made for this competition! prompt was at sea, a map, and three rainwings.
This fanfiction is placed a couple hundred years after Darkstalker's downfall (the first one).
It was warm outside, warmer than even the hottest day of summer. The sea was glittering as the afternoon sun shone upon it. Waves were splashing all around the beach, refreshing and cold to the touch, a good break from this heatwave of a day. Three young dragons, all RainWings, sat down under the sun and absorbed the great heat and warmth. One of them had fallen asleep over time, another had wandered off.
The three were all close friends, as close as close could get, and they all decided to go on an adventure, an adventure that would be the greatest one of their lives. They had been eager to go, wondering what amazing things could await them.
They had landed on a medium sized island, not too far away from the coast, for a place to rest.
The smallest RainWing, named Graceful, was excited, and couldn't stop her tail from twitching. A fun journey with her friends would be just what she needed to get away from the damp, humid, and sticky rainforest. Her dark orange scales turned pink and yellow as she thought about what great things could happen. She nudged the RainWing next to her, a pale blue and green dragon who was snoring his head off. "Breadfruit! Wake up, you lazy sloth," Graceful said, giggling softly. Breadfruit mumbled something and Graceful jabbed him with her claw. "C'mon!" Graceful yelled into his ear. She smiled as her friend sat up, saying, "Okay, fine, I'll get up. You don't have to yell that loud, ya know."
"Yeah, I do!" Graceful chuckled. "Hey, do you know where Fossa went? I could've sworn he was here not too long ago."
Breadfruit shrugged. "I haven't seen him. I just woke up," he said. Graceful gave him an "I-know-that" look, as she started to walk over to the other side of the island. Breadfruit caught up, stumbling over one of his talons as he did so. "You know Fossa. He's probably looking for cool washed up items or something," Breadfruit said to Graceful.
"I guess, but he wouldn't just go off without telling anybody," Graceful sighed. "Okay, he would probably do that."
The island was covered with foliage, a lot of ferns here, a moons-ton of grass there, dotted with trees and a lot of rocks. It took a while to navigate through the thick bushes and plants, though eventually the two RainWings stumbled upon the beach. A deep grey and silver RainWing was sitting on a rock, holding something to their face. It seemed a though it was a scroll, though none of the friends had brought any scrolls with them.
"Fossa! I thought you left us!" Graceful ran up to Fossa, and sat on the large rock beside him. "Hey, what's that?" She pointed to the scroll. It looked pretty beaten up, but the ink was still visible. Fossa shrugged, seeming unsure. "I don't know. There's lines all over this thing. Also, I found it in a glass bottle. Isn't that weird?"
Breadfruit bounded up beside them. "Let me see, maybe I can figure out what it is?" Breadfruit asked Fossa, nodding to the scroll. Fossa taloned him the scroll, and Breadfruit opened it up. He lightly dragged his claw against the faint ink lines, and his eyes lit up. "I know what it is! It's a map!"
"A map? To where?" Graceful asked Breadfruit, curious. Breadfruit's scales turned confused as he glanced at the map again. "It looks like the Bay of a Thousand Scales. I don't know where it leads to exactly, but I say we try to find it."
Fossa's wings had clouds of yellow fading into view. "Sure! But just to be clear, the scroll looks really old. The thing it leads to might not even be there anymore."
"I still say we do it," Graceful piped up, more pink and yellow bursting on her scales. "It'll be just like we said! An adventure, with all three of us!"
"I never said anything against it," Fossa smiled. "But yeah, let's do it."

It was dusky by the time the three had reached even half the way to their destination, all of them tired as tired could get.
