SCHOOL GOT IN THE WAY BUT HERE IS WHAT I GOT SO FAR FOR LE NEEDLEWINGS!
NeedleWings are rather unique, as they are the only tribe with three legs. Archeologists have found that Needlewings first set of arms evolved from a front pair of wings. In fact, this tribe is almost defined by its variety. They also have one of the shortest necks of any tribe, their wings are surprisingly maneuverable, and their nasal b. Bone has grown
outwards in a flat and hollow shape, similarly to a mosquito's proboscis.
They are the only type of dragon with naturally forming hair-like structures. These hairs are extremely sensitive to vibrations in the air, similarly to a tarantula. They are most common between scales on the back, through a genetic mutation may lead to “fluffborns”. Dragons with an abundance of hair on their necks and backs. These are common, and
almost always occur in males and royals. Their horns are similar to goats with the most common shape being a ram curl.
As for coloration, most needlewings and brown or black. Some have white stripes on their legs and body, though in some cases they may not be presented. The local belief within the empire posits that this is a result of being born during a new moon, though this is unfounded. Similarly though most tail abdomens are almost clear, in some cases the outer shell of blood sack makes blood seem blue which is associated with blue moons.
The only other know physical moon is the crescent moon, as their claws are said to be unnaturally long.
Hybrids are uncommon but not super rare due to them being on the other side of the continent and due to their self brought on isolation. For Pantalan hybrids, occasionally a leafwing will be ‘assimilated’ into the tribe. Though Hive and Silkwings can only be brought in if they are mates with a Needlewing already.
Most prominently, their stinger-like proboscis which they use to stab into creatures and to remove their blood. This can be dangerous, as they are capable of draining a creature completely, but this is made even worse due to their diet toxicity. Similarly to the leafwing’s poison dart frog, needlewings diet which consists of several toxic plants and
arthropods which are then secreted at the tip of their proboscis. Males, however do not have hollow proboscis, drinking blood through their mouth instead, and instead secreting their poisons through a cancellous bone in their tail.
Unlike Nightwings, Needlewings are not affected by the number or phase of the moon in any scientific ways. Insted, they seem to be affected by particles within the air changing the color of celestial bodies. Most will move eggs out for such events, unless it is a blood moon (another name for a lunar eclipse) as this will result in a blood born.
Note: Trying to get eggs to hatch for moons is hard. Sure their moon and blood science are great, they can predict when it will happen, but like all animals, they can and will be born early or late.
Great Tree War Relations
During the Great Tree War, they were split on the fight. Many thought they should join the hivewings and silkwings since they had the superior force. But without the forest, they would have less prey so the leafwings couldn’t be allowed to perish. They tried to abstain, but in the end, they were dragged in after a battle ended in Letting town being destroyed, an area renowned for its medical prowess. They decided after this that it was their duty to make sure the rules of engagement were not broken and that no more civilians died. That both tribes would survive the war. At the start of the war this worked out rather well, what's the needlewings scrounging the battlefields for blood and counting the deaths on both sides. They thought they were succeeding, but then the trees started to burn, and they realised Queen Wasp’s true intentions. But it was too late. They tried to protect the remaining leafwings, but it was useless. In the end, only about 30 leafwings where saved by the needlewings, several died due to stress and other factors. Needlewings felt that someone would deliver them the retribution that they deserved for their failure to protect all the tribes. So they let themselves disappear, they hid and hoped they would never be found.
Needlewings are considered just as fictional as a leafwings by most dragons of the hives. Due to their esoteric nature and their relaxed opinion about blood, most believe that these dragons are nothing more than a fear mongering tactic of Queen Wasp. This is not refuted by the needlewings, as they are nearly
self-supporting and try to avoid trade on principle. If a Hivewing whee to make it into their kingdom, it's unlikely that they would be served. Young needlewings have been known to rob the bloodworm, jewel, and mantis hive, during droughts and such. In an attempt to combat this neglect, these thieves have taken to leaving blood at the scene, for various reasons. Some say it is to pay the owners, as their culture views both revenge and avoiding revenge as equally important. Some say that for the same reason, they leave it to scare them as retribution for the war or even to prove they exist. Even then, the other hives only believe Mantis when she reports them which she rarely does to uphold her scientific nature.
Hewo! You had the original idea of NeedleWings right? If not and I've messaged the wrong person, sorry XD
Anyways, the thread sadly filled up and I was wondering if there is going to be another thread put up so we can continue to develop the idea?
Also I really want to make a page for a NeedleWing called Malaria, would I be allowed? I'll put it under the tribless dragon category of course, I just want to know if you'd be okay with me doing this c:
