"Have you ever seen the decaying corpse of a dragon being consumed by a giant sundew plant? It's quite the sight. I could think of plenty of horrible ways to die, but that one's pretty high on the list.”

— Anthophobia, chatting with a fellow traveler.

Anthophobia is an adult LeafWing/NightWing hybrid that originates from the Poison Jungle. They are a roaming apothecary that travels between Pantala and Pyrrhia, and they currently reside in the Poison Jungle. It has moderate Leafspeak and can read minds.

Description

Phobia is a slender, lithe LeafWing whose scales melt into the shadows of the dense jungle forestry, with dark overscales lined by a trail of silver dewdrops that glimmer in moonlight. Their underbelly resembles the foggy moss floor of the jungle after a storm. Its wings are slim, fading into darkness much like the rest of its body. If one looks close enough, they can see the faint flecks of stars that reveal their NightWing blood. It also lacks a tail fin and has a few small spikes instead.

Their pistachio-colored eyes have a mischievous glint to them, although to most they come off as sinister instead. Surrounding their eyes are numerous silvery teardrop-shaped scales. Only one is the true mind reader scale.

They speak in a low, silky smooth voice.

Personality

Phobia prefers solitude, only allowing others to interact with them when they feel sociable. It is very secretive and likes to play tricks on others when they try to learn too much about it. Their solitary disposition and occupation as a traveler has made it difficult for them to keep up with friends. They are very knowledgeable when it comes to botany, dragon anatomy, and medicine.

One of the ways Phobia tends to communicate is with floriography. It will influence certain flowers to grow around friends', acquaintances', and enemies' homes as ways of leaving messages when it's nearby. There have been times they intentionally grew harmful plants around the residences of those they despise.

Biography

Not much is known about Anthophobia's early life other than the fact that they were raised primarily by their LeafWing mother, Lantana, taught the customs of the PoisonWings, and studied becoming an apothecary. Although they were trained to one day fight alongside the rest of the PoisonWings against HiveWings, Phobia was raised in isolation and never once visited the PoisonWing village. They chose to observe from the shadows and occasionally help others in trouble. Sometime after it reached seven years old, Phobia traveled to Pyrrhia for the first time.

They use their Leafspeak to easily grow medicinal plants, which allows them to work efficiently and ensures that they don't run out of supplies. It also uses its mind reading to help patients by being able to understand more clearly what their ailments are when they cannot describe them properly. They have a habit of picking apart others' brains using their mind reading, some times to gather information, other times just to mess with dragons.

Anthophobia usually makes trips between their homes in both Pantala and Pyrrhia at least a few times each year. With recent events and the establishment of the LeafSilk Kingdom, Phobia is planning to move to the new Kingdom for more potential business.

Relationships

Lantana

Anthophobia was mostly raised by its mother and as such is a bit closer with her. She taught them most PoisonWing traditions, as well as the different kinds of flora that grows in the Poison Jungle and how to survive in the jungle. Because Phobia has Leafspeak, Lantana also taught them how to talk to plants and influence their growth. They often visit their mother and father in between travels.

As a PoisonWing with quite powerful Leafspeak, Lantana was originally partnered with another strong Leafspeaker and had two dragonets. After her partner died during a mission, she was left heartbroken and alone until she encountered a NightWing explorer named Storyteller. They fell in love, Anthophobia hatched, and Lantana decided to leave the PoisonWing village to keep her family safe. Some LeafWings view her as a traitor, but Phobia believes that her actions were justified since she would have likely been banished for having hybrid offspring anyways.

Storyteller

Although it didn't interact with its father as much, Anthophobia loves Storyteller all the same. He didn't abandon them outright, but rather it was difficult for him to travel all the way to the Poison Jungle and back to the NightWing Volcano. Eventually he officially settled with his partner and dragonet in a remote part of the jungle, and told Phobia stories about the dragons of Pyrrhia and the War of SandWing Succession. Phobia visits him and their mother from time to time during their travels, occasionally bringing trinkets and treats.

Monkshood

Monk, technically being the oldest of Lantana's offspring, likes to tease his sister and half-sibling all the time. He and Phobia often get along when they interact and he sometimes goes with them to visit their parents in the Poison Jungle. He has even started a business near Phobia's home in the new LeafSilk Kingdom.

Balsam

Balsam seems conflicted with her mother and Phobia since she believes that Lantana fell in love too soon after her partner died and pretty much abandoned her and her brother to be raised by the village. Because of this, she has grown to be jealous and spiteful towards Anthophobia. They don't speak to one another, but Phobia feels sorry for her, knowing at least some of what she had gone through.
