characters this chapter : 078, Antelope
THIS IS IN A MAJOR REWRITE PHASE! I WILL SOON DELETE ALL OF THIS AND REWRITE IT!
The glass chamber was never as lively as today. Shifting glances of eyes varying in colors, orange, blue, black, green and others. Different wings, scales, horns cluttered together on one single body hidden inside a small tan egg. The incubator held it within its warm clutches as it begun to shake. Small, sudden cracks broke out on the egg. All of the dragons watching from the outside held their breaths. Varied whispers fell out of open jaws. “Is it ready?” “Should we tell the organizer?” “SHH!” “I think I see a talon!” The voice came from a lithe, warm honey colored dragon. As some of the eyes turned towards her, she shifted her brass glasses that held to her face, looking down.
Another crack filled the cluttered air, and everyone turned their head back to the chamber, and went silent again. Talons grasped the other, tails whisked back and forth as everyone waited. The whispers came back, as their impatience struck after a few minutes. “Does it usually take this long?” “Is there something wrong with its shell?” The honey colored dragon coughed, picking at her talons as she looked at the ground. “I-Im pretty sure thats just the combination of the tribes egg textures. Im sure they’ll be fine.” Her voice got quiter as she spoke. After a few seconds, someone replied with a silent “ah”. The egg continued to shake, its tan shell hurled back and forth in the incubator. “Someone call Sir Pyro!” A seawing spoke. Antelope began to fall more and more anxious as time went on without another crack appearing on her egg. “Should somebody…help it?” She spoke in a hurried voice. The seawing that spoke earlier ran out of the room, assumably getting the leader. Antelope watched them leave, and quickly turned back around.
A few seconds passed, and another crack appeared on the egg. “Oh!” Antelope let out a relieved gasp, as did a few others. A small chirp sounded from the glass chamber, muffled by the walls that enclosed it. More small shutters came from the egg as it broke out of its enclosure. A small white and yellow talon struck a piece of the hard shell, and shrank back in surprise from the loud noise. “Rrrgle?” A small voice came from the incubator. Antelope struggled to find her keys, and rushed to get inside the chamber, but was met with a huge burning mess of scales. She looked up to find Pyro, the leader of the orginization. She muttered an apology before she rushed off inside the chamber, his sickly warm eyes followed her. The dragonet slowly peaked out of his shell, with a scared expression on his small, white and yellow face. His blue eyes slowly gazed arround the room, until he was met with an adorring gaze. “Aaamrr le!!” He gurgled at her, as he leaped out of his egg, falling headfirst into the glass walls, and slid onto the blanket coating the bottom of the incubator. Antelope gasped, and rushed to open the door of the warm enclosure. She hesitated, before reaching her talons out to the small dragonet. She wrapped her talons carefully around his soft, white scales and brought him into a hug. A smile broke out on her face. I hope I can keep you safe, little one.
Chapter 1[]
characters this chapter: 078, Pyro, The small, distinct clatter of talons woke 078 up from his dreamless and short slumber. He blinked away the clear fog in their eyes that grew in his sleep. They grogily rose to his feet, stretching his talons and short, stout wingbuds. He looked around the room they occupied, it was the most detailed out of the whole facility, besides the leaders. Patterned, white tile walls with a sandpaper-like texture coated the room. The floor was made out of stone, with potholes scattered across itself. 078 had a story for each of them, he tends to remember the small details in their life. The first one to the right of them was when he discovered his frostbreath, an accident that caused them to loose feeling in one of his talons, though regained it after a few months of feeling. Thin tapestries were hung across the wall, depicting Sir Pyro’s upbringing and founding of the orginization.
HYBRID, the orginization, is for the research of hybrids and their abilities. 078 is a side project kept secret from the rest of the queens, a project for pure desire. A tool for personal gain, you could say. Although 078 never thought he was a tool, nobody else believed him.
Accept their mother. Antelope, a cheerful HiveWing that worked for the orginization. 078’s father ,077, fell in love with her. Although it ended quite…Roughly…Antelope had already laid her egg. 078’s father had already passed from a mission he was sent on, although from the short stories 078 heard from their mom, he was thankful hes gone.
