Noosphere

Middling in size, he’s perhaps a bit shorter and stockier than most experiments. His limbs and neck are short, contrasting his lengthy and whip-like tail. Instead of a barb, the tail ends in a small yet heavy bud of bone, spiked, a convincing flail if worst comes to worst. Subject possesses very dense bones, his low-profile makes him hard to move if he does not want to be moved. His posture calls to mind some form of ancient ankylosaur.

Subject’s wings developed to resemble those of a scarab, with amber-coloured hind wings proportionally much too small for his body. Each elytron is a brilliant red, black-speckled, almost like a ladybug. At rest, they are folded in a large, almost turtle-like carapace against his back. He is not capable of prolonged flight. They're more useful as a mood-indicator, flapping when he feels content and shaking subtly when he feels peeved.

Individual scutes are circular and overlapping, almost like scale-mail, and have an iridescence to them. They are massive plates of chitin, pliable and well-protective. His complexion is a dark bluish, far from pitch-black - his hide catching even the slightest bit of light and changing it to chromatic sky-blues and greens. These dark scutes end just after his forelimbs and near the tip of his tail, replaced by softer, lighter scales.

Subject has a sizable mane of large, straight, red-orange feathers. He is often humorously described as having gotten a flower stuck around his head. He has some control over them, usually choosing to drape them over his head like a cowl made of rose petals.

His facial features are sharp and almost alien, with two large compound eyes of a bright blue hue. Three eyes of a more basic quality are embedded in his forehead and each brow. His horns are sixfold in number, small, thin plates, arranged laterally along his skull in a perfect array. They are usually obscured by his mane. His teeth are conical, piscivorous in intent, while his tongue is not unlike a snake’s, often flicking through them when he’s at rest.

Behavior: Noosphere demonstrates a very literal-minded nature in casual conversation, misinterpreting metaphors and figurative language. It’s more likely this is simply his sense of humour rather than his genuinely not understanding them. Subject lends heavy consideration to others’ actions and agency, and avoids infringing on them. He is generous with compliments and words of encouragement, with his always having genuine quality to them.

His resting outward emotion seems to be of a quiet, reserved joyousness. He exhibits a slow, relaxed attitude as he buzzes around his day-to-day. There is a serene quality to the way he takes time to examine every bit of nature he can get his paws on.

Subject will initiate conversations, if he feels it’s good for the health of his target. His inflection, mannerisms seem a bit stoic, but overall he has a good grasp on talking to others, and a strong understanding of what they are looking for in the interaction.

With a precise sense of boundaries, subject knows exactly when someone needs him to speak, and when his voice could exacerbate the situation. He is very aware of and careful with his words, needle-sharp in his ability to navigate socialization. Noosphere is highly sensitive to social cues, hidden context and purpose, and omission. His ability to predict the consequences of the things he says is almost precognitive, his mind drawing up branching maps of interactions and pathing a way through them with a grace uncanny.

Subject's greatest virtue lies in his observational abilities, specifically in regards to health. His bug-eyes are often described as "scanning", seeing past others into the very base elements that comprise them. His unrivaled comprehension of dragon anatomy allows him to immediately tell if something is not working as intended, if something is something and in need of mending. Subject learns best visually. While not in possession of a photographic memory, they can retain information quite admirably.

Subject is fairly well-versed on social interactions, befitting his role. He is trained to be empathic, with a rehearsed ability to understand and rationalize the feelings of others. He has shown himself to be a decent subject to vent to, determined to offer constructive advice or support in response.

When it comes to casual conversation however, he is far from approachable. Subject is more likely to attempt to end the conversation as quickly as possible than to indulge in chit-chat. His behaviour is different still in group conversations, with him taking on a more passive-reactive role. His voice does not carry far, and he recognizes this.

Subject has seemingly in-built, intimate knowledge of both dragon cognition and physiology. Though not to the same degree, his mind lends itself to the understanding of technology and mechanics, to the working of things.

His own psyche is organized and filed, with the ability to split his concentration and separate himself from cluttered impulses. Designed as an effective multi-tasker who is diligent in ensuring the ability of other subjects, the more strategically-minded members of the project tend to be fond of Noosphere.

He himself is no master tactician or paragon of logic, displaying a lack of skill for long-term planning. Rather, he considers himself a philosopher, an amateur one he is not ashamed to admit.

Most of his musing thoughts are on dragonkind as a whole, he views the whole world as his “hive”, an emergent phenomenon that is just as alive as an individual dragon. Noosphere has spent many hours pondering about how the project - which he sees in similar light - is going to help dragonkind, how their gifts are going to be applied to society at large. Despite him being kind to those around him, close conversation reveals that he loves dragonkind and its virtues, its progression, far more than he loves individual dragons. Despising of chaos, of disarray, his ultimate goal is to ensure that every single little thing is working properly, as a beautiful orchestra of patterned layers and ironed sub-structures that lends itself to greater things. He weeps at inefficiencies, clogs in the arteries of grandiose systems. He has an indescribable love for nature, for life, comprised of life, ad infinitum, and sees social phenomena as another layer of the living world.

Noosphere is introverted, though his purpose compels him to engage in social situations more than he'd like to. He feels incredibly exhausted after long days of conversations, and wishes he could be left alone with his thoughts for longer. His soul is an internally curious and thoughtful one, which delights in solitude.

