Overview[]

Description[]

Fletcher is a fairly large dragon in terms of the CentiWing tribe. His horns are a near-scarlet color, similar to paprika. His whiskers are the same color, and curl similarly to a mustache. His underbelly is a dark reddish-gray color.

Fletcher's armor is a nearly black color, and is rather tough, even for other members of his tribe. Running along the back of each segment is a gold rim and on the sides, trailing down his whole body, are a pair of red stripes for which he is named.

Personality[]

Fletcher can easily be described as a fatherly dragon, or just a generally parental one. He's mostly soft spoken and gives rather good advice while also having a love of the worst jokes known to dragon kind.

He is also rather protective of dragons he considers friends, almost overly so. His son, Goldstrip, is the primary target of this, though he has grown used to it. Fletcher has attempted to tone himself down, but has ended up failing miserably.

Fletcher is also rather conflicted over what he does. This is mostly due to the role he plays in the schemes of Vaultbreaker Pyrite, which he is well-aware are wrong. To mostly absolve himself of guilt, Fletcher tends to turn a blind eye towards Vaultbreaker's tendencies, and acts like he believes Vaultbreaker is buying his items rather than stealing them from other dragons.

History[]

Redstripe was hatched in the Crawlspace Den in about 4973 AS, to his mother, Fletcher Scarlet. Redstripe never knew his father, and was raised almost solely by his mother. He was hatched about three years before his brother, Prowl. Fletcher didn't necessarily dislike Prowl, but he found him annoying and generally hard to deal with.

When he was old enough, Fletcher went to school for the first time. He didn't have many friends, and initially found science frustratingly difficult, but solved the first problem by making a friend, a dragonet named Lavender. Lavender and Fletcher stuck together almost constantly, and joked almost too often (specifically about their teachers). Prowl would tease them mercilessly once he could, but Fletcher didn't mind much.

Eventually, Lavender convinced Fletcher to come with her to explore a cave. Fletcher was reluctant to say the least, but accepted the deal. Prowl attempted to stop them, but he quickly gave up once he got the message that they weren't listening to him.

Lavender chose a cave that was off-limits due to being unstable, and Fletcher began to get a bit nervous, though he followed her anyway. Fletcher eventually found a room full of bodies, buried in a cave collapse, and quickly suggested to Lavender that they should go. She finally agreed, and they made for the exit, but not before the cave roof collapsed.

Fletcher and Lavender were mostly fine, although one of Lavender's tail pincers was crushed in the process. They were trapped in there for a very very long time, until both of them eventually lost count. Fletcher kept himself mostly sane by looking around the cave, whereas Lavender talked to literally no end.

Eventually, after Prowl alerted their mother, who then alerted some miners, Fletcher and Lavender were recovered from the cavern in mostly one piece. Fletcher was given pretty much the scolding of a lifetime, and was subsequently forced to take Prowl along with him everywhere, an arrangement which neither of them liked.

When he turned seven, Fletcher went through his third molt, and his mother finally lifted his punishment. Fletcher initially wanted to pursue a career in history, but then decided that it would be best if he followed his mother's profession. So, he apprenticed under her and became a fletcher.

Fletcher got his Vocational License when he was 9, and met back up with Lavender, whom he hadn't see since the cave incident. They met up in between each other's places of work, in Balding basin, and sat down for a chat. Fletcher and Lavender (now named Artillerist) ended up talking for hours, and agreed to meet back in about a month's time.

Fletcher used this time to grow more skilled in his craft, however their meeting was pushed back quite far, until eventually a full year passed by. During this time, Fletcher first met Vaultbreaker Pyrite, as he walked back into his den while Vaultbreaker was still poaching his stuff.

Vaultbreaker, being the conniving worm he is, managed to convince Fletcher not to turn him in in exchange for a partnership of sorts. Fletcher agreed, and took Vaultbreaker's goods to the market, selling them off. This took about a week, but Fletcher returned to his den one day to find Vaultbreaker already there. He gave Vaultbreaker his share, told him to never return, and forced him outside.

Except Vaultbreaker came back. Again. And again. This kept going for ages until Fletcher eventually became Vaultbreaker's main guy to get money from, and Fletcher had to open a whole separate pawn shop just to hold all the items. While all of this was going on, Fletcher continued his meetings with Artillerist Lavender, and soon enough they had rekindled most of their old friendship.

