looks like someone's got a spine...
Aracari is slim and sleek. She has a long, elegant neck and moves with graceful certainty, never a step out of place. Her scales have an iridescent sheen because she polishes them every night. She has inlaid each of them with diamonds that she was gifted by the preceding NightWing ruler, Queen Mindful. She has also tipped each of her teeth with iron in an effort to become more deadly, both of these additions making her shimmer even more than she already does.
She is tall and built for running, flying, and agility rather than talon-to-talon combat or brute force. She is lethally beautiful, drawing dragons in with her looks, and often using them and disposing of them however she sees fit. Her wings are long and she has scars all over her body, except for her face and neck.
Although Aracari has color-shifting scales, she normally maintains galaxy blue scales with an ebony black underbelly and accent scales to fit in with the other NightWings as much as she can. Her wing membranes are speckled with silver scales so brilliant that they are nearly blinding.
She has a holster for her dagger around her forearm, a rudimentary, ugly thing that has a steel blade polished and sharpened to perfection. Its leather-wrapped handle remains stained with gore from pasts conquests and battles. She also wears a silver diadem with onyx and diamonds inlaid in it.
personality

Dragons are like onions. They have layers, which you can peel away to reveal a hidden facet of their personality. Most dragons, anyways. Aracari is worse than an onion. She's like an Agatha Christie novel, with twists and turns and obscure clues that at last lead you to a surprising- and oftentimes dark and horrifying- ending.
At first glance, Aracari is charming and civil, if a bit innocent and uneducated. A perfect diplomat, she is a pacifist who believes nothing can be solved by violence. She has a goal to end wars with the other tribes, as she believes that NightWings should remain elusive and seem more wise and educated then the other inhabitants of Pyrrhia. She is patriotic and pure, a dragoness who loves her child and mate dearly. She would never hurt a fly, and is sort of a classic princess figure, who shies away from gruesome things and the hard truth. She is doe-eyed and sees the best in people, even if that person is a murderer. She is not intelligent, though with the help of her king she is able to rule the Kingdom of Night with a firm and steady guiding hand. Though this is only a surface, and largely a false one that that, it is reminiscent of Aracari's behavior as a dragonet, when she saw the world with wide eyes and fell in love quickly and easily. She used to be this carefree, but she now knows that power always, always, comes with a price.
backstory

- aracari's egg gets mixed up in the hatchery, accidentally rolls out
- is born deep in the rainforest; for the first few days ate little lizards that she found on the ground
- NightWing traveler finds her, takes her to an orphanage in the Lost Kingdom of Night
- goes to school with NightWings
- meets nightfall
- meets prince darkness
- darkness takes her home
- queen mother ferocity sees an opportunity, tells her to kill queen mindful
- aracari is hesitant at first, eventually goaded into it

- ferocity begins to play her like a fiddle even though aracari is queen

- was judged because she was a RainWing and an inexperienced ruler
- didn't try to pass any new laws, but lots of dragons were trying to play her like ferocity
- (imagine anne of cleves singing i'm the queen of the castle)
- basically, she wants to be sole ruler (it is a monarchy, after all)

- often kills people on arbitrary charges/hires assassins, sometimes kills them herself if it's personal
- dragons fear her, say hers is a reign of terror.
- feels bad, but thinks it's the only way to keep her queenship safe from the dragons trying to manipulate her
- decides to take a mate because,, like,, unified front n stuff
- people like darkness, thinks it'd be a good fit because people will like her if he does, too
- basically forces him into marriage, but he's still kinda in love with her (?)
