(so nobody flips on me, most of this is fake. My future predictions that probably won’t come true. Obviously some of the characters in here are real. This story takes place a few years after everything and all is well in Pantala. Just wanted to let everybody know that)

Prologue

“ALRIGHT! Listen up SilkWings!” Queen Monarch cried.

The tribe looked up at her.

“For such a long time we were soft as caterpillars! We got pushed around by not only Queen Wasp but most of the HiveWing tribe! It’s long due for us to take a rise. Be bold and a fighter. This is our time, SilkWings.” Queen Monarch yells, her voice bouncing off the castle wall. “This is a new era for SilkWings…”

It begins…

I anxiously pace my room. Oh, why did we have to be tough now? I was fine with being a caterpillar. Just not totally okay with Wasp controlling us.

So after everything that happened, Queen Monarch told us we need to become fighters. Since former Queen Wasp was actually evil, not just the othermind controlling her, she was locked away in a dungeon. Now her daughter, Cryptic has ascended the throne. She seems nice, a little evil but nice. I was actually alive during everything. I don’t remember much so I was a little less than one I’m 7 now and just went through my memosphorsis.  , but I very vividly remember the mind controlling. It was awful. The creeping sensation just makes me wanna shake my wings out until it was gone. It made wanna run and hide even if they weren’t coming after me. From what Cricket told me, it was just as awful watching it as being hunted.

“Viridescent!” My mother yells for me from across the house.

I slowly walk out of my room. “Erm, yes mother?” I ask nervously.

“Why are you cowering like a lost baby animal.” She demands.

Mother was nicer before. I think she was in the Chrysalis so she’s always been a little..

“I was thinking.” I mumble.

“THINKING IS FOR HIVEWINGS WHO SPENT MOST OF THEIR LIFE NOT BEING ABLE TO THINK FOR THEMSELVES!” She barks at me.

“Hye, hey. Calm down Silverwashed.” My father, Sawtooth, says gently to my mother. “Now little Viridescent, It’s time for school so can you please go get Cornflower and  Hawkmoth?” He asks me

“Fatherrrr I am totally grown up so I’m not little and yes.” I reply and run off towards their rooms.

Today is my final day at school. Because I got my beautiful wings yesterday, I have my last day then I have to go off for work. Pretty sad.

I knock on both doors and stand a short distance away. I brush a talon over my pale green scales and glance nervously at my cornflower/lavender streaked wings, almost checking if they haven’t gone away yet. It still feels strange to have wings. Both, Cornflower and Hawkmoth have their wings too, seeing as we are triplets. Such a strange occasion for all of us to be in a single egg. Twins are strange enough, but triplets! We haven’t had triplets for thousands and thousands of years so when we hatched, we were met with tons of eyes staring right at us. I’m not sure how we all ended up being together. Cornflower is a huge bookworm and scrollworm but really mean. Usually scrollworms are perceived as friendly and bashful. Hawkmoth and I steer clear away from books and scrolls. Hawkmoth is the best fighter I have ever seen but so shy and mellow. I am bad at fighting and kind. The rest of my tribe can be brutal. Once in a classic bully fight, the bully ‘accidentally’ tore off the other dragonets wings. It was terrifying.

Cornflower comes charging out. “WHAT DID I SAY ABOUT WAKING ME!” She yells.

“Um father told me to come get you.” I say, totally not answering the question because I forgot..

“Argh. I should have the day off because this will probably be my only free day for a long time.” Cornflower growls.

Hawkmoth comes calmly walking out. He is mean but not crazy. “Viridescent, why are you waking me!” He snarls.

“It’s time for school and I was given orders to come collect you.” I answer.

They both grump and we all return to the regular room.

My parents wave us a goodbye and we flutter off towards school. We swoop up and down and laugh. Sometimes we get along.

Within a few minutes we are standing in front of the school building. The other SilkWing dragonets swarm around us. Some of them have wings and some don’t.

I make my way towards the Wings Class. This one teaches us about eggs, dragonets, making your home, and adjusting to your job whether it's the one you wanted or not. Since it’s the last class, it’s just 15 minutes longer than the average class. But other than that it's pretty average.

We are still doing pretty much the same thing we did in the hives but you get to pick your partner and job by the scale of social rate you're on. So if you're like a royal, you get a first pick at everything. I don’t exactly want a partner...I mean I kinda have to but um I will not live with them. I like LeafWing, her name is Cherryblossom. Really pretty. She has nice green scales just completely speckled with black drops and lime colored underbelly and wings. The ruff along her spine is a blush pink. It’s really cool. Very distantly SilkWing. So technically...I will probably still have to partner with a male SilkWing but maybe I can raise them with Cherry.

Blossom was given to the orphanage, so a pair of SilkWings adopted her since it’s her last day as well, she will be attending the Wings Class. I walk in.

I walk down the seeming never-ending hallway. My siblings and I step in the classroom. While they dart in, I slowly step and look around, searching for Cherryblossom and Checkerspot. My best friends. They are both sitting down. Checkerspot got his wings! They are orange with streaks of pure white.

I slowly walk over and sit between them.

Checker starts shaking his wings out and around. “Look at meee! I got my wi-ings!” He grins.

“Me too..” I laugh.

“Oh your wings are beautiful!” Blossom does her signature bright smile.

“Thanks.” I grin sheepishly.

Checkerspot is nice to his friends but straight-up awful to everybody else, including his parents.

The room starts buzzing about how exciting and beautiful their wings are.

“Students! I know you are all excited about your ‘beautiful’ wings but SHUT UP! We are in class here and I will certainly keep you for free time and lunch.” My teacher, Mrs. Reflection, says sharply.

The noise instantly dies down, except for Checkerspot who walks down the aisle.

“Really? Really? I am so afraid of you. An annoying teacher who pokes her nose in everybody’s business. Now, go back to your cheating husband. We all know.” Checkerspot says smoothly as the teacher blows up like a balloon.

“CHECKERSPOT! NOW I WILL MAKE SURE YOU GET THE WORST JOB.YOU WILL BE KEPT IN AND HAVE TO STAY 20 MINUTES AFTER EVERYBODY GETS OUT! NOW I HIGHLY SUGGEST YOU PIPE DOWN!” The teacher screams and I have to pull one of my wings over my mouth to hide my laugh.

“Now! Class, listen up. We will be talking about jobs first!” She says sternly.

After a couple hours of my friends and I passing notes, and the teacher droning on, we finally get our lunch and free time break.

We were so excited to get out we went out the WINDOW! Just crawled through the window, haha. We got our lunch. They have a bunch of plants and stuff and you just pick what you want and sit down.

“I would say the job bit was interesting.” Cherryblossom yawns.

“I didn’t think any bit was interesting.” I groan.

“What do you guys want as jobs?” Checker asks, eating an apple.

“Hmmm maybe being a teacher or a painter.” I shrug..

“Yeah, um you might wanna stop Cornflower.” Cherry says, pointing to where she was terrorizing Creamspot.

“Uhhh, Checker you might wanna help me..” I say. Creamspot is Checker’s younger sister. 2 or 3 years younger I believe.

His eyes flared up and charged towards my sister.

“You gonna cry to your imaginary friend, huh? What is he gonna do? Beat me up?” Corn sneers at Cream.

“I suggest you stop doing that.” Checkerspot warns.

“No, it’s just too much fun.” She tilts her head and smiles.

“Cornflower, stop it! Creamspot is 5 years old. I believe dragons who pick on dragonets younger than them, are weak.” I challenge, a rare burst of anger.

“Oh, so I’m weak? Viridescent, you're the weak, dragonet triplet. How dare you call me weak. I am 10 times the dragon you will ever be.” She comes snout-to-snout with me.

“FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!” The crowd crows.

Suddenly cheers erupt. It takes me a minute to understand what was going on. Checker had fully charged at Cornflower and was currently sinking his teeth into her wing while she shrieks. Then Cornflower kicks Checkerspot enough for him to fly all the way across the grass. Creamspot, who had scrambled away just before the fight, eyes were now wide with fear. Checkerspot seems dazed but gets up. He dizzily lunges at Flower and grabs her arm. But Cornflower is a better fighter...she flips him down over her head and takes her claw. Oh, I can’t watch! As I uncover my eyes I see Cornflower pulling her claw out of his scales. She had made a long, deep scratch along his leg. Suddenly I’m shrieking like a dragonet. Cherryblossom starts to run over and I do the same. Blossom starts to tackle Corn and scream at her.

“Oh, Checker. Are you okay?” I whisper below the screams and shouts.

“I’m ok.” He smiles. “You, Viridescence. Are an angel in a pool of devils.”

“I’m really not.” I reply, smiling back.

“You were the only dragon to come over. Not even Cherryblossom came over.” He answers, a shine in his eyes.

“I’m not sure. Now let’s get you to the infirmary.” I say, and help pick him up.

“Can you walk?” I ask.

He tests his leg but winces, “No. I’m sorry.” Checkspot says, dipping his head.

“It's okay.” I tell him then yell over to Cherry. “C’mon Blossom. Let the brat win, I don’t want you getting hurt.”

She picks herself up, exasperated. Cherryblossom doesn't  have to be told what to do. She silently helps the other side of him and I cast her a smile.

“So why did you get into that fight?” Cherry asks gently.

“Well nobody can pick on my little sister or my friends, no matter how big the size.” He replies firmly.

“But thank you.” I say with a smile. He returns it.

“No problem. It was kinda satisfying to sink my teeth into her! Betcha you always wanted to do that, Viridescence?” Checkerspot asks me.

“Erm, no. When I was a small dragonet, yes but now when it comes to hurting anybody. It stings.” I say hesitantly.

When I was 2-3 years old, I was a nightmare. Just a giant ball of fury and once during my tantrums, I….took out somebody’s eye. My mother’s. She was trying to get me to calm down and I got a claw in there. I won’t go into the gory details but yeah that’s why she hates me. I was frightened to this day, it physically and mentally pains me to see somebody getting hurt. Blossom and Spot already know..

They both nod understandingly.

As we were turning a corner, we run into the principal. Mr. Recluse. He is terrifying. Once he stabbed a student with her flamesilk. The burning kind. That student is now 9 and has burns. Like he was in a fire.

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THE HALL AT THIS HOUR?” He shouts at us.

I shrink back.

“Checkerspot got into a fight with Viridescence’s triplet sister, Cornflower. So we are taking him to the infirmary.” Cherryblossom reports.

“Ah. Good. Always love that violence.” He smiles. “I might insist that I get him taken care of by the nurse.”

“No, no it’s okay.” I say, surprising myself. I usually don’t like to talk in front of authority figures, such as the principal.

“I might insist.” He says an oct louder than before.

“It’s ok guys. Go have fun outside.” He waves towards the hallway we came out.

Within a moment, he is swept away.

We went back outside quietly, hoping nothing would happen to our friend. We sat under the Shady Grove. It’s a bunch of trees that dragonets often sit under in the schoolyard.

“I hope he will be okay.” I say worriedly as we head inside after the bell rings, signaling our free time is over.

“Don’t worry, Virid.” She twines her tail around mine and bumps my hip with hers.

We all head in. It still feels a little strange with wings.

“Will Check be okay?” Creamspot asks me anxiously.

“Well, truth to be told: I’m not exactly certain but I don’t think anything horrible will happen.” I say gently to her, trying to soften the blow.

“Ok, hope so.” She replies and quickly runs off to her class.

Blossom and I take our seats and once everybody has come, she starts droning on about life outside school.

Hours later…

“Where is Checkerspot?” Cherryblossom wonders. “I mean it’s been hours.”

“I’m not sure. Maybe his parents were called and he has his last day tomorrow.” I suggest as we walk out into the sunshine.

“Well, I can’t believe by tomorrow we will have jobs and assigned partners! It’s crazy.” Cherry says, looking into my eyes.

“Hey guys! Wait up!” A familiar voice yells to Blossom and I.

We turn. It’s Checker running towards us?

“Where were you!” I say excitedly.

“Well. I’m going to join the army.” He answers sheepishly.

“WHAT! WHY! YOUR TOTAL GONNA DIE!” Cherry yells at him.

“Well. Apparently a few teachers saw my ‘aggressive’ behavior, sooo they called down Queen Monarch and she told me I just absolutely need to be a soldier so I agreed. I mean it’s well paid and I can be much stronger.” He says simply.

“You could die! What about your partner? Your dragonets?” I say, my eyes wide.

“They would know I died a hero.” Spot says firmly.

I start crying. I can’t help it. “They would know you died a killer.” I fly off.

I hear their gasps behind me but I keep flying home. Father is already home from work.

“Viridesence, I think you're supposed to be at the Congruous.” Father reminds me. “That means becoming.” He adds.

“I know. And I’m going, I’m going.” I say with a grin and fly off.

The Congruous is the place where you find out who your partner will be, where the free spots for homes are, and find out what your job will be.

I land in front of it, wobbling on the webs. Even though I spent most of my life climbing, I’m adjusted to flying.

I step in and it looks exactly the same before. I was here a few years ago when my much older brother, Emperor, came to get his partner and job and home land.

There are 3 sections. One for job. One for where your home will be. One for your partner. There is a caller for each section. As I walk in, everybody is being herded towards the sections. I’m thrown in with the home part. I wait..and wait...and wait.

“VIRIDESCENCE- EAST WING OF THE ROSEWING HOUSING.” The announcer shouts at me. I take a mental note and move on.

Next is my job. As I step into the section, I see the queen Monarch standing there...silkily. If that makes sense. Probably for Checkerspot. Instead, she nods towards the announcer who calls my name.

“VIRIDESCENCE! The queen will like to speak to you.” The announcer frowns.

I move forward, confused.

“Viridescence, I have a special task for you.” She purrs.

“Yes, my queen?” I say, bowing.

“You..will be my personal servant. But not a typical one.” The queen pauses. “You will be doing whatever I ask of you. You will also be catered to but a lowlier subject. You will be doing jobs such as my gossip ear, my waitress, cleaning up after me, watching over my dragonets, and the occasional spying.”

“Ok. But why me?” I ask.

“Well, your young, nonthreatening, and my very distant cousin.” She flicks her tail and glides out of the room before I could get a word in.

I just shrugged and went onto the partner section. Cherry and Checker were waiting patiently in there right beside each other. Cherryblossom will probably be partnered with another adopted LeafWing.

I walk up. “Hey. I’m sorry I exploded, I just...worry.” I explain, embarrassed.

“It’s okay. I understand.” Checerspot says empathetically.

Cherry nods.

“CHERRYBLOSSOM WITH SPRUCE!” The announcer yells. “CHECKERSPOT WITH VIRIDESCENCE!”

My mouth drops open..

The End
