Blue ice.

A prophecy. Shattering. A leap of faith.

The shards of a heart of ice holding the five together.

And the last stand of a Tribe long forgotten.

This is a fanfic that consists of the canon Tribes and my wacky Fantribe (eek is that what they're called? Please forgib TnT) that I haven't made a blog post for yet (they're called WillowWings).

(The next few paragraphs until the Winglets are very complicated and about the AU this takes place in.)

It takes place in an AU where NightWings (and NightWing hybrids) can pass on their moonborn abilities by two generations, but if it's twice or thrice moonborn, the powers will weaken, and thrice would lead to twice moonborn over the generations and twice would lead to once moonborn. If a dragon's children and grandchildren don't have the power from blood it won't go any farther until a NightWing of that bloodline has moonborn abilities again. If a dragonet hatches under three moons on the Brightest Night, any moonborn abilities from blood will not be added to its abilities, and if hatched under two full moons then their power will only be a little stronger. The only way for a dragon to have thrice-moonborn power is to hatch under the moons on the Brightest Night. The only way for a hybrid to have moonborn abilities is if its parent or grandparent had moonborn abilities too.

It is impossible for a hybrid to have mixed abilities from two different breath weapons. Venomous fire/frostbreath are impossible- steambreath is almost impossible, and the only way to breathe smoke, mist, or fog is to be a *SPOILERS* or a *SPOILERS* hybrid. Some dragons have an ability called "Mesmerism" that makes them easily forgotten and, in their presence, some dragons can do things against their own will. Some dragons will have NightWing names or randomly have colors from a different tribe, but those odd ones and hybrids aren't as ridiculed as the Tribes are a bit more lax about their borders (except for the WillowWings bc they're a bit shy), although some dragons will happily kill a dragon from a different tribe to defend their own or because of personal reasons. IceWings are still a little rough around the edges since they are a little more tight with their rules and borders. They're mostly the same, but a war won't break out because of a disagreement about trade, borders, etc.

Winglets (Written by an anonymous dragon)[]

Willow Winglet

SEAWING: Jay- Seafoam-green main scales, dark blue underscales, wing membranes, horns, and claws, as well as dark indigo eyes that are almost raven black. Hybrid- mostly SeaWing but has IceWing blood as well, can withstand cold a little better than the usual SeaWing but only other tribal abilities are breathing underwater and swift swimming.

SKYWING: Snow- White scales, pale blue wing membranes and underscales, etc. as well as gold eyes. Can breathe blue smoke, but that's considered one of his oddities. Possesses a strange secret...

MUDWING: Dragonfruit- Vibrantly pink-red wing membranes on the undersides, as well as blue eyes, underscales are dark green and main scales are a dark amber. Hybrid, Mud/Rain hybrid. Can't breathe fire or shoot venom. Bigwings is Schmutz.

ICEWING: Skylar- Sky-blue scales, white wings, underscales, horns, and claws, as well as odd forest-green eyes.

SANDWING: Schmutz- Amber main scales, wings, underscales, etc. are sand-colored, and eyes are an odd green. Dad's only WoF OC I know of. Bigwings.

RAINWING: Scribble- Black wing membranes, underscales, etc. with bright blue main scales, eyes are the only things that change color and this scrawny dragon has a lot of different feelings happening at the same time- or maybe he just can't stop changing colors. That'd be an eyesore if he could actually change his scale colors...

NIGHTWING: Reverie- Dark blue scales, gold stars on her wing membranes and winding up her horns, claws, underscales, wing membranes, and horns are mainly the black of pitch-darkness where you cannot even see your talon in front of your face

Pine Winglet

SEAWING: Seashell- Cream glow scales and scales, red-pink claws, wings, underscales, etc. as well as purple eyes. Adoptive sister, Violet, is in the Wind Winglet.

SKYWING: Windflight- Blue scales, light blue eyes, red wing membranes and underscales, night-sky indigo claws, spines, horns, etc. Hybrid, Sky/Night/IceWing. Has frostbreath and weak foresight but nothing else.

MUDWING: Bubble- Pale brown scales, pale blue underscales, wings, horns, etc. and watermint-colored eyes. Is a hybrid, but they won't reveal what kind of hybrid they are. Can breathe orange-tinted "steambreath". Bigwings is Schmutz- don't ask me how they all got together, I don't know.

ICEWING: Pearl- Pale blue main scales, wing membranes are mint-colored as are eyes, underscales, etc. Prefers not to say their tribe and the closest guess anyone has is that they're an IceWing. Seems to have a very big secret, but nobody knows what it is. Breathes pale blue mist.

SANDWING: Flame- Orange scales, red stinger, underscales, wings, etc. and pericing black eyes. Is known to be easily forgotten, and it is theorized they have mesmerism.