After being in contact with Vaultbreaker for so long, about seven years, Fletcher had grown used to his near constant visits. He almost began to tolerate Vaultbreaker's presence, and that terrified him. However, this terror was mostly mitigated by some news from Lavender. Essentially, it was that she would be staying in Crawlspace for a year on account of some new projects.

Fletcher was delighted, and pretty much immediately began drawing up plans. He was also extremely happy during this time because Vaultbreaker's visits had dramatically slowed in terms of him just appearing out of literally nowhere. During this trip, Fletcher and Lavender spent pretty much all their time together, and eventually Lavender had an egg.

Fletcher was extremely happy with this development, and, once again, began planning. Since the egg was laid more or less during the beginning of that year, it hatched towards the end of Lavender's trip. The two came to an agreement on the name Goldstrip, and, thus, Goldstrip was hatched.

At the end of the year, Lavender's project was over, and she had to move back to Old Stronghold. After a small debate, it was eventually decided that Fletcher would keep Goldstrip, on account of Lavender's work being too dangerous to have a dragonet nearby. Fletcher agreed in the end, only because his mind ended up flashing back to the cave scenario of his and Lavender's dragonethoods.

Vaultkeeper's usual appearance schedule started back up again pretty much the exact day that Lavender left. Fletcher took the new stuff and brought it to the shop, per usual, and took Goldstrip with him as well. Vaultkeeper seemed almost intrigued by the dragonet, to which Fletcher refused to hand him over. Vaultkeeper decided getting involved wasn't worth it and vanished soon after.

Fletcher followed this routine every day for the next few years. He'd wake up, take Goldstrip to the shop, and get to work on both selling the stuff he'd gotten from Vaultbreaker and doing his actual job of fletching arrows. Goldstrip eventually grew up more and he started coming with his father willingly. Fletcher taught Goldstrip whatever he could during these times, and Goldstrip got pretty good at interacting with others dragons.

Vaultkeeper continued to be the unwelcome guest in Fletcher's house, and Fletcher was not at all happy with how much Goldstrip liked him. So, he began planning ways to "get rid of" Vaultkeeper, or at least get him off their back.

Fletcher would take Goldstrip on trips to Lavender's home at least once every two or so weeks, and she seemed to adore him. These visits were often cut short due to times and jobs, but Fletcher was happy to see that Goldstrip and Lavender liked each other.

Miscellaneous[]

Relationships[]

Vaultbreaker Pyrite[]

Fletcher has a very professional relationship with Vaultbreaker, though he doesn't really like him all that much. He feels mostly shame at the fact that he still works with him after all these years, and is still hiding Vaultbreaker's activities from Goldstrip.

He still relies on the pawn shop for money, however, and as such begrudgingly continues to work with Vaultbreaker.

Lithographer Bullseye[]

Fletcher didn't know much about Lithographer until recently, and he likes her even less than Vaultbreaker. The idea of making false Vocational Licenses is ridiculous to him, and he just generally dislikes it greatly.

All in all, Fletcher's relationship is worse with Lithographer because he has no counter-reason to his dislike of her.

Goldstrip[]

Fletcher loves his son dearly, and would do practically anything for him. He's also quite proud of where he's gotten, as Goldstrip is currently working towards getting his Vocational License. Fletcher has regular conversations with his son over what he does each day.

As such, Fletcher's relationship with Goldstrip is extremely positive, and looks like it will continue to be that way for quite a while.

Artillerist Lavender[]

Like with his son, Fletcher is very close to Lavender. They know each other extremely well, and have been speaking with each other for literally their entire lives. Having Goldstrip really only served to bring them closer together, and they've had a great time teaching him whatever they know.

Fletcher is obviously quite frightened that Lavender will figure out what he does with Vaultbreaker, and has been keeping the information to himself for a very very long time.

Their relationship is almost entirely positive, outside of a couple arguments, and they certainly intend to keep it that way.

Strengths[]

  • Secretkeeping: Fletcher is quite good at keeping secrets.
  • Haggling: He runs a pawn shop, so of course he's good at this.
  • Fine Construction: Fletcher is great at working with small objects, per his job.

Weaknesses[]

  • Regrets: Fletcher has deep regrets, and very often goes down a rabbit hole of these at the worst of times.
  • Recklessness: As stated earlier, Fletcher would do anything for both Goldstrip and Lavender. This includes dying for them.
