Coral wraps herself around her daughter's egg. It was due to hatch soon, and she was already expecting another clutch. Hopefully, she will have two daughters by next year, if not more.

Gill will be so happy to finally have a daughter.

She was determined not to let this egg out of her sight. Yes, it meant he was in charge of the war while she was stuck in the hatchery, but they would finally have an heir.

The hatchery was warm, with bubbles flowing out of the corners, from small holes in the walls. The statue of her late daughter, Orca, was sitting in the room. Guarding over the eggs, her gaze fixed fiercely on the door.

Ready to attack any harm that comes in. That was how she was when she was alive.

Coral misses her daughter very much, but couldn't let it get in the way of her queenly duties. Sometimes she just wished she could step down and let someone else be Queen for a while. Then she wouldn't have to worry about everything.

Then my eggs wouldn't be under threat. Then Orca would still be alive.

Those thoughts were what often plagued her when she was alone. How would things have been played out differently if she wasn't born a princess, destined to be a Queen?

It probably would have turned out a lot different than it is now. Maybe then she would have had a complete family, and not be neglecting her sons.

Yes, she knew it was wrong, but she didn't care. Her mind didn't care. All that mattered was for her to have a living heir, and to never let her go. To have a daughter to carry on the royal SeaWing bloodline.

Don't forget about your missing egg. It might still be alive somewhere. The dragonet might be searching for you.

That was true, a dragonet of hers might be wandering around somewhere looking for her. Only if Webs hadn't stolen it.

Her tail curls tighter around her egg. A way of showing protection. This could be her only heir. The future Queen someday.

Hopefully not for a long time.

Coral didn't want to have their family destroyed as soon as possible. She wanted to spend some time with her daughter. Not afraid that she might kill her.

Just then a SeaWing runs in. His gills flaring, wounds scattered all over his body. Blood was flowing down his sides as he looked at her. This guard had just returned from a battle.

Something happened to Gill!

She tried to stop that irrational thought as she stared at the SeaWing. Yet she couldn't shake the feeling that it was right. Something bad had happened to him.

"What happened?" She roars in worry at the SeaWing warrior. It had come out louder than she intended, but she couldn’t bring herself to regret it. She just had to know Gill was okay.

He has to be okay. He has to raise our daughter with me. He can't leave me yet.

The SeaWing guard looks taken aback by her tone. Yes, it was a little harsh, but not enough to look terrified of her. She feels a tinge of regret now. "I'm sorry for snapping." She whispers to the guard. His name was Wave, one of the beginners of War.

He was incredibly skilled, but now he just looked frightened. What could have happened to make him so nervous? He starts to choke out a sentence, his words broken up and far apart like he was trying to find the right way to word it. "Well, your husband, King Gill…"

He stops at the name of her husband. This sent her into a series of hysterics. I worries about her husband. She didn't know what she was going to do if he been captured.

I told you something bad was going to happen to him.

Nothing bad could happen to him. He had promised her that everything would be fine. That she could stay in the hatchery taking care of their egg. That he would fine run the war on his own. That she didn't ever have to worry about something bad happening to him.

She trusted him, and now he could be gone from her life. Never to be seen again. "What happened to him!?" She screams, panicked. Tears were flowing freely down her face now. Deeming the worst things that could have happened to her love.

Gill, what will I do without you?

The poor guard looks at her tears brimming in his eyes. He looked just as heartbroken as her. That's when she knew without a doubt that he is gone, forever. Yet, she still waits for Wave to say it. He starts to speak the worst words possible. "King Gill, he was taken by the SkyWings."

No!

Coral feels her legs shake. If she wasn't already sitting down she might have fallen out of grief. "No," she whispers under her breath. "He can't be gone, can he?" She looks up at Wave to see if he was just joking with her.

Wave sadly shakes his head. He looks at her with sadness in his eyes. "No, I'm afraid. It is not a dream. He's gone." He lowers his head in sadness, tears streaming gently down his cheeks. "All the troops have been called back from the battle."

Coral singles him to leave before bursting out in tears. Why did this happen to her of all dragons? Did the world hate her or something?

I should have never let him run the kingdom. If I refused he would still be here with me.

She pulls the egg closer to her. The next clutch would be her last clutch ever. She whispers to the warm egg in her talons. "I will never let anyone hurt you, ever."

The End
