Polar is the son of Queen Glacier's brother and will be the future king of the SeaWings. (Includes story The Lost Dragonet.)

Current: King of the SeaWings

Past: Ice Kingdom

Status: Alive

Children: Beluga (in honor of Mako's lost son) and Puffin

Personality: It is often misconsepted that he is stupid and immature, when his mind works a lot like Quibly's. He is often child like and humorous as to get people to like him better but is highly intelligent and can surprise any dragon with how serious he is.

Polar was a 1- year- old IceWing in the Ice Kingdom, when one day he and his friend, Avalanche, overheard their parents talking about an arranged marriage between the two of them. So to escape the marriage they tried to leave but Avalanche was caught and brought back, while Polar was able to escape. He found himself in the Sea of a Thousand Scales and was starting to starve. As he was flying out to find a place to rest and eat he blacked out and started falling. (This is a work in progress, if you have an idea or two I have a page called Polar story ideas that you can put them on.)

Wings of Fire: Side Story #1 "The Lost Dragonet" Chapter 1

"He opened his eyes and felt stinging air hit his face. It rippled through his scales. "A breeze, nice." As his eyes opened more the wind hit them too, and everything was spinning. No, he was spinning. He was falling, and he couldn't control his flight. The tree's beneath him were drawing closer. His instincts kicked and he froze the leaves below him. He watched as the green turned white and decayed. Oh great, I'm going to kill myself faster. He thought. He screamed. He curled into a ball and hit the leaves. Shards of frozen leaf hit his scales. But instead of the sudden stop he expected, he continued falling. He opened his eyes, and he saw a huge open palace with pearl encrusted walkways, and pools of water. Arches made of rocks and jewels towered above dark blue shapes moving on the paths. Wait, the shapes were dragons. Seawings. Hundreds of seawings. All looking at him. And just as quickly as he hit the leaves he hit a pool of water. He felt his breath leave him. The water instantly became colder. He flailed like he was trying to grab his breath back. Unable to breathe the water surrounded him and he fell into black.

He could hear and feel something. Water pouring over rock and splashing on his face. And...pain. A pain in his left shoulder and back. Something warm was pooling in his mouth. Something metallic. Blood. Polar opened his eyes groggily and saw a small waterfall in front of him. Cold wet stone touched his talons. His mind was foggy, his memory was a haze, and he had a small headache in the back of his skull. He opened his mouth and reddish purple blood pooled out. He could barely feel his limbs, and his joints were sore. He lifted himself up, his head spun, his throat was scratchy, his scales burned, his eyes stung, pebbles and ice dug beneath his scales. Then as he stood up he felt the brute force of his headache. The migraine felt like his skull was hit with a SandWing stinger. His knees buckled and he yelled, the sound scratching his throat. He noticed a plate of meat on the floor next to him. "Fish." He gasped, an action that made his throat feel like it was being clawed out. He remembered the shapes. The arches and walkways. He remembered a big pearl encrusted seawing, and next to them, a dragonet. That must be the queen. But who was that dragonet? The Seawings. This can't be their palace. It's above the water. He thought. Although, I have heard of a supposed above water palace. Hidden in the Sea of Scales. He stumbled towards the waterfall and saw something swimming in the pool beneath it. No, not a something. Two somethings. Eels. He had seen eels before, swimming in the water as he flew. His mind wandered as he racked his brain. From what? He couldn't remember why he was flying. A surge of light in front of him distracted his mind. Streaking through the water was something like a miniature lightning bolt. He realized he was standing on the edge of the platform, a ring of water surrounded him. He could hear faint voices. His ears rang. As his hearing returned the voices became louder and louder. They weren't talking, they were yelling and screaming. Polar jumped back as his ears seemed to start ringing again with the echos of dragons yells surrounding him. He covered his ears with his talons. He screamed as much as his voice would. "STOP IT!" Polar sobbed, his voice not even louder than a scavenger squeal. He cowered on the back of the platform, trying to keep the noise as far away as he could. "Stop it, it hurts!" He couldn't hear the claws tapping on the floor, coming closer to him. He heard a voice yell, clearer and less gravely as the others. He couldn't hear what they said but the yelling subsided and Polar uncovered his ears. He noticed that his talons were scratched and bleeding. Or were his ears bleeding? A chain rattled nearby. And as he looked up the waterfall parted, and standing on the other side was a seawing. She was a muscley, dark green dragon with light blue underscales, her eyes were a startling beautiful teal. A shining, sea worn chain hung around her neck, and three keys hung from it. Her wings had splashes of indigo and grey. The markings around her eyes made her look more frightening, while making her look kind. He could feel himself heat up, wether it was not being in cold temperatures or the feeling of seeing the dragon who stood before him he didn't know, but he hoped for his sake it wasn't the latter. The dragon seemed to notice as she reached out a talon, "Don't be shy, I won't hurt you." She said in a voice that felt motherly, almost sad. "Who are you?" Polar said still in his ball, his voice still shaky."I'm Mako, who are you?" She smiled. Polar racked his brain, his mind still foggy. "My name...is Polar."

