Appearance

For her age, Adira is on the smaller side, with short legs and stocky build. From years of battle and physical exertion, her limbs are packed with hard-earned muscle. Her scales are the color of a cloudless sky, and her underbelly is a pale blue with the slightest hint of gray. She lacks the bioluminescent scales along the underside of her tail, underbelly, and neck that other seawings possess.

Her wing membranes are a slightly paler shade of blue, and stretch across her large, fin-shaped wings. She has grayish-blue eyes, and long, curved talons the color of ash.

Personality

Adira possesses a strong moral compass and the ability to make decisions based on logic and reasoning rather than emotion. This being said, she is very devoted to her friends and wants what is best for them, but knows that she can't let her personal feelings get in the way of the right decision (even when the "right decision" is disputable). She is compassionate and kind, though years of betrayal and hidden secrets have made it difficult for her to trust. She is firmly loyal to those she does trust, and is willing to fight for them no matter the cost.

While she is a skilled warrior and well-respected dragon, Adira doesn't like to think of herself as a leader. In her mind, she is merely a normal dragon trying to make her way and do the right things. She mostly keeps to herself, but is not totally introverted. Around those she's comfortable with, she's outgoing and sociable, and likes attending the lively parties occasionally thrown by her mother and Queen Coral.

Although she acts seemingly stoic and unconcerned in the face of danger or loss, Adira finds it hard to contain her ambiguous and overwhelming emotions. She tries to suppress these feelings and dismiss them, which causes her large amounts of stress. However, the loss and pain she's experienced have helped her move on from the past, and taught her to focus on the future and all its possibilities. Despite this, Adira has a negative outlook on life, and isn't as hopeful or confident as she used to be. Additionally, due to the high amounts of stress and pressure she places on herself, Adira has little patience for the failures of herself or others. She has a bad habit of directing her pent-up anger at other dragons, even when they have done nothing wrong.

History

Canon

Adira was born in the Kingdom of the Sea to Bluegill, a general in the SeaWing army, and Cordelia, a high-ranking noble and close friend of the queen. Because her parents were high-ranking, Adira led a luxurious life as a dragonet, often spending her time playing with the SeaWing princes when her parents weren't around. She became good friends with Orca, whom Adira looked up to until the young princess's death.

While her dragonethood was nothing exceptional, Adira's life changed after the hatching of her sister, Lyra, and her father's death at the talons of MudWing soldiers. Adira fled the SeaWing Kingdom, despite the protests of Cordelia. She spent nearly two moons wandering around Pyrrhia, looking for somewhere to start a new life. Along the way she stopped in Possibility, coming across a MudWing named Fen and a SkyWing named Rhodonite. At first Adira was mistrusting of them, especially Fen, because she had begun to hate MudWings following the death of Bluegill. However, after spending a few days with them, she realized that both dragons were not like the other SkyWings and MudWings Adira had known. Neither of them wanted anything to do with the war, and they were the opposite of violent and bloodthirsty. Adira settled in with them quickly, and the three became very close over the period of nearly a year. Throughout the year they spent together, Adira made infrequent visits to the SeaWing Kingdom to check on her mother and younger sister, but she never stayed for more than a few days.

Finally, a few days after her eighth birthday, Adira decided to return home. Saying her goodbyes to Fen and Rhodonite, and promising that she'd see them again, she flew to the Kingdom of the Sea, not knowing what to expect. When she arrived, her mother's close companion, Brine, updated her on the latest war-related incidents, but Cordelia was not present anywhere Adira looked. When she asked about her mother, Brine informed her that Cordelia had flown to the MudWing Kingdom for a few days, along with Queen Coral, to negotiate with Moorhen. Frustrated, Adira tried to resist the temptation to return to Possibility by spending time with Lyra and Brine, but she felt herself missing Fen and Rhodonite more than ever.

When Cordelia returned a few days later, Adira talked with her mother for a long time about her experience in Possibility and the new friends she had made. Cordelia was disapproving of Adira's close friendship with Rhodonite and Fen, chastising her for trusting a MudWing after what had happened to her father, but she allowed Adira's visits to Possibility and the close-knit bond between her and the two other dragons.

Non-Canon (Star Wars AU)

  • was discovered at a young age by the Jedi and taken to the Temple
  • grew up and trained to be a Jedi under the guidance of the council
  • received a master and became a padawan
  • on one of her missions, she met Maple and Saguaro
  • they helped her complete her mission and they became her friends along the way

Relationships

Cordelia: Adira has looked up to her mother as long as she can remember. Cordelia has always been a guiding force in Adira's life, and a refuge for her when she was unsure or overwhelmed. She regrets leaving her mother to forge a new life, but doesn't regret meeting and becoming friends with Fen and Rhodonite. Although Cordelia and Adira have had their fair share of disagreements, they are very close and support each other in everything to do. Cordelia is incredibly proud of her daughter, and Adira respects her mother and believes her to be the prettiest and most intelligent SeaWing in Pyrrhia.

Lyra: Adira loves her younger sister and was happy to be a part of her upbringing. She taught Lyra many things as a dragonet, such as hunting, fighting, and academics. Lyra and Adira share a close bond, and Adira is incredibly protective of her sister.

Bluegill: Adira didn't know her father as well as she wished she had, but she always loved the times he was around.

Saguaro: Saguaro was one of the many dragons Adira met during her time in Possibility. As a former resident of the Scorpion Den, he taught her many survival skills, and his humorous personality and witty jokes entertained Adira. They became close friends, and Adira came to regard him as a father figure. It was her who introduced him to Maple, who, unbeknownst to any of them, would become Saguaro's beloved significant other.

Trivia

- she wields two lightsabers (one is green, one is blue)

- the lack of bioluminescent scales on her neck, stomach, and tail weren't planned, that's just how I drew her to begin with and the design stuck
