an orca story

(so nobody gets mad, all the cousins and stuff in here probably don’t exist. Just throwing it out there.)

Prologue

I swam through the hall, flashing my scales wildly. My princess is hatching! This glorious day has come for my first daughter! I saw other dragons grinning and flashing me a congrats. I already know exactly what her name will be. Orca. Orcas are beautiful and majestic. I still remember that first time I saw one. Mother had let me go on a sunrise swim and I was so excited. My first little bit of freedom. I was swimming happily and then I saw it, the huge orca singing her song. It was amazing.

I snap out of my thoughts the second I enter the egg-shaped Royal Hatchery. I had come in and out of here many times, anxiously. I will care for my daughter unlike the other queens of Pyrrhia. They just seem them as power hungry princesses that would kill you in a heartbeat. Orca probably will when she is older. I will raise my daughter on trust, if you do this they will certainly obey you. I will not lie to my little Orca.

Orca’s egg is covered in cracks. I hold my breath. Gill enters the room. I twine my tail around his and we exchange a hopeful expression. I see Orca’s head pop out. She seems to smile and confidently burst out of her shell. I swoop in and flash her, Welcome little Orca! I know she doesn't understand me quite yet but I hope she does.

So we are deciding on Orca? My husband grins.

Sorry I just- I start but he interrupts me.

It's fine. I like it too. He says and picks our first-born daughter up gently.

Gill was always so good with children..

This is How it Starts

I study myself in the mirror. Hm, I wonder if a ruby and gold necklace would clash with my scales. I lay some against my green scales, nope! I would prefer not to wear any jewelry but apparently my mother thinks nobody will take me seriously. Dragons already respect and fear me. I don’t think one necklace will make a difference. So many rumors float about the SeaWing kingdom about me. Most of them are totally fake.

I heard that she once slashed the another dragon's gills!

Okay maybe some are true. I didn’t necessarily hurt Goldfish though. Everybody just blew the story much out of proportion. Sunfish can totally back me up! So what happened was: Everybody before a couple months ago thought I was a weak jellyfish. So during fighting practice with some other royal dragonets and I, I slashed Goldfish’s gills lightly. Everybody thought I was trying to murder him blah blah. Goldfish is such a jellyfish. Sooo dramatic!

Orca once fought off 3 sharks at 2 years old!

FAKEEE! It was one shark, I was 2. I was getting a snack because I was bored and got into a scuffle with a shark. Now all the sharks stay away from me. I’m 7 now, can bet 5 sharks if I wanted. I am gonna bring Sunfish and Megalodon with me. Mother will be furious! I smiled into the mirror once more and scurried off to the SeaWing Royal Nursery. They are always helping out there. Sweet, really.

After a few minutes of swimming I hurdle over the dragonetgate. Nobody trusts 1 and 2 year old dragonets to not leave the room. Barnacle comes waddling over to me. He hatched just a few months ago. He is my favorite. He says a little twin sister who was in the egg with him, Bubbles. I do not like any threat to my throne so therefore I dislike all my female cousins with a MASSIVE streak of passion. I haven’t got any little sisters yet so that’s good. Good thing I don’t have any pesky aunts to take away my crown.

“There’s my little Barnacle!” I cry and pick him up.

“Der’s my be Ora!” He says excitedly. He hasn’t been able to speak properly yet.

“Orca!” Bubbles smiles widely at me. I glare at her.

“Hello big cousin.” Says Azure. Oldest out of all the 2 year olds.Just a few days away from 3. Therefore the smartest out of them. Of course I am much smarter but if anybody would take my rightful throne, it’s her.

“Go play with some seaweed, you sea slug.” I growl quietly at her. Azure sulks.

“Orca!” Megalodon and Sunfish grin.

“Mega, Sun”! I say back, putting Barnacle down.

“Time for another one of my mother’s boring parties. PLEASE SAY YOU WILL COME!” I beg.

“Yep!” Megla agrees.

“Anything.” Sunfish assures.

I toss Meglaodon some earrings and Sunfish a pair of pearls. Identical the ones looped around my horns and neck.

We walk down the hall for what seems like forever and FINALLY end up in the ballroom. An abundant amount of dragons are already there. TONS! I notice my mother notice me and works her way over.

“Orca. I see you brought Megladonoon and Sunfish with you. How nice.” She forced a smile.

They both waved politely.

I grinned. I couldn’t help it. It was so fun to see her upset. Many think I will kill her soon since I’m 7 and all so I should be a lot nicer. What’s the point though. She’ll just be dead soon.

I looked around the room. Many of my statues were around. Everything thinks I carve them myself but why should I when I have animus magic?

“Well, princess. I am doing a speech soon so stay close.” The words looked sour on my mother’s tongue.

“What's up with her?” Megladonoon rolls his eyes.

“Just sour.” I reply in a sugar sweet tone.

After 15 minutes of mingling and socializing, Queen Coral’s voice spread across the room like a blanket. Her words bouncing off the walls.

“Hello SeaWings! I have a very special surprise for all of you.” She smiles and waves Gill up. “Just a few nights ago, I laid my eggs. There are 3 girls and 1 boy.”

