The Heart of Ebony[]
Summary[]
This takes place in two places, basically. Ebony, an island, and the Rainforest.
The Rainforest is stirring with mystery, and Cassia, Balsa and Sprue are willing to escape. They will find about their ancestor, Taro to see what they left behind.
Chapter 0 - Prologue[]
Taro
Taro felt a shiver go through his spine, eyes locked on him. Laughs of the City echoed around him, with dragons betting and shouting. As dragons shouted threats, snakes lunged from leather bags held by gray-and-yellow RainWings with their jaws outstretched, as if to look like the snakes below his feet.
Taro felt a feeling of death crawling through his spine. He knew this was coming. Everyone was basking in his fear. Whispers drifted across the room.
He deserved it, whispered a SandWing.
Really?, hissed a SkyWing, sitting by the SandWing with a puzzled face on.
Yes, hissed a nearby NightWing, eyeing the SkyWing. He deserved it. They sighed, counting their claws on by one of if they had forgotten how many there were.
His head drooped. Why was there so much shame?
The chuckles of amused dragons kept coming from the entrance of the city, with dragons of all tribes watching with sly faces, their claws, tails and fangs raised. He was in a well-secured arena with high, glass walls that shimmered with maliciousness and about 4 brown-and-red bloodstained rattlesnakes approximately, awaiting execution.
He used to live here, safe. His hometown, now, was a death pit to him.
And he needed a plan.
Planning was not his strong suit. He was always agreeing with other's plans, not coming up with him. He wasn't dim-witted, but he didn't have a big brain, to be exact.
So.. he was stuck.
Until you come up with a plan, his brain whispered.
If you can.
He looked around. Could anyone help him? No one liked him.
I'll have to escape myself, then.
He looked around. He realized the snakes were tiny, despite their intimidating fangs. If he could kill them without getting killed himself..
Suddenly an idea hit him. He opened his mouth and touched his fangs.
I could melt them.
When no one was looking, he opened his mouth, revealing his large fangs, and shot venom at the 4 snakes, which were slithering towards him in a group.
The venom easily hit the first two snakes, melting them into a puddle of black goop and scales, and it hit the other two's heads, killing them as well.
The dragons doing this to me didn't think about the prisoners killing the snakes, he thought triumphantly. They weren't all-powerful after all.
As he dodged claws swiping and reaching for him, he whacked everyone with his tail and jumped into the air, flying through the roof and making a hole through it. The balconies shook with roars of anger. Some were already destroyed, with the others doomed to the same fate like the SkyWings standing on them.
He escaped. the last hint of the building passed his eye and he was exposed but hidden by the leafy green trees and all the sloths. Maybe they were someone's sloth.
He still ate one. It tasted like smugness, freedom, and sloth, of course.
He was worthy of something. He could do something now. AS if to agree, a tiger appeared below him from a bush and purred. He lowered down and pet it.
It fell on its side, as if it wanted him to belly-rub him. "Awhh..so cute." It's fur was an orange with black stripes. The belly was white and furry and it's ears were small. It looked cuter and smaller than usual, and Taro realized it was probably just getting out of being a kit.
He can come with me.
He'll be..Puff.
He giggled. He hadn't giggled in a week. Puff was a silly name, but fit the little feline.
He stopped and looked back, trying to see the city. Leaves blocked his already bad vision, but he could see the leafy dome shaking and rustling in the distance. It looked like a big tree or a oversized bush, perhaps.
That is not my home anymore. I am not a fool.
I could live on an island perhaps, there's probably a near copy off this rainforest on one of those. Starlight won't know.
Acceptance won't know.
They can't know. They can't even see. I have to escape.
They'll expose me, me, me me. Then i'll be kicked off The Royal Guard.
Maybe Olinguito will get the job. Maybe his daughter will be honored.
But whatever happens, i have to leave.
Chapter 1 - Job[]
Cassia
Cassia was in her treehouse. She was sitting on a wooden chair and drawing Spruce, humming. She was tapping her dark grey toes and scratching the wooden table, which was a medium-sized square.
