I N T R O

"Duck!" Achelous screeched, tucking her wings close to her chest. She began free falling through the air, narrowly missing the hunting net that would have encompassed her had she still been flying a bit higher. "Bloody-!" a shout came from above her, and she snapped her wings open to slow her descent. Ascidians barrelled past her in the air, his wings tangled in the net. "That idiot," Achelous sighed. Ascidians disappeared into the ocean below with a splash. Achelous dove after him, plunging into the raging sea below. Ascidians swam up to her, already free. He flashed his scales at her, saying Hurry, let's find the Lion's Mane before Ambience's goons figure out where we are. Achelous flashed back, and they both set off west, using their webbed talons and tails to power themselves through the water. A faint splashing sound could be heard, and the two SeaWings flashed back and forth frantically, increasing their pace. Suddenly the water became darker, and their night vision kicked in, revealing an enormous jellyfish moving lazily through open water. Ascidians handed Achelous the hunting net, and together they coaxed the jellyfish into a nearby cave. Achelous pushed a large sunken stone over the opening, sealing it. Ascidians was swimming nearby, and flashed his scales quickly. They're here. Let's get going. Achelous followed him into deeper waters, hiding around rock formations for the Algae Cluster to come. Hope this time we don't lose someone. Ascidians flashed. Achelous gave him a dirty look, silencing him with a flick of her tail as two burly SeaWings swam into view. She flexed her claws, getting ready for yet another altercation with her stepfather's gang.

Achelous is a tall SeaWing, with a thin, angular frame and proud stance. Her legs are long and lean, and her wings are described as being "too large for her body". This causes her to have some trouble with flight power. Her tail is long and skinny, with a whip-like tip. Her claws are curved like little moon crescents, and she has multiple holes in her webbing. Her chin tendrils are short and fat, like little raindrops hanging off her jaw. Achelous has very short and stubby horns and spines, like an undeveloped dragonet. Her horns, claws, and web spines are all the same dull color of blue-grey. Her underscales are a lavender purple, accented with violet stripes lining each scale. Her mainscales are a deep turquoise, with darker teal stripes and triangle designs. She has a singular cerulean stripe across her face and snout. Her topscales are a light baby blue, with flecks of black like freckles. The webbing in between her claws and spines is white with darker blue splotches. Achelous' wings are a deep turquoise, with deep blue patterns swirling across them like snail tracks. Her glow scales are a fluorescent key lime green, although she is missing a few glowing patterns on her tail, which causes difficulties in communication. She has dark turquoise markings swirling up from her ankles to her forearms, like ivy vines wrapping around a tree. Her eyes are a very deep blue, with golden flakes in the irises, creating an effect of little galaxies in her gaze. Achelous has a few crooked teeth, and a blue forked tongue. She has a very authoritative aura.

Achelous is a very outspoken and blunt dragon. She's not afraid to speak her mind and put her opinions out there, even if it means losing friends or changing others' view of her. She lives by the motto "If they can't deal with my worst, they don't deserve my best." She's sarcastic almost all of the time, and expresses her love for others with her sarcasm and name-calling. She doesn't know how to communicate her feelings any other way due to mistreatment from her stepfather. She's easily annoyed and drinks coffee to cope with frustration. That being said, she's the only one allowed to insult her friends and family. If anyone else does, she's immediately on the defensive and is extremely protective. She gets hurt when others don't need her help or don't want her protection, but also hates needing help and wanting protection herself. She bottles up most negative feelings such as sorrow and regret, and accidentally spills at the wrong times. She's a bit bossy, and some dragons don't like her for that. Even though Achelous has a lot of behavioral traits that others may find hard to deal with, she thinks she's funny and is secretly stricken when others express their hatred or dislike towards her. Achelous is confident, but may have trouble understanding social cues and reading the room. She's very passionate about her life, and is overall a good friend and a dragon you'd rather have on your team.