"Hi Polar, can you please come over here?" As Polar stood up he saw Makos reaction to his injury's. She shuddered slightly. Her face sympathetic. Is she a mother? He thought. As he got up he looked at his wings and saw what Mako was staring at. His wings were bloody and torn, his shoulder was dislocated, and his front right talon was bent oddly. He stumbled towards the pool wincing. His reflection made him gasp. His whole body was more purple blood than pale blue scales. His tail had a huge open wound along the side. He reached out to touch the water and wash himself. "Don't touch it! There are electric eels, you'll die instantly."

"Well, isn't that smart."

Mako giggled, her laugh slightly hollow, "Yeah, I guess so. Can you fly?" Polar opened his wings and inspected them although he knew the answer already. "I doubt it." He closed his wings looking at the big seawing. Why do I trust her. I don't know her at all. Mako glided over to the platform and landed in front of Polar. The little icewing scrambled back as Mako lowered her wings. "Hop on." She said, sounding slightly ergant, like they might be late for something. She could be trying to kill me. He thought. But if she wanted me dead she wouldn't have stopped me from touching the water. He tried his best to not hurt her as he scrabbled up on to her back. Her wings lifting up so his broken talon didn't have to take to much pressure. He hung onto her neck and flattened himself as she leaped over the pool of water, her scales surprisingly cold. Or is that me? She landed and Polar could see what everything looked like. The walls were made of damp stone, and torches lit the hallway, waterfalls with the misshapen forms of dragons on the water filled the tunnel. Curious dragon heads leaned close to their barriers. She started walking towards the light end of the tunnel. "Where are we?" Polar asked.

"We are in the palace dungeon." Mako answered sardonically, like he should know. Which I should've.

"No no, I mean WHERE are we. What palace?"

"Oh, you are in Queen Corals summer palace. It's quite fantastic if you ask me." Mako said realizing what he meant, her face a warm, motherly smile. Mako walked out into the light filled palace and Polar's eyes had to adjust to the new brightness. Mako was right, the palace was beautiful. The archways made the main room seem bigger than the massive place was. Pearls and gold walkways covered the floors below. Multiple levels were built like layers of dragon scales, each crawling with seawings. Mako took off and landed on the top most pavilion. And sitting on the throne in front of them was Queen Coral and next to her the dragonet barely older than he was.

Chapter 2

The dragonet was an almost white light blue, almost like Polar's scales, her eyes were piercing blue, and her scales had splashes of pink like dolphins he saw out on the islands. Quite beautiful Polar thought to himself. She's a seawing, snap out of it! The dragonet had a pearl encrusted harness attached to her that led to Coral, she was a dark royal blue and had the same pearcing eyes as the dragonet. Both were wearing pearls. Mako let down Polar onto the floor. As he got down he bowed his head towards the Queen. His weight shifting onto his broken talon he stumbled and shambled back up. When he looked up the seawing queen didn't look amused. " Why are you here?" She asked. Polar noticed the seawings that were next to and around him and the queen, the ones that looked higher ranked sitting next to her. "Why. Are you here?" She asked again, startling Polar. "I was flying over and I blacked out. Next thing I knew I was falling through tree's and into your palace, it was an accident." The queen looked at him sternly, she didn't trust him. He couldn't blame her, if an icewing crashed through into his palace he wouldn't be very trusting to them either. The seawing looked at Mako, "What did he say his name was?"

