet has left the decision up to them after quickly losing interest in the dragonet. They were clueless about what to do, and after a long discussion involving the topic of some guards' respective families like wives, husbands, and dragonets, along with a great deal of alcohol, the guards settled on raising her as one of their own, after all paperwork for dropping off orphans had become pricy and complicated since the beginning of the war in order to discourage living parents from abandoning their eggs since there were so many dragonets with dead parents to care for.
Since then, she has informally served a guard and a gladiator in order to cement her status as a SkyWing citizen through strength and bravery-that she wasn't just some hybrid prisoner of war. Eventually she succeeded, with her fighting being so thrilling and appealing due to her unique set of abilities that Scarlet formerly inducted her into the guard. She then worked as a professional gladiator and guard, until Scarlet's defeat. Thermia survived the ruthlessness of the Sky Kingdom by being one of Scarlet's favorites, hence her not being pitted against Peril, however, with Ruby's reign, many of Scarlet's supporters were chased out either directly or indirectly by the crown, and while Thermia was ambivalent if not wary of the ex-Queen, her status as one of Scarlet's killers resulted in her being forced out of the Sky Kingdom.
She was lost, until meeting Wavecloud, one of the more memorable volunteer gladiators she had fought with before. Wavecloud revealed he was moving to Jade Mountain to join the Academy, and invited Thermia to move nearby so they could hang out. Thermia, now having a goal and determined to go through with it, made plans to move to a town close to the school, and to find a guard job or something similar. She ended being hired by Tsunami to be a battle instructor, and ended up surprising Wavecloud on his first day, knowing of their shared passion for battle.
