Demigod cover Silverdonna

Demigod[]

CW for profanity, violence, slight gore, and other such things.[]

Demigod is a story inspired by Tui T. Sutherland's Wings of Fire series. It features the land of demigods and follows the adventures of X, Four, Two, and more.

Most of the characters are inspired by some from Jacknjellify's BFDI series on YouTube.

Written by Silverdonna, formerly ApaturatheSilkWing. Do not edit this without permission from him, even to fix something. My alt is Peril but bored so it may sometimes say edited by them.

This story’s Pantala is the same as in The New Pantala, though they are not in the same universe.

Animus dragons do not exist for the sake of the demigods, and no canon events have happened besides the Scorching and the whole Darkstalker incident. Animi were extinguished by the demigods after that.

A note about pronouns (and tribes)[]

One: They/them (SkyWing)

Two: They/them (Tribeless)

Three: He/him (RainWing)

Four: They/them, he/him (NightWing)

Five: They/them, he/him (SilkWing)

Six: They/them, he/him (SeaWing)

Seven: They/them, she/her (LeafWing)

Eight: They/them, he/him (MudWing)

Nine: All pronouns (IceWing)

Ten: They/them, he/him (HiveWing)

X: They/them, he/him (SandWing)

All of them are genderless.

In terms of colour, all are off-coloured except for X (yellow), Ten (orange), Nine (white), Six (blue), Five (purple), Three (red), and Two (green).

One is bright blue, Four is bright blue, Seven is dark grey, and Eight is grey.

They also all have their tribes’ special abilities, except for the most powerful ones - firescales and animus magic. Eight, for example, is fireproof, while Seven has leafspeak, Five has flamesilk, etc. Ten also has three HiveWing abilities instead of the usual maximum of two. Four can also read minds anyway, and did not hatch under any full moons, therefore does not have foresight.

The demigods live at the point of Jade Mountain - any academy or building would therefore be at the base of Agate Mountain instead so as not to disrespect them.

There will likely be no ships in this, unless I decide.

Prologue: One[]

The Scorching seemed like a mere decade ago. Or was it a year? Maybe it had even just happened an hour ago. Either way, it felt like it had happened recently. But no; it had happened over five thousand years ago.

There wasn't really a way to keep track of the time. One wasn't sure how the, as the others called it, mortals knew that it was 5012 AS. They could only tell when someone like Eight said what year it was.

As literal One, they were always, well, embarrassed to ask for something when she didn't know what it was. Like scavengers, for example. There'd been an expedition to go for them a couple years ago, but they'd only seen bald monkeys that were somewhat intelligent.

Either way, it was rather confusing, a lot of things, for them. As (what the MudWings called it) the "bigwings" of the other demigods, they'd seen more, and therefore had an... odd memory for things.

Despite that, One knew what had happened in the Scorching. They'd seen it, after all. So whenever they heard mortal dragons talking about what had happened and getting a lot of things confused, they always laughed about it.

One also liked to listen to their takes on the demigods. There were many, named after every number and variable imaginable. Though the main ones were the first ten. Also another irrelevant dragonet (surprisingly).

There were many legends from the mortals of them, none of which were exactly true, of course. Only One actually knew how their histories all really went. Some of the dumber demigods thought that some stories were true, since One always declined when asked about the true story.

One had a good way of shutting things to the back of their mind. The thing was that only around three of the demigods actually had powers - most stories thought that they all did, while others thought none did. And, of course, some of those powers included mind scanning, so One had to be good at locking their brain when around the others.

There was one demigod, one who had the most power. No, it was not One - they didn't even have any power, only authority and respect. The demigod who was the most powerful out of them all was...

Four.

He was such a random number-named demigod that not even the others knew why he had it. Not even he did. But, of course, with his power came certain sadistic tendencies.

Even the others were afraid of him at times. Well, except for two - no, one other who had just more than half of his power. Well, actually, it was the former - because their name was Two.

They... weren't as feared as Four, since they were a lot nicer. Like X, the third demigod with power, who was probably the most innocent. He was still a little confused on how to use it.

Nothing really special was happening right now, so One was just sat there, thinking to themselves alone. Hopefully no one would disturb them.

Oh, no wait - they shouldn't think that. Because every time they did, someone -

"Hey, One!"

Ah, there it is. One turned to see, surprisingly, X waving at them.

One and X didn't really talk much. One was very busy, and X (being the youngest of the main demigods. He somehow never seemed to age, which was odd) was always playing around with Four.

Right. Four. One didn't see why Four liked X so much. They definitely had some arguments at times, with Four pretty much always winning using his annoying powers, but otherwise they were pretty good friends. Best friends, if you will.

Four also had, well... he had the mindset of a dragonet as well. He basically was a dragonet. Actually, they all were - they never aged physically. It was strange, though they were demigods. It was odd, in One's opinion. Also, they didn't like being the older sibling all the time. It was pretty annoying.

