The prince of the Poison Jungle. Quite the title to uphold. Parakeet green cover his body, occasionally dappled by blues and fern greens. Moss greens go across the top of his head, with a paler green around his snout before fading to a deeper green. Leaf green goes down his back and covers the top of his horns. The horns themselves are a brown-cream color, with blotches of light brown dappling them. This is the same color as his talons, with his wing spurs being a silvery-green. He also appears to have quite unnoticeable brown freckles along his snout. A leafy mohawk defines Castanea, it’s lime green in color and is waxy to the touch.
Leaf-shaped spines go down the rest of his back where the mohawk ends, with the membranous parts being the same color as the mohawk itself. The prince’s wings are quite a sight to behold, grandiose and elegant. While the main coloration is the lime green seen everywhere else, faint yellows warm it up in ripples near the tips. Though as one strays further and further away, the summery yellows begin to become more faint when climbing down the edges of his wings. Castanea’s underbelly is a light leaf green and appears to have a fuzzy texture to it. This color has also attached itself to the backs of his legs.
Round scales, like stepping stones in a pond, are scattered across his main scales and come in a few different colors. While mostly choosing to be the same color as the LeafWing’s top most scales, some are fern or mossy greens. These scales typically cluster into pairs of two or three, with some going solo, but there are two main large clusters on his neck and body. Going down to his tail, like all LeafWings, Castanea has a leaf-shaped membrane at the end of his tail. This one is sharper than the rest of his membranes, with the very tip being pointy. A few notches can be seen around the base of the leaflet, something that is similarly seen on his wings.
His build is wiry and rather pathetic looking. He almost appears as though he’s build out of sticks, with anything hinting towards muscles underneath actually being fat. Put it simply, he isn’t built for fighting and likely never will be in the way he’s investing his time. He’s certainly a handsome dragon, with a pointy snout and golden eyes that exude confidence, yet also a one-trick pony. The LeafWing prince’s tail is rather long and often curls at the end, though this is likely a decision made by the LeafWing himself rather than anything else.
He doesn’t drip with jewelry or accessories, but he does have a few. Mostly in the form of four golden earrings. These are clipped in the center most edge of his ears. The first one is triangular in shape, while the one following behind is diamond shaped. Golden bracelets crawl up his hind legs, looking very similar to that of vines, with the leaves being carved into them. He occasionally can be seen with an actual vine wrapped around his tail that he can leafspeak at will. His luster is exceptional, showing that everything is well cared for. He often holds an expression of extreme confidence, matching well with his eyes and general regal appearance.

- prince not-so-charming.
- is absolutely pathetic in every single way, but hey, he's good at leafspeaking!
- enjoy gaining validation from the whole 10 children he instructs. likes being looked up to and being admired, but there isn't really that much to admire about him.
- talks with confidence and an air of self-centeredness. believes himself to be the best leafspeaker ever, and likes to brag about that. while he is indeed a very powerful leafspeaker, he's certainly far from the best.
- very socially confident, but anyone who is older than him finds him annoying because of his self-centeredness. most of these older members just see him as a simple one-trick pony whose wasting his potential.
- spends most of his free-time in the garden designing hedges with his leafspeak. likes morphing them into very complex shapes to impress others.
- only became a leafspeak instructor to gain admiration from the only audience that could stand him: children.
- seems well aware of his flaws, but hides it behind an inflated ego and social confidence. in secretly incredibly dependent on his mother and anyone else who is close to him for support and will crumble without them.
- is used to being coddled and having his hand held throughout life, which is likely why he doesn't act his age.
- doesn't like addressing this, however, and just internalizes it.
- fears the inevitability of him becoming king after his mother passes. mainly because he's never prepared himself for such responsibilities.
- truly believes that if the sapwings don't win the war against the poisonwings before he becomes king, all sapwings will be doomed. genuinely thinks he would makes a terrible king.
- also is incredibly afraid of death and finds of prospect of it terrifying. this anxiety will likely worsen once he's inherited the throne. at least, that's what he believes.
- hates being made fun of and often cries out of anger when this happens.

Castanea isn’t known for much. But perhaps the most well-known thing he’s associated with is being an incredibly powerful leafspeak. This is because he was born to two equally powerful leafspeakers, which has made him one of the most powerful leafspeakers in the kingdom. This would be useful in the war if it weren’t for the fact he has no idea how to utilize it for combat, despite his talent. He’s only ever used it to form seemingly impossible shapes out of hedges in the garden. This has given him quite a… mixed reputation on both sides.
Perhaps the only real reason he hasn’t utilized his leafspeaking for combat is the fact that he’s simply too frail to fight talon-to-talon. It isn’t a secret that Castanea doesn’t know how to fight, with the results almost always ending in his defeat. The only way he can turn the battle in his favor is by catching his opponent off-guard. But even then the results aren’t really in his favor. And it doesn’t seem that weaponizing plants have gotten him too far either.
The LeafWing’s stealth is above average, with his colorations mixing perfectly into the lush jungle background. He typically uses this when playing various stealth-based games and not much else.

