Description

Fairly unremarkable. I am not worth much, but my intelligence may be of utility.

— Octal

Octal is a monochrome LightWing, with a mostly white body with light gray spots. His horns are of an average length and face each other. He has brighter mirror scales than most other LightWings. He is slightly taller than other 9-year-olds, but if you bring this up, he might give you a lecture on statistics, probably mentioning the 53rd percentile at least once, and definitely touching on normal distributions.

Personality

He will never stop talking when you get him started. It gets on my nerves after about a minute; it's background noise anyway.

Octal is talkative and brutally honest. He has an interest in many scientific fields, especially light and optics. Some of his most notable research involves using light to start fires and project images.

Despite his attempts to be kind, he can sometimes sound rude or removed from a situation. He is also quite resentful of mind-readers, as he considers it a breach of privacy and moral codes (not to mention his few near-death experiences involving mind-reading).

Mirror Scales

Like most LightWings, he has mirror scales. However, his are more reflective than average.

Deep Sight

He can see things through multiple layers, like animus enchantments and dual realities. Deep sight also allows him to "zoom in" and focus on objects.

General Facts

His mind is quite unusual—it runs quite like a multithreaded program, with many threads processing things quickly and waiting for the next. This makes his mind difficult to process for mind-readers. It also leads to mental damage in the presence of mind-control, animus spells affecting his mind, mind-reading, etc.; as anything in his head is bound to break something.
His eyes can also "flash" or change color depending on how damaged his mind is, which doesn't really help.
He's friends with a scavenger named Nameless (she calls herself that)—they both fluently speak the dragon and human languages.

History

School/Dragonethood

He enjoyed school, and got his work done quickly, but also found it somewhat unhelpful. He actually scrapped together his first iterations of TWO-MIC during this time, which is nice.
What's less nice is his other inventions that occasionally fatally irradiated his classmates.

5–7 DY

He eventually graduated, retiring to a claustrophobic lab under the sand. He's fine with his surroundings, though others aren't. There are also cleanrooms and whatnot.

8 DY

While running a census, he met Annulet. After an extremely awkward conversation, they slowly became friends, forming the Monochrome Duo.

Scientific Output

Projection - Using a red, green, and blue color reference, he can project images and sometimes videos.
On the Mathematics of Optic Conics - Due to a recall for cringe, he created a superior publication.
Lasers - He built a small rudimentary laser for communicating with faraway individuals and temporarily inconveniencing his enemies' eyes.
Two-Way Open Mental Communications Interface (TWO-MIC) - This is one of his most important devices. Using it allows him to mentally communicate with any dragon or human. While using TWO-MIC, the recipient often feels something like a needle poking their mind, and thoughts must be channeled directly in order to prevent accidental mind-reading.

Criminal Record

He has only committed one crime—running a nuclear reactor without a license. (To be fair, he was a three-year-old dragonet.)
