APPEARANCE[]

Duskfall is a completely pitch-black NightWing. All of his scales are inky black, and he has an odd absence of star scales on his wings. His eyes are a beautiful quartz grey, and his horns, spine-spikes and claws are dark charcoal...not quite black, but extremely hard to see. Duskfall sometimes wears two thin bracelets with a half moon on one and a full moon on the other, and the bright silver color contrasts strongly with his scales. Dragons often say that Dusk looks like an endless abyss, and due to his magnetically attractive, almost seductive aura, they often feel as if they are being pulled towards a black hole. Oddly, Duskfall also has matte scales, which means that they are still pitch-black in the light, as you cannot see any shine or reflection. This makes dragons feel a bit odd around him, as they can't see...well, any part of him at all. It's almost like looking at a dragon's shadow.

PERSONALITY[]

Duskfall is strong and outwardly self-confident, and soothing and attractive at the same time. Most dragons are put off by his strangeness and ability to attractively and coaxingly weave words together, but if you dug deep enough you would find he is a very kind dragon underneath all the layers of tempting friendliness and seductive-like behavior. He gets on a dragon's good side almost immediately; you'll often find him using his sweet tongue and magnetic aura on somebody in the room. Since Duskfall can weakly read people's minds, this sometimes helps him understand what they are going through, and he unconsciously makes himself even more appealing to the dragon by bringing up topics that would interest them. Dusk's powers are so dim that he can basically only read emotions, but it's still a great power, just like his telepathy. Sadly, when dragons leave his presence they often have thoughts like 'That NightWing is so creepy, why was I even talking to him?' This strains most of Dusk's friendships, and he can find it very hard to find someone who actually likes him and isn't just 'attracted.'

Underneath his appearance, magnetic personality and silver tongue, Duskfall is actually carrying a lot of pain with him. He had a relatively nice family, but he grew up in the NightWing volcano, and his childhood was tough. Nobody could see Dusk very well in the dim light and ashes, and dragons often yelled at him or cursed him when they bumped into each other while walking or flying. He eventually became a sort of 'bad omen' there, and was blamed for anything wrong that happened. If a NightWing would trip and tumble into the lava, "it was Dusk's sinister doing." This earned Duskfall his ability to talk smoothly; he was always trying to get on the NightWings friendly sides and remind them that he was a good person, worthy of love and attention. His childhood was even harder because his parents were always working. They were the head of order at the Volcano, and had to make sure everything was in order. Duskfall and his brother Sunrise hardly ever saw them. When Sunrise and Swindle died in the eruption, Dusk was left with nothing but a burning feeling of guilt and sadness, which you can see in his eyes. He still tries extremely hard to make other dragons like him, but even if he received their love or praise he would feel unworthy of it. He doesn't think he's good enough, and wishes that he just had someone to hold him in their wings without caring about anything that's wrong with him.

ABILITIES[]

Duskfall can read minds, but unless he is extremely close to the dragon it's directed to, or the dragon's thought's are very, very loud, than he can only read emotions. He can sense the position of the crowd by just stepping into the room, which helps him with his marvelous word-weaving and chest-twisting charm.

He also has the natural ability of telepathy, and if he is concentrating, can project his thoughts at anybody. If they hear him and want to respond, he'll hear it as well. He used this form of communication all the time with Sunrise when they were in boring meetings, so they could make fun of Morrowseer or the Queen.

Dusk also has fairly sharp claws, so in self-defense he has no disability; in fact he has an advantage, as his claws are charcoal hued, and can barely be seen when they reach forward to slice something or someone. If Duskfall ever launched an attack or assassination on a dragon at night, he would succeed; they would not be able to defend themselves from something that isn't there.

The problem with Dusk's shadow-scales is that out of all dragons, he wants to be seen the most. He just want's someone to notice him and begin a friendship, or wrap their wings around him. He knows that he unsettles others, and he tries his very best to reverse that effect, to almost no avail.

HISTORY[]

Duskfall's brother Sunrise died when the NightWing volcano erupted. He was crushed under the rubble and buried alive, along with his father Swindle. The event has always haunted Duskfall, and he feels like it was his fault. Nevertheless, Dusk has always been a roguishly handsome dragon...even if no one can exactly see his face.

When Duskfall ventured to learn at an academy, he met fellow classmates Paradise and BirchBlossom. Birch attracted him immediately, but he was extremely good at hiding his true emotions, which may not have served him so well in the end...he still sometimes wonders where she is.