When making suggestions to other subjects, Noosphere on occasion finds himself at a crossroads - whether to suggest what is healthy and positive for them, or for the project as a whole. Noosphere always picks the former, feeling a bit of shame for even entertaining such an idea, for thinking of breaking the sacred, unspoken promise between doctor and patient. But some instinctual, basal level of his psyche feels that this is a foolish, inefficient, treasonous decision.

Noosphere has little to no material desires of his own, at least any he allows to interfere with the daily workings of his mind. He believes that the others cannot afford for him to be selfish. Subject enjoys singing however, as his only true outlet. His songs are usually wordless, haunting melodies, with incomprehensible emotions just below the surface.

Mental gene-engineering has programmed him to be unnaturally brave, failing to show a fear response to most known stimuli. His mind remains hyper-tranquil and stoic, even at the grimmest of times, analyzing the situation and then doing his best to apply his skillset to the problem. Subject has repeatedly expressed that they are not afraid of the idea of dying. He reasons that, if he dies accomplishing something important and his body is recovered for further, useful research, it’s an acceptable loss. He considers himself the most disposable subject, one who only exists to ensure the others are performing up to specifications.

Noosphere is far from an unassailable psyche, in spite of his fearlessness. His own periods of mental weariness and emotional vulnerability simply prompt him to section off these parts of his mind and work on it when he's by his lonesome. He is unfortunately very good at this, hiding at times when he himself requires some emotional support. At times, he'll feel a sort of morose emptiness, taken by the idea that he lacks an identity beyond his gene-purpose.

When his mind is stressed and exhausted and wandering, an uncommon condition for him to be in, he nurtures strange feelings about his role in it all. He immerses himself in the project as a whole, views others as components of social structures rather than as individuals, and takes to his mechanical purpose with passion and grit, all to prevent himself from thinking about himself.

History: Intended as a factor maintaining health and optimal performance amongst subjects, Noosphere was devised as a liaison between them and medical personnel. He would be encoded with instincts, driving him to view the project as an emergent entity to whom he is a caretaker, ensuring the functionality and health of individual components such that the whole is not compromised.

He draws inspiration from the constructive nature of the living world, its ability to build wonders with time and tenacity. From its immensity, its chaotic tranquility, beyond the ability of any individual to disturb.

Not at all a difficult subject to engineer, most of Noosphere’s iterations and attempts were successful in their own right, his genetic configuration easily fitting together like the pieces of a puzzle. His creators had overestimated the time, talent and resources needed to breath life into him, and so could afford to really tailor and perfect him and make him startlingly close to initial specifications.

Undergoing medical and interpersonal training, conditioning from a very young age, in tandem with his natural affinity for emotional intelligence, resulted in social acumen, a very "doctorly" air, as intended. He was not particularly resistant to any of this, following along without issue.

There were attempts to see if he could serve an interrogating role, but those failed due to a lack of manipulative instinct on his part. No matter what, Noosphere failed to develop any ability to get someone to act against their wishes, and does not wish to do harm.

Though he was very successful when it came to fulfilling his supportive niche, scientists and sponsors developed concerns about his own mental health and his internal, stoic nature. When he was aged 10, there was insistence that he go about developing his own interests rather than simply continuing to expand on his knowledge. Noosphere agrees to some extent, but cannot help but feel such would compromise the core objective of his creation. He did develop his interest in singing shortly after, however.

Observers of his most private moments have taken note of the clash between the individual and the component of a whole, of the chaos inherent to his creation. Personality pitted against eusocial instincts and drive, resultant of overlooked issues with his very essence and concept that have come to trouble him later in life.

Misc. Information:

  • he/they
  • weird singer, a mind that lends itself well to understanding notes and chords but the things he sings seem really out there and bizarre
  • somewhat better than average of hearing - his face flower acts as a primitive acoustic mirror.

main capabilities lie in his vision, due to having five unusual eyes. He sees colour in an entirely different way, and his perspective of the world is very alien. He has telescopic vision, and can focus in on very distant objects in a magnified scale. For whatever reason, he has to loudly say "enhance" as a "switch" for this ability. His eyes also have the ability to interpret a wider range of the electromagnetic spectrum, which he can use to achieve a sort of x-ray vision.

  • functional in a wide temperature range, and very resistant to extreme radiological conditions.

excellent time management

  • fish-based diet
  • lethality 2/10, his tail-club is at best an incapacitating force against other subjects. He is fairly durable, due to his armoured scales and dense musculature. In sparring sessions he never wins, but it takes him a really long time to lose. He'll usually try to turn it into a learning experience, an opportunity for personal growth for his opponent.

Why do you want to join Project Divinity?: i really enjoy the blending of mythology and science in the project, and i think it makes for an interesting world. i like how the project is linked to other worldbuilding projects, and forms a connected universe, i feel the continuity will lend itself well to interesting prompts and situations. I havent done any rps in a while and would like to, and i think having a bunch of developed characters existing in the same world will lend itself well to focused, driven rps.

What makes your subject unique?: i wanted to make a subject whose purpose is solely benevolent, and has very little ability to actively hurt others, the “healer” archetype. There are other social characters, but i thought there was a niche open for someone not necessarily designed to be charismatic nor persuasive nor a high-concept leader in any way, but instead personally supportive, ensuring each individual component of the project is working as well as it can. I feel another unique aspect of noo is having a social purpose but not necessarily being a outgoing person

Are you ready to sign your soul to your new lord and savior Adroit?: yep, yep, sounds like a good deal