"Polar, your majesty."

The queen looked back at Polar. She noticed him looking at the dragonet and drew his attention back to her. "So Polar, why. Are. You. Here." Her face stone still. Polar was trying to keep still but was starting to feel woozy, his voice slurred. He was loosing a lot of blood. "I crashed through on accident."

"Why would a small dragonet like you be in the Sea of a Thousand Scales?"

"I..I...Don't know. I can't remember why I was here." He then added quickly. "Your majesty." The queen continued to ask questions for what felt like hours. "My queen, maybe we should get him treated before more questions are asked. He isn't very well and can barely stand" Mako said, giving a concerned look to Polar. When the queen looked at Mako he caught a glimpse of something in her eye. Sympathy? She had a stone look when she looked at him. He looked at Mako and she looked back at him, her eyes reminded him of someone, but he couldn't remember who. "Mako," the queen said catching the seawings attention. "Bring the icewing to the medical center, then take him back to his cell." As he got on Makos back he felt sullen. The queen thought that he was an icewing spy. Aren't I too young to be a spy? Well that would be the cleverness. Nobody would think that a dragonet would be a spy. As he looked back he saw the dragonet whisper something into a guards ear. And when Mako took of he could have sworn that the pink dragonet was looking right at him.

The medical center was smelly. Extremely smelly. Almost every bed was occupied by seawing soldiers with scars and wounds. The smell was salty and rotten, like a dead seagull. The soldiers all had puss or stab wounds from stingers. The doctors took a while before one came to help Polar. At least the queen wants a fixed icewing prisoner. He thought to himself as the doctor inspected him, lifting his wings and touching the tears. Polar flinched as they poked his wing, his shoulder bent the wing upward and forward like a broken scarecrows pointing finger. The doctor kept asking Mako questions about him, his name, age, and so on. He stopped listening and looked around the room. A seawing sat in the corner looking crestfallen, an older bigger seawing lying on the bed in front of him, unmoving. A nurse comforted him as he stared at the body. "Now this may hurt a bit" the doctor said as they pressed back on his bent wing, Polar's screams filled the room for several seconds, and then the room was silent, all the murmuring soldiers stopped and winced as the doctor popped his wing back in. Polar's eyes filled with tears and Mako put her talon on his. The nurse that was comforting the dragonet came over and started talking to the doctor. Over his sobs he could hear some of the conversation, "Minnow and Bass are dead, nobody is left to care for Seaweed." "We'll have to find him foster parents." "Let him recover, he's still processing this." "Two weeks to recover, we need more space and soon." Polar looked sadly over at the dragonet, he was probably only 3 years old with navy blue scales and patches that looked like algae. Dark ivy green scales rippled across his belly and around his snout like kelp or seaweed plastered to his body. His stormy grey eyes looked up and met Polars, his eyes widened with surprise. Seaweed, guess he's had those stripes all his life. He looked back at Mako who was also looking at the dragonet. When she looked back she put on a feux smile, "Let's get you cleaned up." She said poking Polar in the nose affectionately, her eyes mourning over him. Polar smiled back and he saw a wave of happiness go into her smile. He then cautiously asked, "Mako, were you a mother?" Her eyes went cold, her smile fading and her eyes welling up. She had a sad expression on her face when they first arrived, and Polar think that he knew why. "Yes and a very proud one too." She said, her eyes showing hesitance. She soon came to a decision. "His name was Beluga, and he was a young and very sweet dragonet. Going out onto the battlefield to protect his family and coming back more torn than before. He always tried to keep happy around me, but I could tell that he was loosing himself, each battle a little more of the happy, kind, and determined dragonet I once mothered withered away, and soon nothing was left. He came back one day, wounded and dying. He...never made it, he never had a chance. I still can feel his snout craddled in my talons, telling me I'll be back mom, I always come back. I...love..you." She said her voice cracking, her blue eyes cold and mournful. Polar wrapped his wings around her, giving her a hug as best as he could, not minding the pain in his shoulder. He felt her talons wrap around him, her head leaning on his shoulder. A teardrop fell on his scales.