- hatched to the current sapwing queen, betula, and colurna, whom died in combat before the prince hatched. betula was stressed from the very beginning, but was just relieved to have a healthy heir. and one with such incredible leafspeak, no less.
- was spoiled and coddled endlessly throughout his dragonethood, something he never objected to, because he liked doing less. in this time, he honed his leafspeak for more... ornamental purposes. since he wasn't trained to fight, he just used his leafspeak in the royal gardens.
- eventually was set for an arranged marriage with an up-and-coming warrior, autumn springs. betula was hoping that, if she married him to someone who was... tougher, that he'd toughen up as well. and also so if he unfortunately perished, there would still be someone competent to run the queendom.
- castanea had other plans, however, as he didn't like his chosen spouse, a sentiment that was returned tenfold. while he tried to connect with her, she always rejected him, constantly berating his incompetence. they basically had no chemistry.
- a few days after they were set to get married, autumn springs disappeared. this upset everyone except castanea, who was just glad he wouldn't be trapped in a loveless marriage with someone who clearly hated him. betula, on the other hand, was terrified, having loss her only son's best suitor.

Castanea is very attached and dependent on his mother, and cares deeply for her well-being. They don't interact as often as they used to due to her needing to attend to queenly duties, but he still enjoys what interactions they do have. She always seems concerned over whether she's being a good mother to him or not, though he doesn't quite understand why she worries about being a neglectful parent, since he's never seen her as such. He still hasn't fully forgiven her for arranging him to marry Autumn Springs, someone he never loved in the first place. He doesn't even know for certain why she agreed to marry him off to this dragon, though he does have a feeling there were some ulterior motives behind it that are just too upsetting for him to think about.

never met him, as he died in the war before castanea hatched. the only things he knows about him are from the stories told by others. mostly betula and some of the generals who were close friends with him. apparently he was a strong and gallant warrior and a powerful leafspeaker. from all the positive things he's heard about his father, he wishes to be like him... but doesn't really think he can live up to his legacy.

Castanea is very... mixed on his opinion on Autumn Springs. While he really did try to make their relationship work when they were first arranged to get married, the two had very little chemistry and didn't try very hard to maintain it. He isn't even sure why he was even infatuated with her in the first place, because most of their actual interactions were stale and awkward. She never smiled in his presence and whenever he tried to impress her with his leafspeaking, all she had to say is how much use it would have on the battlefield. They didn't argue much, for the two weren't really motivated enough to do so, but this was a point of contention between them.
A fear of the battlefield, this was something she, a trained soldier, saw as cowardice, not respecting any of the contributions he said he was parting on to future leafspeakers and, by extension, future soldiers. The two didn't better each other, they just made one another catty and bitter, so it was no surprise when Autumn Springs decided to permanently cut ties with him and leave the SapWing queendom. While he doesn't miss her, he does feel a little... hurt by her leaving. A feeling that he isn't good enough, not just for her, but for love in general, has been imparted on to him. Now he isn't sure what love is.

Honestly, he's just intimidated by Fallen Leaves, as his cold, stoic, and serious demeanor turns him off from ever interacting with him. He also has a sneaking suspicion the LeafWing doesn't like him, as he has made passive-aggressive remarks and jokes at the prince's expense. Though, of course, none of these are done in the presence of the queen, for it is uncouth to mock the queen's son in front of her. He would accuse Fallen Leaves as being one of the contributing factors to the prince's insecurities of being... incompetent and useless. After all, that is what the general is deriving from to fuel these remarks and jokes.
Worst yet was that he is the father of Autumn Springs, Castanea's ex-fiancée, and, as such, was one contributor to orchestrating his arranged, loveless marriage. In general, the prince just avoids interacting with him... or even being in his presence, as after his daughter's escape from the SapWing queendom, he's become more disgruntled and judgmental. He seems to think that Castanea had something to do with it and often subtly accuses him whenever they talk. The prince just wants to tell him that the answer to that question of why she fled lies solely in the mirror. But he'd never the guts to say something so disrespectful to his face.

An enigmatic SilkWing he met at an ambassador party hosted by Queen Betula, Castanea couldn't help but feel charmed by his mysterious aura. And once they began conversing, his sense of humor began to show through as he opened up a little more to the LeafWing prince. He found him very insightful, with the conversation quickly turning more meaningful and intimate the more honest the two became. He's very book-smart, way more so than Castanea could ever hope himself to be, he's also quite science-orientated, but the LeafWing never felt patronized or bored like he does with so many others of that ilk.
The SilkWing seemed to be quite impressed and even a little infatuated by the prince's leafspeaking and as the night drew on, he even started requesting the LeafWing bend different plants into strange shapes. He can't help but feel prideful and honored when he saw the look of awe on Zephyr's face when he so effortlessly bent different plants to his will. He isn't sure if his feelings towards him is... love per say, as he's unfamiliar will feeling a lasting romantic attraction towards another, but this is probably the closest he'll ever get to feeling it. There's a sheer difference between him and Autumn Springs when he compares the two, while Zephyr is an engaging, insightful, intelligent speaker, Autumn Springs is boring, condescending, and shallow while nevertheless also being intelligent... but in a boring way.

There is no easier way to put it. Castanea is terrified of the leader of the PoisonWings. Unnerved by his charisma and casual malice, he sees him as a threat worthy of fearful reverence. Once met him face-to-face, the traumatic day he was kidnapped and taken to the PoisonWing headquarters, and was shocked to see someone so... young. He didn't look much older than himself, and yet he exuded power and respect. He can only wonder how the LeafWing managed to gain such high status for being as young as he was. The only two things he took away from this encounter was one, he never wanted to see Foxglove's face again, and two, when the prince becomes king... the SapWings are doomed.
