They hardly remember anything about their former life- only bits and pieces of a loveless life, an empty one, with no meaning at all. They were hatched to a mother, a father. Biologically female, but not female in the head. Everything about their life was just WRONG.
They grew up as a normal dragonet. They went to school with dragonets- they got bullied. Everyone does. But nobody really cared, did they?
They were quiet. "Haha! Momma doesn't care 'bout you, does she?" They laughed and laughed at Azriel. It was true, though. Mother never cared about her dragonet- even if she pretended to. Momma's a good liar, Azriel though, picking up a red crayon.
Blood, they drew blood, spilling from the lifeless bodies under them, they were on top- it was revenge for what they had done to Azriel.
Their sixth hatching day came too soon. There revenge was only an idea, lingering in their head like a bright, blaring siren. It was telling them that they needed to pull over- they needed to acknowledge it. So they went over the plan. And again, and again, until they realized it wasn't possible.
At least, it wasn't possible yet. Dawnhunter and Ultraviolet had some big beef with Azriel's uncle- who was identicle twins with their father- and they accidently took their mother and father. He couldn't believe it- staring at the bodies in disbelief, Dawnhunter figured out that he took the wrong dragons.
Azriel, however? Oh, they didn't cry. They looked at the limp silhouettes with a sharp grin on their face. They were free now. So like any free dragon, they turned away, trying to set off. But they were stopped by the voices, the voices in their head telling them to stay just a little longer.
But on Dawnhunter's end, killing the wrong dragons meant they had a dragonet to deal with. "Come on, she's just a little kid. Maybe we can take her back. There's no need to kill her- she might be helpful." Violet reasoned to the stubborn Dawnhunter. He reluctantly agreed, allowing the hybrid to stay with them.
He got attached. They all got attached to Azriel. They were so helpful, obiedient. All of the BloodClaws did wonder why they were like that. The truth was simple: they felt loved and they didn't want to mess anything up. So they continued. They climbed up the ranks, from a measely little theif to a top-ranked unit leader.
Their favorite mission- the one that brought them justice- was not too long before their sudden promotion to a unit leader. It was taking revenge on a group of dragons. Dawnhunter had caught wind of Azriel's trauma caused by the dragons and thought that it was only fit to help his 'child'. And so, they set off, Azriel getting the sweet, horrific revenge that they desired.
But one day, things just clicked in Azriel's head. They finally understood who they were, who they wanted to be.
Ultraviolet was sitting there, talking to the dragonet. "Vi." Azriel meekly said. "You know how I'm a girl?" Violet nodded, looking a tad confused. "I don't wanna be a girl. Or a boy. Or-or anything. I just don't feel like... I don't feel like I have a gender."
Violet laughed. "Of course, kiddo. You're an enby then! Be whatever ya want, as long as you don't turn on us." And then- Azriel knew. They were no longer a she, or a her, nothing was hers. It was theirs, and Azriel was a they, they were them.
Life! Life was now something worth living. They had- and still have- dragons who care about them, one that mentor, teach, love, and train them. They work with the Bloodclaws, albeit the youngest dragon, as one of most respected dragons in the gang to help them out.
And they'll sacrifice anything to protect their gang- even if it means their life.