H I S T O R Y

Achelous was born in the Deep Palace, with her mother Angler and her father Conch. They lived in a cave embedded in the cliffs surrounding the underwater castle. Angler and Conch were royal gardeners, but preferred to make their home outside of the palace. They raised Achelous there for four years, all the while she would venture out past SeaWing territory to study the aquatic creatures there. Suddenly, a few weeks before Achelous' fifth birthday, Conch went missing in the Royal Gardens. He was found a few days later in the Royal Hatchery, beheaded and left with a note threatening the queen. Queen Coral banished Angler and Achelous after an unknown source convinced her that it was Angler who had murdered her husband and planned to murder the Queen. Achelous and Angler travelled to the oceans bordering the Ice Kingdom and lived there for a year undiscovered. Achelous continued her study of aquatic animals, extending her vast knowledge of the ocean creatures. She also became skilled in healing flesh wounds that her mother gained from constantly cutting herself on the sharp ice. Angler and Achelous began growing aquatic plants to eat, and Achelous was able to grow almost anything her mother gave her. Close to Achelous' sixth birthday, her and her mother went searching for more plants to grow, and returned to their cave to find a young SeaWing resting there. Upon questioning, they learned that he was a year older than Achelous, and that he had escaped Burn's stronghold and flew here, swimming under the water to avoid the Great Ice Wall. Angler decided to take him in, making him Achelous' adoptive brother. He told them his name was Palaemon, and they lived together in the Ice Kingdom oceans for another year. When Achelous was seven, a messenger from the Deep Palace found their home and delivered a scroll to Angler. It was an invitation back to the Sea Kingdom. It said that Queen Coral missed her skills in the gardens, but she would only let them return if Angler agreed to marry one of her sons, Ambience. Against Achelous and Palaemon's wishes, they packed their things and travelled back to the Summer Palace, where Angler was married to Ambience. Right away, Angler's children realized that Ambience was an abusive, rageful dragon who was obsessed with power, and believed his wife wasn't of worth. Achelous and Palaemon spent most of their time away from the Palace to escape their awful stepfather, and during their time away from home, they discovered a large herd of Lion's Mane jellyfish living hidden between underwater cliffs. They seemed to be happy, so everyday Achelous came back to see them, and helped heal the hurt ones and helped them find their food. Soon, Ambience became suspicious of Achelous' disappearance every day and followed her to her secret spot. He noticed the Lion's Manes, and decided to use their stingers to create weapons for the war. Him and his gang began coming back every day to cut off the Lion's Manes stingers and make them into shocking spears. The remaining Lion's Manes scattered around the ocean. Achelous was very upset, and vowed to get revenge for hurting the aquatic creatures. She did some digging and realized that Ambience and his crew have been influencing major decisions by the queen and rigging many things within the palace to their liking. She packed all of her things to go find the missing Lion's Manes to protect them from her stepfather, and she took Palaemon with her. Ambience and Angler stayed at the Summer Palace, with Ambience plotting to take over the tribe and Angler being none the wiser. Palaemon and Achelous travelled around the continent, making friends and rescuing Lion's Manes along the way. Achelous fell in love with a NightWing named Mordag, who was hatched and raised in Burn's stronghold as a prisoner, whom she met near the edge of the SandWing border after he had kidnapped her best friend. Now, Achelous is living in the Island Palace ruins, plotting to defeat her stepfather with her friend Ascidians while Palaemon is helping the Pantalan refugees.

R E L A T I O N S H I P S

Palaemon: Achelous' foster brother, who showed up randomly one day whilst her and Angler were living in the Ice Kingdom. He is incredibly loyal to them both, and Achelous treats him as if he was her blood. They still bicker and fight like siblings do, but have a very strong bond.

Shiitake: She's one of Achelous' friends from traversing Pyrrhia. They met at the edge of the rainforest, and became fast friends after Achelous helped Shiitake save some of her panthers from a quicksand pit. She learned of Shiitake's curse and helped pick the mushrooms off of her scales, slowing down the curse slightly.

Idiacanthus: She's Achelous' closest friend, whom she met upon her return to the Sea Kingdom. Idiacanthus helped her care for the Lions Manes, but she was kidnapped by a lone NightWing who thought she was a dragon from Burn's Stronghold. Achelous saved her, and Idiacanthus now helps Achelous by trying to reverse the influence Ambience has on the queen from her position as advisor.

Mordag: He's one of Achelous' friends, but Achelous also has a crush on him. They met when Mordag kidnapped Idiacanthus, thinking that she was a dragon from Burn's Stronghold who left him for dead. He apologized and tried to return the dark SeaWing when he realized his mistake, and Achelous began travelling with him. He shared her enthusiasm for helping animals and creatures, and eventually Mordag left to find his friends from Burn's Weirdling Tower. Achelous is currently awaiting his return.

Ascidians: He's one of Achelous' friends, whom she also met upon her return to the Sea Kingdom. He's an aspiring SeaWing royal guard with a taste for violence and an odd brain. He left his apprenticeship to help her defeat her stepfather, thinking that the adventure and fights ahead would trump those he'd find at the palace.

Ambience: He's Achelous' and Palaemon's abusive stepfather who is greatly influencing Queen Coral and hurting the Lions Mane jellyfish to make better weapons. He's trying to keep Achelous silent, as he knows the queen has a law against harming any sea creatures for anything other than food. Achelous' greatest enemy.

Angler: She's Achelous' mother and Palaemon's foster mother. She's incredibly calm and gentle towards them both and loves her dragonets very much. She supports them in everything they do, but refuses to listen to them about leaving Ambience.
