Fern is a scavenger/human who lives in Pyrrhia and Pantala. She was orphaned when she was young and now travels with two dragons, Nightshade and Jequirity. She is a main character in The Dark of Night.

Fern has wavy black hair that reaches to her chest, usually tied up in a ponytail. She has clear green eyes that sparkle with mischief and a wreath of flowers around her head made by Jequirity that is usually lopsided. She wears beige to black clothes and always has a sack slung across her back and she seems to be able to pull a perfect apple out of it every time. She also has a quiver of arrows and a bow on her back and she commonly has a rope tied around her waist.
Fern is laid-back and talkative. Her ability to speak dragon is countered only by that of Wren. She has a strong sense of humor and knows how to keep a conversation going. She is impossible to interrupt when she's talking. She can ignore just about anything.
She's a master at the art of the bow. She can shoot anything with her hands and her feet. She can climb very well and she loves fruit, especially apples.
Fern was thrown into the wild at birth and found by a dragon named Jequirity. Thankfully for her, Jequirity had a soft spot for scavengers and took her home. But he knew that Nightshade, the dragon he traveled with, would not appreciate having a scavenger in the house.
Jequirity trained Fern in secret for years, training her in dragon and the ways of an assassin. Soon, he took Fern to meet Nightshade. W.I.P

Jequirity adopted and helped Fern in her time of need. They have bonded just as well as Sky and Wren have and they have taught each other all about their separate species. Their friendship is cut perhaps only by Jequirity's love for Nightshade.

Nightshade and Fern never got along at first since Nightshade viewed her as inferior. But soon Fern proved her worth and became an official member of their assassin cult. Fern has been able to impress Nightshade many times and their kill rates of their own species are almost the same.

Fern and Pyro don't like each other especially because Pyro tried to eat Fern the first time he saw her. The fact that Pyro stares at Fern with a hungry expression and that he asks Jequirity for her price every second probably doesn't help.

Fern met Fox by pure chance, bumping into each other on the outskirts of Fox's village. Fern was going to kill her until she realized Fox looked very similar to her. They talked and realized they were sisters. Fox and Fern are polar opposites but still get along well but their experiences with life make it a bit hard for them to show each other their home.
