appearance

Buttercup is smaller then the average SilkWing. She has short legs but a long tail that twitches when she's angry. She's a bit chubby as she spends a quite a lot of her time writing. Despite her chubbiness, she's quite strong from working on the construction of the Hives.

Her scales are in shades of yellow and orange. With her head and limbs being a bright buttercup yellow. Her underbelly is a pale yellow color that fades to an orange around her tail.

Buttercup's antennae are are a shade of yellow, similar to a lemon color. Her horns and talons are pale yellow. The spikes that run along her spine are in similar coloration to iced tea.

Her wings are very pale yellow, with swirling designs in a shade lighter then her wings. Her eyes are also a light yellow color with the pupils being a very dark green.

She doesn't usually wear accessories, as she doesn't like the restriction they cause. But, she'll sometimes wear a worn, light green apron while she's tending to her gardens.

personality

If you could only describe Buttercup in one word, it'd be outspoken. She hates the fact that her Tribe is practically enslaved by the HiveWings and she writes essays speaking out against it. They are submitted under the name of one of her HiveWing friends.

She's quite loud and can have a bit of a temper when it comes to something she believes in firmly. She's quite loyal and protective of her friends, willing to go to great lengths to see them safe.

Buttercup is also quite trustworthy, but break her trust and she'll cut you off forever.

history

Buttercup was an orphan.

She grew up in a small, SilkWing orphanage in Wasp Hive. Cared for by a kind old SilkWing named Whim. She was taught, along with all the other orphans, how to be a quiet, submissive SilkWing. Oblivious to their teaching, Buttercup often spent the lessons daydreaming about when she could finally have wings. Even if she was paying attention, it's unlikely Buttercup would have become what they had wanted.

Because she never really paid attention in class, Buttercup often had detention and was sent to work on construction several times throughout her time at school and the orphanage.

In the few classes Buttercup actually payed attention in, she excelled. She was like a sponge, soaking up any knowledge she could get her talons on. She loved learning about verbs and nouns and how to use them. She quite liked the feeling of accomplishment when she got a good grade after working hard. She liked learning about numbers and how they came to be, and also how to use them. Because she had almost perfect grades in these subjects, Buttercup was almost certain to have a job at Mantis Hive.

At the age of six, she went through Metamorphosis and grew her wings. She was absolutely ecstatic that she could fly, and practiced whenever she could escape the scrutinizing glare of the HiveWings. She would often go out onto the savanna to swoop and dive through the tall grass. Buttercup loved the feeling of the wind on her wings.

Soon after, Buttercup was transferred to Mantis Hive. There she picked up an accounting job under Lady Mantis. She loved her job but often hated that she was treated higher then the other SilkWings since she was in a higher position closer to Lady Mantis. Nonetheless, she quickly made many friends. Among those were: two SilkWings named Mulberry and Eri; and a HiveWing, Caddis.

Through Eri, she stumbled upon the Chrysalis and joined very quickly.

She started writing out against the SilkWing enslavement about a month after transferring to Mantis Hive and seeing the conditions there. She published her essays under the name of her friend, Caddis. Who was a government official for the HiveWings, and therefore not as likely to get in as much trouble as Buttercup would if she published them under her own name.