The other parts of the room held scratch marks, melted metal and other blemishes caused by 078, although it wasnt really his fault. Its Pyro’s fault. They thought. I never wanted to be here in the first place, why should I have to listen to his stupid, pointless rules?
The clicking of talons came closer and closer to the thick metal door. 078 slid on the cuff on the right side of his nest, although it wasn’t really a nest anymore, just a pile of sheep furs. As they adjusted the cold metal band around his wrist, 3 dragons burst through the doors. 078 looked up as the front dragon of the group walked up to him, a heavy-set pale pink SeaWing with bluer wings.
078 sighed, and held their talons up. The SeaWing pulled the other half of the cuff out of bag around their neck, and attached it to the other one that hung on the dragonets wrist with a click.
The two other dragons, one NightWing and the other a SkyWing, trotted towards them. The green NightWing reached for the metal bars linking the cuffs, as the smaller, pale yellow SkyWing pulled a muzzle cuff out of the same bag on the pink SeaWing, and clicked it around 078’s muzzle. He puffed cold air out of his nostrils with a smirk , she grumbled and yanked on the wrist cuffs. “Sir Pyro needs to meet with you.” The SkyWing muttered as she lead them into the hallway. The hallway is as boring as a hallway could be. Large, clay walls and iron forged windows were sparse, and fogged up from the humidity. The castle-like building was kept on the beach, so small pool of water collected everywhere. In one of the rooms, a strange looking SandWing was lifting its tail up and down as they paced the room. A metal engraved sign on the window read,
Project 049 RainWing - SandWing
Requested by her majesty, Queen Ibex for personal use.
Queen Ibex? Isn’t that the SandWing queen? 078 thought. The SkyWing tugged on his arms, “Who told you to stop? Keep moving!” She barked at their face as 078 shrunk back. He hadn’t realized they’d stopped and by now, 049 had huddled back into a corner of their room, shivering.
078 kept his head down for the rest of the way, watching the SkyWing’s shriveled tail drag on the stone floor. They had an urge to bat at it, like a kitten playing with its mother but held back. What in the three moons am I thinking? I have other things to think about, like what Pyro has planned for me, or what mother is doing, or if that other hybrids okay… He went on a list through their head about things to distract him from their childish thoughts, and before they knew it, they’d arrived at head office.
Head office is the room that the higher ups use, specifically Sir Pyro. The walls abruptly ended and from a bronze pole hung silk weavings, depicting major events in Pyrrhia and Pantalan history. From the Scorching and Darkstalker’s life to The SandWing war and the Othermind. Pyro had told 078 these came from the famous founder of the modern Pantala, President Luna. If it was true, and it actually came from her, it would be quite funny to see her reaction to where they reside today.
078 was shoved into the stone clearing that towered over the beach with open windows, and was faced with a blazing hot dragon. AKA the leader of HYBRID. AKA the flamescale thats scared of his own tail. AKA Sir Pyro. AKA Pyro. The three guard ducked unter the tapestries and left the way they came, and 078 sat down and curled his tail around their front talons. Pyro was sat on top of his throne with an arched neck. 078 took this as his daily pretending-to-be-king-roleplay. Pyro and 078 were both silent, the sound of seagull screeches filling the air.
Pyro suddenly spoke. “Today is a very special day to this organization.” He spoke slow, and rough. Smoke circled his body, but was blown away by the wind. The scent of seawater stung 078’s nostrils, and responded to the SkyWing. “I just beg to know why.” He said with a smirk, his pale scales began to dot with yellow. Pyro ignored his snarky response. “The Queens have come for a orginized meeting, and they want to see the latest projects…” He trailed off as he noticed 078 looking out one of the windows. Pyro scoffed. “Are you listening?” “Sure. You were saying something about…a meeting?” 078 sounded unsure at the end. He squinted as the sun rose over the sea, shining in their eyes. “Yes. And I need you there. But no fooling around, I need you to demonstrate your abilities.”
Pyro stumbled up, and began to pace the room. “I need to become more known, so I can rule the SkyWings. King Cliff is too old to be ruling as he is. He can barely even form a sentence now!” Plumes of smoke burst out of his nostrils as he yelled. “And his stupid smoke-brained daughters won't ever challenge him for throne. Theyre too far gone. And why have a dragonet when youre almost 300?!” As he complained, 078 drifted into daydreaming.