The doctor had put something into Polar's wing, but he couldn't feel it. No pain, no feeling, just numbness. The doctor had put something pasty and horrible smelling onto his wings and apparently this is what it was supposed to do. The doctor had put a needle into Polars wing and was cutting strings that he used to keep the tears closed. Polar's wings were healed and the doctor had also washed of the blood and had put a needle connected to a tube and pouch of red blood into Polar's arm. He was shaking, it was really warm in the seawings palace and it was too warm in Polar's opinion. His back had a cast of hardened seaweed on it to help it heal, along with his front talon, which the doctor said that the talon would be pointing inward for the rest of his life, so he would have to get used to walking strangely. He had been in the medical center for three days waiting for his wings to heal. He watched as the last of the blood drained into the tube and into his arm. A nurse (who's name he learned was Pelican) took the needle out of his arm as the doctor finished cutting the stitches. Pelican took the cast of of his back and Polar arched it, relieved that he could stretch it out after all those days. Mako had came by with meals for him that were specially requested for from someone named Anemone.

"Who's Anemone?"

At that moment everyone fell silent and stared at Polar like he was growing seaweed out of his ears. Mako broke the silence after a few seconds too long. "Anemone is the dragonet from the other day. The one sitting next to the queen." And then she whispered, "The one you were making googly eyes at." And Polar could feel his face heat up as he tried to hide a smile at the thought of the dragonet sitting in her throne. His face scrunched up in a funny way and Mako giggled. Everyone had went back to what their doing, so they didn't pay attention to what they were laughing about.

"So, the queen wants to see you today."

Polar nearly spit out the salmon he was eating, a million thoughts rushing through his head, why does she want to talk, will Anemone be there, am I going to be hurt? He paused on that second thought for a second before he shook it away. She's a seawing, I don't like seawings. Why don't I like seawings? "Why does the queen think I'm a spy? Why would there be a spy?" Mako gave him a look that was both confused and sympathetic, "Don't you remember the war?" The war? The war! Polar's head felt like he was just stabbed in the skull by 50,000 dragon talons at once, his talons reached up clenching his eyes shut and when he opened them he was sitting on top of Pelican, her snout bloody and torn by a talon mark, her eyes full of fear and one of his talons raised to strike again, covered in blood. He turned his head towards Mako, her face showing her horror. That's right, you're a monster, Polar. You're a monster. The voice in his head wasn't his own. His eyes welled. He stepped towards Mako and looked out the door. As Mako took a cautious step towards him he bolted, leaving a trail of bloody talon prints and tears. The war. They are your enemies. Fight them, they don't care about you. The voice was louder. Stronger. Familiar. He wasn't paying attention as he ran into and pushed aside yelling, surprised dragons. The voice of Mako was far behind him. His head hit the stomach of a dragon who wore something hard and round on their chest, her surprised gasp lost in the sound of wind whipping past his ears. He saw a ledge that led to a drop to the bottom of the palace, hard stone lay below. Jump. You're useless to me anyway. Said the voice. It was muscular and raspy. Polar climbed up on the railing. The picture of his father burned in his mind, from his sharp, icy eyes, to his sharp talons that beat Polar senseless when he did something wrong, to his tongue that ripped Polar's heart to bits whenever he spoke. "Polar!" Polar looked back at Mako dashing closer to the dragonet. No one will care. But Mako wi- No she won't. He turned back ahead of him and with the words of his father rattling in his head he unclenched his talons from the rail, closed his eyes, and fell forward.