RAINWING: Marble- Oftentimes is invisible, but their scales are almost always white when they're not invisible. They have a few gray swirls that appear and disappear like water pooling and evaporating, even when Marble is invisible.

NIGHTWING: Moondust- Bright blue scales, wing membranes are amber with silver stars, horns, underscales, etc. are amber, tail barb is the same as wing membranes, and she wears a black bag around her neck on a chain. Hybrid, mostly NightWing but has SandWing blood as well. Schmutz's cousin.

Wind Winglet

SEAWING: Violet- Indigo glow scales, violet main scales, and blue underscales, claws, etc. Seashell's adoptive sister, but is much younger and far less responsible. Has royal glow scales on her wings, but she doesn't know what they mean.

SKYWING: Copper- Red main scales and orange wing membranes, claws, and underscales, etc. and copper eyes. Fire is copper-colored.

MUDWING: Marshy- White main scales, pale blue eyes, mint underscales, horns, wings, etc. Seems to have a big secret, and breathes white steam. Nose is a bit more narrow than your usual MudWing, and they seem to be keeping a big secret.

ICEWING: Halfmoon- Icy-blue scales, and white underscales, wings, horns, etc. Dark blue eyes, and one of her horns is pitch black for some inexplicable reason.

SANDWING: Gale- Darker scales than usual for a SandWing, and black wings, barb, claws, etc. Pale blue eyes.

RAINWING: Seafoam- Scales and eyes are usually somewhere in a range of which the main colors consist of blue-gray, teal, dark blue, sea-glass green, and pale teal.

NIGHTWING: Impossible- Blue feathers, claws, underscales, etc. and purple eyes. Black main scales. She has wings, and she claims it's because "some animus enchanted [her] egg by accident."

Shadow Winglet

SEAWING: Palm- Green main scales and dark blue wings, underscales, etc. Eyes are the same shade of dark blue.

SKYWING: Gildedwing- Orange main scales, red claws, wing membranes, and horns, gold underscales and gold markings on their wings. Copper eyes.

MUDWING: Lantern- Dim yellow scales with red-brown wings, underscales, etc. and flame-colored eyes. Fire is gold-tinted.

ICEWING: Everfrost- Greenish-blue sea-colored underscales, wings, claws, etc. White scales that have a tint of aqua to them. Their eyes and horns are a purple-and-blue gradient.

SANDWING: Bluedust- Light cornflower blue main scales with very pale blue underscales, wings, etc. Opal-tinted mint eyes, and breathes blue smoke. Seems to have a big secret...

RAINWING: Bright- Usually is any shade of blue, and has an unchangeable silver star on her chest.

NIGHTWING: Nightseer- A black NightWing, whose underscales, claws, wings, etc. are midnight blue, but very hard to tell apart from their dark main scales. Eyes are purple, and they have purple-tinted silver teardrop scales next to each eye, telegraphing that they can read minds.

Part One- Prophecy of Ice (Everfrost)[]

Everfrost has been ridiculed for having SeaWing-like underscales. When she discovers a note from an anonymous dragon with a prophecy on it, she begins to wonder if the WillowWings from myths are real... and if impossibility is really an option.

Prologue- Last Battle (Mistshade)[]

She dug her claws into the wings of her enemy, a little bit of fog rolling from her jaws and partially hiding her as she darted to the SkyWing's other side. She darted in to bite their tail when a flash of brown pinned her to the ground. Traitor! She thought when she saw the hybrid's pale blue underbelly. She reached up to claw the dragon's stomach when smoke poured from somewhere in the air.

The haze parted a little where a dragon plummeted from the sky. She wiggled out from under the hybrid, who had frozen in place.

"Mistshade."

"What are you doing here, Bluedust? Shouldn't you be back at your precious Blue Academy? Dancing in a circle with all your little friends?" Mistshade spat, her tail stirring the mist where the battle lay frozen behind her.

"I'm sorry." the blue dragon lifted a talon, and in one swift movement, the battle was gone, only black mist and snarls were left.

Everfrost... a voice called to someone beside her.

Bluedust... another voice. They were picking dragons.

Seafoam... a voice called to her, her alone, but it said the wrong name.

"I'm Mistshade!" she cried, but it didn't seem to matter.

Seafoam... Seafoam...

Welcome to Blue Academy.

Chapter One- Memory[]

"Everfrost... do you remember what happened before we were here? Like, how we got here?"

Everfrost looked over at Seafoam, her friend but not her Clawmate. "No...?"

"I keep having this weird dream. Where a voice called my name..." she looked up at the cave roof, where the sun was just about to leave the room lightless until sundown. "We should go to Abilities and Science now."

Everfrost looked at her friend and shook her head in exasperation, but still followed Seafoam's excellent sense of time and got up from her lunch-space.