A beach so familiar yet so distant formed in their mind. Waves slowly pushed onto the beach, and sunk back into the ocean. Seagulls cries filled the salty air. 078 felt sand inbetween his talons, and sighed. Ahead of him, a bright blue SeaWing let his wings catch the air as he stood facing the ocean, a peaceful smile spread across his face.
Its him again. 078 had been having daydreams and normal dreams about the dragonet for a month now, and it was almost always the same. He began to walk towards the chubby dragon, their tail swifting in the sand. The SeaWing opened his eyes, and turned to look at him. He shined a teethy smile at him, and shook his tail, almost like a dog exited to see its friend. 078 felt the strange urge to smile, and hurried his pace. His purple talons sunk into the sand. As they reached him, the SeaWings Wings moved to encircle him into a hug. 078 closed his eyes, letting their smile grow. The sun beat on his pale scales as he wrapped their talons around the others warm body.
When he opened his eyes, a forest at night met him. He looked down, only to see the SeaWing sunk to the grass, dead.
Chapter 2[]
characters in this chapter: 078, Pyro, Krill, Antelope
“Are you listening?!” An angry voice snaps 078 out of his daze, causing him to shrink back from the warmth radiating off the SkyWing’s bright scales. It’s never ended like that before… They thought, confused.
“No.” He responded, blandly. Pyro’s face twisted in annoyance, scoffing at the dragonet's words.
“Antelope should’ve punished you more.” The sickly yellow dragon muttered to himself. “Well, your first mission is tonight.” He paused, turning his back to 078. “You need to train beforehand, and I’ll assign Krill to tidy up your appearance.” 078 scoffed at him, shocked.
“What do you mean, tonight?! I need more practice than this!” They yelled, his scales shifting colors. Does he think I’m ready? I barely know how to control my venom! Let alone by tail!
“Shut it!” Pyro yelled, smoke billowing from his mouth as he turned back around. “Queen Ibex is paying over 2,000 coins for this, and I will NOT let you waste this opportunity.”
078 lowered his head, nervous. He could feel his scales tingling in the heat. Pyro shook his head, laughing to himself. “Krill, take him to the training grounds. I’ll need him and the rest of the group sent off by sunset.”
Krill, the pink SeaWing, came back from under the tapestry. “Yes, Sir Pyro.” She said, grabbing 078 by the arm, and leading him back down the dull hallway.
078 was too shocked to joke around, their brain spinning in confusion. I was requested by Queen Ibex? Seriously? He thought while staring at the clay floors. Why does she need assassins? Does she really want to start another SandWing war? Gosh, I thought that was a thing of the past.
At the sight of grass below his talons, 078 finally looked up. They had finally reached the training grounds. The training grounds are 078’s only exposure to the outside world, other than the sound and smell of the beach. It had grass and dirt floors, with plants and trees coating the area. Cloth dummies were scattered around the clearing, with a couple of dragons already using them for training.
Krill unlocked 078’s cuffs, signaling him to start moving. 078 sighed and started walking to a dummy.
After almost 2 hours of slicing, striking, and sighing, the hybrids were taken inside to be tidied up. 078 was led to a room separate from the rest, a room he was familiar with. A honey-colored dragon welcomed them in, a warm grin resting on her face.
It was Antelope, 078’s mother. He let out a long sigh of relief, glad to be in the comfort of her presence. They sat in comfortable silence, as the Hivewing started to disguise her child. She used a brown leather cape to cover his back and tail, washing their face with a warm cloth. She attached a leather bag to 078’s neck, metal disks shifting inside.
“I’m done.” Antelope said with a warm voice while patting his back. 078 turned to look at one of the mirrors in their mothers room, one with golden decals decorating it’s frame. He sighed, looking at his new appearance.
“Do you think I’m ready?” 078 looked at their mom, anxiously shifting his talons. Antelope’s smile faltered, her eyebrows furrowed.
“It wasn’t my decision, honey. You know how hard I try to keep you away from these things. But…” she paused, adjusting her glasses, “...he didn’t listen to me this time.”
She turned to hug her child, whispering in his ear. “I believe in you. I love you.” 078 hugged their mom back, struggling to hold back the tears stinging his eyes.