Chapter 3

You're useless! Nothing! A disgrace! But I can do better father! Please. Please, don't hurt me anymore! Stop disgracing me and maybe I'll think about it! Those were the last words Gelu had said to Polar. His father. All he ever did was look down on Polar, beat him, and call Polar a disgrace. Now he would get what he wanted, nothing to worry about. No one to disgrace him. This dragonet wouldn't bother him ever again. Wind rushed past his ears as he fell, the floor coming closer. Then he stopped. With a sudden jolt to the side he was launched to a platform landing in the middle of a group of seawings. SEAWINGS! KILL THEM ALL! Shut up! "What is wrong with you! You scared me to death!" Mako was doing a worried scolding in only the way a mother could. Polar curled up in a ball trying to drown out all of the excited chatter of the seawings standing around him, his eyes still dripping tears. You can't even die right. The voice snorted, typical. Who are you? Don't...don't I know you? Soon he was wrapped up in the sobbing dragon that was Mako, her head resting on his he cuddled in close to her, "I'm sorry...He made me." He choked, not caring that she didn't know who that he was. His mother popped into his head like a door swinging open after being unlocked. Nix. Her pale purple scales shining as she looked down lovingly at him with her beautiful smile, her eyes like diamonds. The only thing that stopped Gelu from hurting him, one of the only dragons to love him, and he ran away from her. He looked up at Mako and looked behind her, his eyes widened with anxiety, fear, and worry, as there stood Queen Coral and next to her sat Princess Anemone. Corals pearls were astray as she was staring at him with a steel stare. "You will meet with me on the council level in 5 minutes." She said her voice unamused. Her

Her stare seemed to come from the back of her skull as she turned away. Polar looked at the dragonet and locked eyes with her. His mind was rushing through all the right things but asking the wrong questions, and as princess Anemone's eyes looked and searched his Polar felt that she might have the same thing going on. Mako was looking all over Polar panting and scolding him. "You can't do that to me! Do you have any idea what that does to someone!" Polar looked at her and couldn't speak, watching as her face was going through anger, fear, sadness, and joy all at once. "Why would you do that?!" She practically yelled at him. Useless. Disgrace. Disgusting. "My..my father ha..hates me." Polar realized that he was crying now too. "He never liked me. W..why give him something he doesn't want? R.. right?" Polar said with a sad smile. Mako's face was full of horror as she heard Polar tell her these sentences. "Don't worry about him. H..he can't hurt you now. I'll protect you." Mako held his head close to her chest as they waited to stop crying. "We should go meet with the queen now."

"Yeah"

"Never do that again. Ok?"

"Ok" Polar hesitated and then climbed up awkwardly onto Mako's back. He just realized that the crowd had departed with the queen, leaving Mako and him alone as they flew to the council level. On the level were multiple pools of water placed in a circle like shape around a table laden with a bunch of pots, plates, and platters full of food. Each pool was labeled for different positions. When Mako landed Polar saw Queen Coral and the Princess sitting next to eachother in their respective spots and he flattened himself when the queen looked at him. He was scared. And hungry. His stomach growled as he shambled off of Mako's back and he thought he heard her muffle some of her laughter. He walked over and saw how empty the platform seemed with just the four of them. When he came to the pools he hesitated and looked at the queen and princess. The princess was watching him curiously, tracing his scars with her eyes. "Sit across from me icewing." Queen Coral said, and Polar could've sworn she snarled on the word icewing. The water was warm, but not to warm as Polar dipped a claw in, then, slowly, stepping into the pool. "Eat." Polar perked his head up and looked at the queen. "What?"

"Eat. Whatever is on the table." The queen was looking at Polar intently, as if she was watching for something wrong. Polar looked at some of the salmon and could feel his stomach growl ferociously. He slowly dragged the plate towards himself and took a bit of salmon. Then, after looking at the queen a bit longer his hunger overtook his manners, he wolfed the whole salmon down. And began feasting feariously on the fish and squid before him. When he finally stopped you could say he ate a whole shark with how much he ate. The look on queen Corals face was surprised and stern at the same time. Then Polar burped and Anemone burst into laughter.
