A pleasant mix of her parents Tribes, Vera has a diamond-shaped snout, long horns, a nose spike, soft ears, and large dark eyes. Her smooth scales are a muted sage color with darker plant cells across her body and a few dark green freckles across her snout. Her claws are enforced with hard metal tips for sharper, more cutting edges and also to match the gold ring piercings clipped into her sandy, straw-colored sail. She wears real emeralds studded in each ear that she stole from Princess Tourmaline’s jewelry chest while on a mission in the Sky Kingdom. She walks very elegantly and is very fluid in her movements. She is quite tall, with a sleek and lengthy snout and a long neck. She has a low voice and and smells of warm cinnamon, cool rain, with a dab of burning logs.

While Vera dislikes showing her full self to others, weaknesses and advantages alike, she’s not completely fake and disconnected from the masses. Her surface level traits are deceiving, clever, quick, and smooth and some of her deeper characteristics are shy, curious, warm, and observant. Her mind is not unlike a raging storm, confusing and blurry and shockingly fast. The pace her thoughts run at is incredibly sped up, moving on from observing how that one dragon was inching towards her and what to do if he tried to attack her, then to how her tail tip was too exposed, then to making sure the merchant didn’t look over her shoulder and see the guava Vera stole, then so on. This was just a learned skill from living in such a hazardous environment and dangerous surroundings, helping her to analyze everything that was going around her.

She is very well-known within the circles of con artists, thiefs, other assassins, the Talons Of Power, thugs, the Outclaws, weapon crafters, the black marketers, and even some of the lower ranked solders who formerly worked for Burn. Most dragons immediately see Vera as someone cunning and dangerous. Vera believes that you shouldn't trust everyone you meet. Vera puts work first and maintaining a good public image second. She has a soft spot for Aloe, her pet cheetah cub.

At the end of the day, her favorite thing is to take a nighttime flight, read scrolls, sing to Aloe, or experiment with poisons. Occasionally she also likes to clean or freshen up her living space.

Pre-Hatching

Coyote was an angry SandWing who was, it seemed like, eternally frustrated with life, with all the bad treatment he had gotten throughout his life and all the details that made him . . . imperfect. Byblis was a sharp LeafWing who loved facts and anything to do with understanding things, how this worked and how that worked, picking out all the practical truth in stuff.

Coyote had been raised by two soldiers who worked in Burn’s army and they trained him to be a soldier from a young age just like them, and Byblis was raised as a PoisonWing, aggressive and nasty. They seemed like an unlikely pair, but after meeting in a cafe in the Sanctuary, right after Byblis and her parents had fled to Pyrrhia from Pantala, they knew they were the one for eachother. The dynamic was pretty good and for once, Coyote felt what he had wanted to since he was a young hatchling: perfect. He felt perfect around Byblis, and she felt so wanted around him. It was a win-win, right?

Wrong.

A few months later, Byblis found out she was expecting a dragonet. Her first reaction wasn’t excited, nervous, calm, or the slightest bit thrilled. She was . . . irritated. Irritated that such a little thing could surprise her this hugely and annoyed that this, dragonet, could so easily change her and Coyote’s lives without even trying. Her whole life, Byblis had been trying to make everything fit into its place and understand what was happening around her, and she’d succeeded until this little dragonet came along and ruined that.

On top of being so frustrated, Byblis was scared. She didn’t know how to handle a tiny dragon. She didn’t know how to make a hatchling make sense to her. It was simply nerve-wracking.

She tried to make plans for everything she’d do with the dragonet when it hatched, how it would behave, how it would look, how it would take its first steps. But it didn’t work that way, and to worsen the stress level she was suddenly pushed underneath, it seemed Coyote had suddenly taken an interest in another pretty SandWing. While Byblis tried valiantly to recapture her partner’s attention and avoid telling him about their new egg, a certain dragonet hatched prematurely into a sad future.
