Appearance[]
From afar, Ghostwatcher looks like trouble. Up, close, he looks like trouble. He is tall and elegantly handsome, with muscled arms, a serpentine body, and long, aristocratic-looking bones and horns. He's as sleek and glossy as a seal, with purplish -black scales. He has navy blue undersides, and a bluish-white exocranium set with large, doleful dark purple eyes. He wears a silver chain around his neck and a silver skull ring on his finger. But looking closer, to his high cheekbones and chiseled jaw, you see sunken cheeks and hollow eyes, like one who never bothered to care for their body. Following him is an albino wolf pup.
Personality[]
Inside, Ghostwatcher's a wreck of a dragon. You could describe Ghostwatcher in one word: insecure. He's always been so. He's shy and gloomy and quiet. No one has ever heard more than a few words from him. He spends most of his time alone, talking to ghosts. He's also slightly mental. He's constantly berating himself, scolding and mocking and jeering at himself. He is often heard calling himself a freak, a curse, a mistake. His only comfort is Tuff, his wolf pup, whom one might describe as his emotional support.
History[]
It started with his grandmother, Twilight Sky. She met a NightWing diplomat named Psychic and fell in love with him. After he left for the Night Kingdom, she found out that she was with egg. She laid the egg in secret, but she couldn't hide the dragonet that hatched from it, whom she named Crescent Moon. But Crescent Moon had a good dragonethood besides. When she was eight, she met the god Calix and fell in love. And so Ghostwatcher was hatched. Crescent Moon had decided to name him using NightWing naming traditions. He was a bit mental from the start, after he saw his first ghost. He thought he was hallucinating. Everywhere he went, there seemed to be ghosts. Specters, apparitions. And it never stopped. Nobody believed him when he told them about the apparitions. Soon, his only friends were the ghosts. He was picked on by other dragonets wherever he went. One day, when he was three, he was cornered in the woods by a gang of bullies. They knocked him down, then mocked and berated him, slapping him and spitting on him. Soon, he broke into sobs. Then he cracked. His ghost friends sensed his distress and came. Seeing the antagonists, the made themselves visible and terrified the bullies, getting in their faces and making hideous, terrible faces, as they couldn't touch them. Some of the bullies died of shock. Yokai sensed the great gathering of ghosts and attacked. Yet the ghosts could touch them, and defended Ghostwatcher. Many adults heard the commotion and came running. Woe to the ones who got in the yokai's way, or saw the faces of the ghosts. As the yokai couldn't reach Ghostwatcher, they slaughtered Cresent Moon instead, who was one of the adults who had come. When Ghostwatcher's tears finally dried up, he was alone. He felt oddly cold and jumpy, like the slightest noise could make him bolt. He thought he could hear faint, distant screams of terror, but couldn't tell where they were coming from. Of course, scouts from Gin Chi Sanctuary noticed the great gathering of yokai, even if they didn't sense Ghostwatcher. Ghostwatcher sensed them coming and hid. When they found him, he flew at their eyes then bolted. The scouts easily outdistanced and caught him. After much wheeling and beseeching, they convinced Ghostwatcher to return to Gin Chi Sanctuary with them.