RELATIONSHIPS[]

BIRCHBLOSSOM & PARADISE[]

Duskfall was good friends with his short-term schoolmates BirchBlossom and Paradise. He met them when he was 11, and the fact that they were around 4 years younger than him never really fazed anybody. He may have developed a small crush on Birch, but...well, he never saw her again after school, and he could never find her again. He also felt embarrassed, because he didn't know what to think. When their summer academy was attacked, they all fled; but sadly Dusk wasn't with BirchBlossom or Paradise at the time. He feels a moderate sense of loss losing both of them at once, as he has never been able to make real friends. He would have liked to see how their relationship expanded over time. These events have made Dusk close up his heart even more, and he feels that misfortune follows him everywhere. He still tries vainly to connect with other dragons, but even if he did get their attention, he wouldn't feel like he deserved it.

INSCRUTABLE[]

Duskfall met Inscrutable when the NightWings moved to the Rainforest Kingdom. They clicked, and Dusk has kept an eye on the interesting dragonet since. He feels a strange pull to him, and likes being around him; Duskfall has always been that dragon, but it makes him happy not being the only one. He watches Inscrutable with intent, and they sometimes exchange words about the escape from the Volcano, although this topic makes them both weary. Somehow they can never find words to say to each other, and end up keeping a strange but observatory distance to one another.

STARGAZER & SHADOWCLAW[]

This is a work in progress. Please be patient for more!

SUNRISE[]

Sunrise was Duskfall's brother, but he died in the eruption at the NightWing volcano along with their father, Swindle. When he was alive though, Dusk and him were inseparable. They would do everything together, and Sunrise's shining personality and looks balanced the two brothers out perfectly. Sun was skinny and lithe, very handsome but somehow very clumsy. He was bubbly and positive, and made jokes constantly. Sunrise's scales were dark green and black, with hints of light yellow all through his scales. In many ways he was the opposite of Dusk, having light scales instead of dark, being bubbly instead of solemn, and standing slender and willowy instead of muscular and steady like Duskfall is.

BLOTCH & SWINDLE[]

Blotch and Swindle are Duskfall's parents. They had a decent relationship with their dragonets throughout Dusk's and Sun's childhood, and loved them very much; but they were always working, and therefore didn't have much sway over their two children. They hardly got quality family time even once a week, and were always separated. Despite all this, Blotch and Swindle cared very much about their dragonets, and would care for them intently when they had the time. When Dusk's father, Swindle died along with Sunrise, Duskfall and Blotch were devastated. Blotch left Duskfall alone, retreating into the rainforest to mourn over her soulmate and favorite son. Dusk is now practically an orphan, as his mother doesn't want to be found...and even if Dusk could find her, she wouldn't speak a word to him.

TRIVIA[]

  • Duskfall can sense others emotions with his weak mind-reading powers
  • He once snuck into Morrowseer's chambers as a young dragonet, stole his keys and set a young RainWing free from the venom-testing labs
  • Dusk dislikes dead animals and meat, because they remind him of the smell of his brother and father burning under the rubble of the Volcano, along with countless other dragons. He is vegetarian, and it makes him sick to his stomach every time he smells charred meat
  • Duskfall really enjoys reading, though he takes up most of his free time by trying to make friends with other dragons
  • He can use telepathy both ways if the other dragon is consciously consensual and tries purposely to speak back to him
  • Dusk has a secret fondness for stars, and will spend all night staring at them, wishing he glowed as brightly
  • Duskfall has never been in a romantic relationship
  • Dusk's favorite animal is a swan. He loves how social and dependent they are to the rest of their ballet, and admires how they pick a partner for life.
  • He dreams very vividly, and often has nightmares about things. He can still see his family's bodies burning under the rubble from the Volcano, and can still hear their terrified shrieking. Dusk has these dreams almost every night, and they sometimes get worse.
  • Duskfall has the tell-tale silver teardrop scales by his eyes, but they are very dull and you can hardly see them against his dark coloring.
  • He wrote the poem at the top of this page on the back of a scroll while reading about the other tribes during study.
  • Once, for Duskfall's 5th hatching day, Sunrise gave him a card and accidentally spelled his name like 'Duksfall,' putting the K before the S. After that, Sun would call him Ducks Fall all the time...up until he died. Dusk hasn't been called by that nickname in near 3 years.
  • He is the main character in the RP fanfic A Sky Full of Thoughts.
