Appearance

Sunlight is a large and unhealthily thin SandWing with an intense, gaunt face. He’s usually hunched over and his frayed wings are held close to his body like a cloak. This defensive posture is supplemented by his twitchy and constantly raised stinger. The presence this creates often drives off most dragons, and wisely so, since for most of his life, Sunlight has been a viscous and unpredictable junkie.

His body is a light sandy yellow color, and his belly and wings are a nearly white cream color. His horns swerve backwards like upturned elephant tusks-though his left one is broken, and his claws are like dull black fishhooks. The large eye bags on his face frame black marble like eyes, and numerous claws marks, bite marks, and scratch marks litter his body. Sunlight’s stiff jagged sail is a honey yellow color that slowly turns into a burnt brown at the edge. His stinger is also a similar burnt brown, though it darkens into a near black brown at the tip. Honey yellow scales also accent his spine, wingtips, stinger, forehead, and forelimbs.

History

Sunlight was born to a poor SandWing couple in the Viper Den, the criminal ridden city of the Southern Sand Kingdom. There he grew up hunger, and tired, but well loved by his parents who were determined to care for him. Eventually when they gather enough money, the family was able to move out to the Owl Den in the Northern Sand Kingdom, which was a city filled with scholars and artists.

In the Owl Den, taking the opportunity given by his parents’ hard work to rise from his low class, Sunlight worked hard, studying in the SandWing Academy for Arts and Science, to become a doctor. He did well, and made many connections and friendships with his naturally friendly personality and charismatic charm. However as Sunlight grew, he began to nurse a budding alcohol addiction which led him to many parties.

This slowly distanced him from his parents, who didn’t even know what was becoming of their son, and his friends, who didn’t want to be associated with the crowds Sunlight began to surround himself with. Eventually, during one party, Sunlight smoked a laced cigarette, and he was hooked. Addiction gripped him, though its claws were slow to tighten. Once he realized what had happened to him it was too late. He refused to reach out for help, as suppressed shame that he had buried resurfaced.

Since then, Sunlight has slowly spiraled into madness, returning to the Viper Den from whence he came. So far, he’s done jobs from drug runs, to thievery, to murder. He’s well aware of how far he’s fallen, and guilt grips him every day, but oceans of self-loathing and self-pity along with highs choke him and some days it’s a struggle to even get up at all.

His presence in the Viper Den wasn’t anything special, cocky privileged dragons who get addicted and fall to the whims of substance is a story told over and over again. When he first arrived he was also thrown in with the same lot, even got the mocking nickname “Sunny-boy”, and from others perspective, they wouldn’t be wrong, but Sunlight remembers the streets. He proved his worth through blood, sweat, and tears, though, not that that was his goal. Wip