“I love you too, mom.” They mumbled in his moms neck, talons shivering. He knew their mom was nervous, he could feel her body shaking, the dark brown spines along her back shivering.
A sudden knock at the door led 078 to let go of Antelope’s body, their body turning rigid. Antelope hesitated, looking between her child and the door, before walking up to the entrance. The SkyWing guard greeted Antelope as she opened the door.
“It’s time for the group to leave.” She said, looking behind the HiveWings body to the dragonet. 078 sat up, and pushed his way out of the door, silent. Antelope sighed, nodding.
“Good luck.” She said, closing the door.
The outside was more amazing than 078 has ever imagined. 2 half moons lightly lit the beach the dragons were gathered on, illuminating the sand they stood on. The soft crashing of waves filled their ears, and 078 would’ve been happy if he was given time to enjoy their surroundings.
The group of assassins were familiar yet distant to him, only remembering 2 or 3 of them. He was grouped with a SkyWing hybrid, for the soul purpose of carrying them to the IceWing Kingdom, where they were assigned.
Will I even grow wings? 078 pondered. I wonder if my genes are too screwed up for it. It wouldn’t be a surprise if he never grew wings, as several hybrids in the program had failed to develop certain traits. Though, none were as serious as never gaining wings.
A whistle caught his surprise, and the group sprang into the air. The SkyWing hybrid grabbed them, and thrust their wings into flight.
Chapter 3 (OLD)[]
characters in this chapter: 078, Hydro
Hydro was messing with grass at the time 0 came back. It was midnight, and Hydro’s stomach could be heard from a mile away. “I thought you left me!” Hydro groaned at the sight of the hybrid, “I wouldn’t leave my stuff with a seawing.” 078 said blankly, throwing the blue scaled dragon a huge plump cow. “Wow! Where did you get this?” Hydro said as he stuffed his face in it. “Stole it from a farm.” 078 sunk their teeth into the warm flesh. “I would care more, but I'm hungry.” Hydro mumbled into the cow. After a few minutes in silence, and the faint sounds of chewing, they were both done eating. “Ah” 078 looked at the tent, “Sorry i only have one tent, gonna have to sleep together.” Hydro looked at the leather tent. “Ok, that's fine with me!” He smiled at the dragonet once again, but didn't get a reaction. “Uh, I'll go first then.” The seawing climbed into the tent, and curled up, closing his eyes, his scales faintly glowing from the campfire. 078 stared at him, before climbing in beside him, curling around the smaller. “Mm..’night” Hydro mumbled tiredly, staring at him, he could hear his heartbeat in his ear, but 078 slowly dozed off to the sound of Hydro breathing.
The sun woke Hydro up, his eyes slowly opening, the light seeping into them. The deep blue seawing stretched out of his ball shape, and stumbled out of the tent, seeing that 078 had already made breakfast. “Ooo! How did you know I like crab!” Hydro grabbed 10 of the legs, and stuffed them into his mouth, drinking up the oil beside it. “I didn’t know, just assumed you would.” 078 said with his monotone voice, that was slightly heavier in the morning. “Mm!” Hydro muffled, shoving more of the sea creature into his mouth. After he was done eating, 078 explained why he was here, and what happened. “You can come with me!” Hydro said to the hybrid, smiling. “And where is that?” 078 asked. “I live at the beach with my school friends! I'm sure you would like them!” Hydro shook 078s shoulders, he seemed more than excited, in ways 078 couldn’t describe. “...” 078 hesitated and stared at the seawing, his eyes gleaming in excitement, and hope. “I- Fine.” 078 closed his eyes and sighed. I'm committed to this random seawing I just met now. “Thank you! Thank you thank you thank you!!” Hydro squealed in excitement, his tail wagging, and he was jumping around, hugging 078 at the same time. “Alright! I get it, can we go now? Is traveling at sea faster?” “I think, but you can't swim that far can't you?” Hydro asked, his gaze looking back at 078. “I do have gills you know, just aren't as obvious as yours.” As a que, his gills flared, but instead of the usual red of them, it was deep blue, a sign of Icewing royalty. “Wow! That's so cool!” 078 smiled to himself, no dragon has ever complimented me. “Alright, the sun's up, let's pack and leave! I'm so excited to introduce them to you!” Hydro jumped back into the tent as he left 078 sitting at the burnt out campfire.