My mouth dropped open. 3 more little royal females to take MY crown! I will not have it. My mouth curls into a sneer. “Congratulations, mother.” I fake being happy.

I shall make a new statue. A very special statue. I will wait until mother gets very close to them before I strike. I turn to leave.

“Where are you going, Orca? Everything okay?” She seemed worried.

“I’m gonna go make a special statue for my little siblings.” I grin and hug her.

After a few minutes of furiously swimming, I find my working room. I close the door and lock it. I pick up a piece of seaweed I keep stocked in a jar. Enchant this seaweed to make a beautiful and well-carved statue of myself. I say it in my head for good measure. The statue forms in front of me. Now, I enchant this statue to murder all female dragonets in their egg just a few days before the hatching. Only kill when one guard or none is in there. Murder the egg and or the guard. Not the queen and my father or me and my husband. I think again.

I feel a different presence. Now nobody can stop me. In a few months, the queen and her unhatched heirs will be dead…

Months later, just 2 days until the hatching…

I hum a song as I sweep towards the hatchery. If my plan works, my mother will be dead along with her heirs. I think a day after the mysterious death, I will challenge Queen Coral. I’m not a monster! I will give her a day to grieve then fight! These few months have been fantastic. Mother has already named her 4 dragonets. For the girls: Capricorn, Whitewash, and Seaglass. For the boy: Angler. She didn’t try much for Angler. Maybe once when I have dragonets, I will name them after Capricorn, Whitewash, Seaglass, and Angler because those are quite good names. Perhaps. Mother already adores them.

But I hate them. I just see them at blood thirsty, power hungry princesses who will most likely murder me!

Mother loved the statue and like I had asked, placed it in the Royal Hatchery. She was thrilled that I had taken an even bigger shine to my sisters.

I notice my mother exiting. “Oh, Orca! As much as I love you, I just can’t wait for my new dragonets! Especially the girls. This is such a special occasion.”

“I am equally ecstatic. I have always wanted siblings!” I squeal, acting.

“I know, I know. Now I have to go.” Mother tells me.

I wave. I walk into the Hatchery. No blood yet. I am confident this will work out. Animus magic is never wrong. As I requested, Sunfish is guarding the eggs. I want her to die. She is the only one who will stop me and ever since Megladonoon and her got married, she has been so pesky. I pretend Sunfish is my friend. Sunfish herself is expecting eggs and is due to lay them in a week. Just enough time for her to still work and have time to get slaughtered by a statue. HA! Jokes on her. Megla will be DEVASTATED to not only losing his wife, but his unlaid eggs. Both of them are hyper. I think they were talking about how Filter and Seastreak are good names.

“Sun!” I cry and hug her.

“Hello! I love that the queen and general trust me enough to guard their eggs! Speaking of eggs, I mean so excited for mine.” She speaks fast.

“I know- Argh! I forgot. I told my little cousins I would spend some time with them.” I lied and pretended I forgot.

“Go, go be with them.” She urges and says bye. I paste a huge grin on my face as well and waltz out.

No way in a thousand fish would I hang out with them. What I really want to do is enchant an object to murder all my female cousins.

I duck into my study room. I command you to kill all my female cousins when they are by themselves. Now, be invisible to all eyes except me. When you are done go into the deepest abyss, never to be seen again. I say inside my head. The sharp knife darts off toward Shimmer’s bedroom. Grand. A few minutes later I hear a Phyrria- rattling roar. I'd know my mother's roar anywhere

I start flying towards the hatchery. Pretending to be frightened. "Mother! Mother?" I ask, panicked.

"My dragonets are dead." She whispers, her face drenched in tears.

I don't feel one bit bad. I'm just doing myself a favor, aren't I? I'm tempted to throw down the challenge right now but I will not be a monster. I give her until tomorrow morning. Then she WILL meet her doom.

The next morning

I wake up, grinning. I don't bother to put on any jewels since they will just get damaged anyways. I take my time walking down the hall. I'm smiling ear to ear. Almost to mother's precious throne room. I can practically imagine myself in that crown! Sitting on that throne. Ah, perfect. I'm here!

"Mother! Greetings, morning." I smile sweetly, dipping my head.

"Hello, Orca. How nice to see you." Mother's voice seemed so depressed but with a tinge of happiness.

"So, let's skip the appertizers and just get to the main course." I say

"Ok...?" She asks confused. I can feel mother just thinking this is it.

"I challenge you for the royal and crown and throne of the SeaWings." I say calmly and casually, as if this was an everyday thing.

"I accept." Mother snarls.

20 minutes later we are in the arena. People in the tribe everywhere.

I didn't wait for mother to give the cue. I leapt at my own flesh and blood. Sunk my teeth into her arm and managed a rip in her wing before I was flung across the arena. I gasp for breath. I can't be done this quickly! I get up and charge but mother is ready...she makes a huge stab at my chest. I'm on the ground, dying. I did it all wrong.

"Good job, Mother. You win. Now you can be queen forever..."