Speaking of being an older sibling...

"Yes, X?" One said, turning to the smaller dragon. They all were considered the demigods of the tribes - well, one had no tribe, so represented that, of course. X, meanwhile, was a SandWing, while One was a SkyWing.

"I just wanted to know how long it is until I can go out yet," X said, sitting next to One.

There was a giant storm right now. Since X wasn't too skilled at flying, they couldn't be trusted to go out into a heavy hurricane just yet, which was why One wanted to keep him inside.

"Until the storm ends, X," One said, turning back to looking outside. Something about the sound of the thunder, the pitter-patter of the rain, and the feeling that they were inside in the warm while outside was bitter cold and damp... something about it made them feel almost cozy. They wouldn't admit that, though, of course.

"But when will that end?" X replied, glancing outside. "Couldn't Five just, like, check the weather or something? You know, with their antennae?"

"Yes, but Five's wings are delicate," One pointed out. "You know, like butterflies. They'll have to go out later."

"But can they not check while inside?" said X, now visibly confused.

"The walls are thick, X," One replied. "I don't know if the vibrations can pass through them."

"Oh," X replied, relaxing a little. Good. Now he knew the reason he was still inside, they'd -

"Uhm... while we're at it," he added. One knew what was coming.

"Could you tell me about those scavengers again?"

Oh. One was surprised. They hadn't expected that. They'd thought he'd ask about their history. "Sure," they said. "But why do you want to know?"

"I want to do a scavenger hunt," X declared. "Four said they'd do it with me. But I dunno - I forgot what scavengers looked like."

One smiled. X and Four. The troublemakers. One an idiot, one a less powerful idiot. But friends nonetheless.

"Scavengers are small monkey-like figures," One began, "and the only visible cluster of hair they have is on their heads."

Part One: Pyrrhia or Pantala?[]

Chapter One: Four[]

The dragonet was like none other Four had seen before. It was small - not too plump, but not too skinny, either.

The thing was, though; the main feature of the dragonet was the way steam rose from its scales as the heavy rain dripped from the leaves carrying it.

The storm was still going on. Four had decided to visit Pyrrhia because they wanted to, so they went into the rainforest; the most peaceful part of Pyrrhia. Well… the most peaceful part, this thing wasn’t in it.

Four, having noticed the burning, had kept the dragonet away from the trees. Still, they were in only a small clearing, and Four feared he’d possibly be responsible for the arson of an entire rainforest.

The dragonet was visibly a SkyWing. It was orange, with slightly yellow highlights. Its scales also seemed to be glowing and on fire. Well, they were.

Four had only heard of firescales dragons long ago, when One had decided to tell a couple of the others a small story of the different abilities. Like how royal SeaWings had cool starburst patterns on their wings - Six had patterns on his wings, but he didn’t seem to be connected to the mortal SeaWing royal family.

Either way, this dragonet was odd. And it was bright. Like, glowing bright.

”Hello,” Four said, staring at the young one in curiosity. It let out a squeak; its voice was… well, it had no voice. But it sounded… annoying, like the others called his voice.

It clearly couldn’t form words yet, so would be difficult to communicate with. It was cute. When Four touched its scales, it made a squeak sound like the one it had just made.

Oh. Right. Fireproof. It was an odd thing he had. Eight was also fireproof, but still got hurt by fire, though his scales weren’t damaged by it.

”Squak!” the SkyWing dragonet yelped. That made Four realise how oddly gentle he was, and how he should probably leave the dragonet alone.

But the thing was that, because they were usually ordered to stay in the “land of demigods” at the point of Jade Mountain, so Four had hardly ever actually come into contact with any mortals, despite seeing many dragons over the years come and go. So seeing this dragonet - well, that was a treat.

”Four!” a voice suddenly called, as Four was lost in thought.

Oh, three moons! Four thought. But, wait…

After a moment, he recognised the voice as his friend, X’s. X wouldn’t mind what I’m doing. They’re too dumb.

Four sat down and waited for X to come as he yelled, “I’m over here!”

The vigorous crunching of undergrowth announced his friend’s arrival.

X was very noticeable among the greens and browns of the forest surrounding them. Sure, there were also some bright fruits here and there, but the yellow ones were mostly scattered and X wasn't too good at blending in.

Well, to be fair, neither was Four. But they could grow more bluebells to disguise himself whereas X didn't have that much power..

"Four?" X said, confused. His tail thudded on the ground, which it did when he was agitated. "What's that? And why aren't you at Jade Mountain?"

"Can't a demigod explore a little?" Four slightly joked, setting the dragonet down in the same patch of scorched leaves and grass. "I just thought I'd get some fresh air for a bit. No biggie."

