Lady Silkmoth is a scavenger who is very famous among scavengers for her distribution of high-quality silk and colourful dyes, yet less famous among dragons. She, along with her husband, Lord Treehopper, rules over Silkworm City, a large city by Sanctuary with a status similar to that of the Indestructible City's, and they have been doing so for 38~ years. She is also the leader of the Silkworm Council, a council compromised of major scavenger settlements that wish to ally scavengers and dragons, after roughly 5,000 seasons of violence.
Appearance[]
Silkworm is considered beautiful among scavengers. She has darkish skin, as well as ebony brown hair and matching eyes. Although she is rather modest, she is often seen wearing clean, golden bracelets on her forearms, as well as short leather gloves, a sign of wealth in Silkworm.
She dons a flexible dress made out of red silk, with white sheep wool being being sewed to make various patterns. These patterns are two straight lines, one above her belt and one at the end, and a single wavy line, right above the lower straight line. However, there is also a silhouette of a dragon, seemingly an IceWing, on her dress and on her cape, which is a common figure on most Silkworm City officials. At the tips of her dress and cape, are multiple tiny fringes that are coloured white, pale orange, and baby blue. They are all connected by string. Her cape is held onto her dress by tiny, golden balls. Her waist area is also decorated by a string where pale seashells, dried leaves, and colourful feathers.
She has leather boots with decorative, looped string, a leather belt around her waist, and two large, leather bags opened and closed with iron snap fasteners. Her leather accessories are all dyed with oak galls and other dark materials to create the darkest colour that scavengers could possibly hold. Even the handle of her iron dagger, which is always by her side on her belt, is dyed with this.
She does not have any scars or injuries on her body.
Personality[]
Lady Silkmoth, being raised originally in a group of nomadic scavengers, is very modest, generous, and knows how scavengers with lesser lives live. However, she is also curious, and is shown to particularly love insects, especially moths, which is ironic considering her name. This curiosity would later turn into her greatest success, as she was able to discover that the silkworms around one of her temporary settlements could produce silk.
History[]
Silkmoth was born in a small nomadic tribe, to Caterpillar and Crocus, her father and mother respectively. This specific tribe was already skilled in gardening, and so Silkmoth got the hang of it early on. However, during her gardening, she noticed several bugs that wandered around her family's plot. Her tribe discouraged her from touching or examining them, as they feared said bugs, stereotyping them to be pests of agriculture. However, Moth still continued to study them, hiding away at night instead.
One day, after her tribe had just moved through the Claws of Clouds Mountains with the help of a less high-altitude path, with the scope of exploring new lands, meeting new tribes and cultivating new plants, she discovered multiple species of moths, however, one stood out. It seemed to produce more silk than the rest of them, and after she messed around with said silk, discovered that it could be useful in the future. She tried to tell her mother, but she simply slapped Silkmoth and gave her a lecture on how all bugs are dangerous and that they could eat you. Moth knew that all of these were lies, as she was at an age where she was much more conscious.
However, she was rather rebellious at that time, and got too cocky, believing that bugs don't wish any harm at all. In her adulthood, she was stung by multiple bees due to this belief, and staggered to a nearby dragon city she saw, hoping that they won't eat her. Luckily for Silkmoth, this city was Sanctuary, and they had just finished their scavenger residences. A kind, white, glimmering dragon settled her in, however she thought the dragon was undead because of the cold radiating from him and his bone-like protrusions. Silkmoth didn't allow the care takers to clean her new home of bugs, and was often seen instead observing them, a behaviour which the dragons noted.
One day, Silkworm escaped and the dragons panicked, fearing that she will get eaten. Fortunately, she reappeared a few hours later, and to their surprise, had brought moth larvae, mulberry leaves, and various seeds. The Sanctuary care takers left her in a garden, and to their surprise once again, she was documented to be a skilled gardener, and that she had been extracting silk from said larvae, before beginning to make thread. They were very surprised yet curios, and decided to study her ways of taking care of the larvae, which they now named silkworms, and use their studies to try and help them.
After many months, dragons who specilized in making thread teamed up with her to make a new material called silk, which they suspected could be made into many different cosmetic materials. And after this new material started to become popular, Silkworm's work was starting to be recognised as a 'brand', being called 'Silkworm's silk', or 'Sanctuary silk'.
Many years later, a portion of the growing population of scavengers at Sanctuary wanted to have their own village without being controlled by dragons. After they spoke to the mayor through a dragon-scavenger translator, he agreed for them to have their own village. Initially, the scavengers were unsure of who to pick as their leader, and so they took turns every three months to see how they would lead the newly-formed settlement, all while dragons still observed them. In the end, Silkworm was chosen for her generosity, modesty and willingness to progress the scavenger's development.
Her life continued peacefully. The settlement, originally called Sanctuary's Scavenger Den, had coined their own, scavenger-chosen name: Silkworm City. The city was known for their delicious fruits and veggies, as well as their production of high-quality silk. Silkworm had earned the title of Lady, and married a man who would soon become Lord Treehopper. Their little city would soon compete for the Indestructible City in terms of power and technology, and would form an alliance called the Silkworm Council, where major cities in the alliance would make plans for allying with dragonkind themselves.
Life will be good. It will flourish.