"But... wait, why hasn't Two brought you back yet?" X suddenly said, sitting down too as he walked over, appearing to not have noticed the dragonet just yet.

"I... don't think they can do that," Four replied, glancing at the greenery. Two... possibly the worst of the demigods. Well, Nine was annoying, too, sometimes, but Two was pretty competitive if they didn't get what they wanted. And irritating, especially because they were so charismatic.

"Hey, wait a minute," X then added, glancing at the dragonet. "What's that? And why is it glowing? Can I touch it?"

"Wait, X, no- you can't touch f-" Four began but it was too late. As soon as X's talon brushed the dragonet's scales they let out a loud gasp that could have woken the whole rainforest, and clutched it in pain.

"Ouch!" he said. Luckily, there was no mark, but it definitely hurt, given the expression on X's face. Also, Four could easily read his mind.

"Are you all right?" Four asked, inspecting the talon.

"I'm fine," X said. "Is that a firescales dragon?"

"I- yes. How did you know."

X explained, "I read about them before. The scrolls say their scales are more than twice as hot as normal fire! I wouldn't know. But this fire definitely hurt more. I- ow. It still hurts. Do you have any healy thingies?"

"No, but there should be a river nearby," Four replied. "It is a rainforest after all."

The dragonet in talon, the two of them walked over to where the nearest trickle of water was coming from. Leaves crunched beneath their talons, and Four now was a little concerned one of the demigods would find them. It's not like they can hurt me that much. Hang on a second, why was X allowed to go down?

He was just about to ask his friend this. But when they arrived at the stream, one of the more noticeable rocks was green. And dragon-shaped.

Oh, no.

Two turned around to see them. "Uh, hello?"

Chapter Two: Two[]

The main thing Two was confused about was the dragonet in Four’s talons.

Sure, they should probably be mad that he and X weren’t at Jade Mountain, but could they blame them? Two wasn’t there either, after all. Besides, they were too curious about the small dragon.

it had begun to squeak in the silence that followed Two’s words. It emitted an odd glow, making the scales where Four was holding it a slight purple colour, and smoke seemed to be rising from its own scales. It must have been a… what were they called again? A firescales?

Either way, it was strange.

After a few moments of nothing, Two decided to break the silence. "So, uh. What is that?" They glared at the dragonet - if the others saw it, they'd freak out and quite possibly kill it.

"A dragonet," Four replied in his annoying voice. In Two's opinion, theirs was much better-sounding compared to his. And X's. Though they liked X more.

"I can see that, idiot," Two snapped. "But what... why? Why do you have it? Are you going to try and smuggle it in to Jade Mountain?"

"Well, no," Four said, clearly hesitant.

"Don't lie to me," Two growled. "What else can you do with it? Throw it in the water?"

At the mention of this, the dragonet let out a squeak of fear and wriggled around in Four's talons. Four clutched it tighter.

"No!" they snapped. "I'm thinking of keeping it. And naming it."

"That's dumb," Two said, but Four talked over them.

"I'm thinking Fire," Four said to X. "What do you think about that?"

X opened their mouth, but Two interrupted them. "Well, if you're gonna name it, at least name it something catchy. Something like... hmm." Two walked over to the dragonet and inspected it, then lifted a talon. "Something like Fire-EEE!" They let out a yelp as they poked it and their talon burned. They stumbled back, to the river, and dipped it in.

"Oh! That's what we were here for again." X waddled over to the stream and also dipped his talon in.

"Firey?" Four said with a snort. "Seriously, Two? Well, if the great Two wants it, then they get it."

Two could tell that he was being sarcastic, but still felt a little surprised that Four actually used something they suggested, even if the name had been called on accident.

"Anyways," Two said. "We should probably get back. And hide that thing." They eyed the dragonet cautiously and hadn't noticed they'd taken a step back until a moment later.

"Of course," said Four, spreading their wings and lifting off into the air. X did the same, and then Two did.

As they flew in the direction of Jade Mountain, Two asked after a moment, "Do you even know what that thing is?"

"What do you mean?" Four glanced back at them for a second.

"Like, is it... does it have gender?"

Four replied, "Of course he does. You know we can tell the difference."

"Right," Two said. "Well, you're the only one who can tell if it- he is genderless or not. Because you're the only one who can come in contact with him! What does it say in his mind?"

"Just... fire," Four replied. "Pretty much nothing."

"Great," Two said. "That's fine. Not like it could grow up one day and kill us all."

"We can't die," Four pointed out. "We can survive even the most gruesome of pain. You know that."

"Yeah, and sometimes I wish we couldn't," Two muttered. They still had a distinct memory of breaking their bones when they were a couple hundred years or so younger. It was not fun.

They kept flying towards the mountain. X and Four talked about random stuff while Two just kind of went along. They weren't really interested in their talk anyway, and the other two likely weren't interested in Two's, either.
