Hi! Another one of my fanfictions! Please do not copy and please do not edit this page. This fanfiction takes place at Jade Mountain Academy about ten years after founded. Thank you!
Prologue[]
Mist knew that there were not supposed to be RainWing-NightWing hybrids- According to Queen Glory, the NightWings were still rebuilding after 6 whole years! But, unfortunately for Her Majesty, MIST FELL IN LOVE WITH A NIGHTWING AND HAD AN EGG, SO HA. She knew it was hatching tonight- she felt it. Her husband had died two years ago, right as she was about to have eggs. This dragonet would never have a father; which made it more important for her to be there. Lucky for her, all the dragons in the RainWing and NightWing village thought that her husband had been one of the captured dragons who had died six years ago. There would be no suspicion, as long as this dragonet didn’t inherit their father’s fire… Mist shook those thoughts off and flew off to her nest.
There it was, in a nest in her tree-top hut. The beautiful silver egg, sitting in the moonlight shining through an open window. Maybe it would be best for one of the first things they see to be their home; the rainforest, Mist thought serenely. She took the egg in her talons and gently carried it outside the nest and outside their hut, into the beautiful rainforest night. Mist loved her hut’s location. It was on the far branch of a tree that reached into a clearing where she could see the starry night sky. It was just outside the RainWing village; only a short flight away to Queen Glory’s palace. Over the years, Glory had made a palace from bamboo. It was absolutely covered with pink flower petals. Suddenly, the egg in Mist’s talons began to crack beneath the one full moon. Excitement filled her head to toe as the small cracks became bigger and bigger. Suddenly, out of the egg came a small dragonet. Her scales were bright orange at first, but she shifted them to black, except the ones on her ruff, spikes, around her eyes and… two silver scales behind her eyes. Beautiful. She is one of the only NightWings who have silver scales, and none of them have powers. Which is good! The small dragonet sneezed, shooting venom from two fangs into the forest ahead of them. She turned to Mist. “Awwrk?” She said, and Mist sighed lovingly, “Oh, my beautiful Blackberry! You are to be one of the most special dragons in the world!” The dragonet and her mother sat silently and happily, watching the night sky.
Chapter 1[]
My mom didn’t know that I was a mind reader. That was all right, because she despised mind readers. And, besides, there were no NightWings except Moon who were mind readers. And I wasn’t even full-on NightWing. My mother was a RainWing. My father had died, but none of the other RainWings knew my dad was a NightWing. They all thought my father was one of those RainWings who had died on the volcano ten years ago. My mother and I were at the foot of Jade Mountain Academy. The Dragonets of Destiny were now adults, married, and had 1-2 year old dragonets. “Mother, do I have to go?” I whimpered, although I knew the answer. “Yes,” she said. It’ll be a little bit nicer without a four year old dragonet to clean up after, her mind thought. My ruff drooped. I looked like a RainWing… I had all of the RainWing powers, but no one but Mother knew I was part NightWing. I just… preferred to stay black. “Mother, what if I really really don’t want to go?” She sighed and shook her head. Blackberry wants to stay with me… but this will be good for her! Mother thought. “Now, my sweet dragonet, remember your disguise. No one, and I mean no one, is to find out that you’re part NightWing.” I quickly gave myself silver speckles all over my face, and got rid of the stars on my wings. Finally, Mother flew away. I had heard in her mind she wouldn’t visit. I worked up all my courage and flew inside the cave.
“HI! I’m Fatespeaker!” A dragon greeted me. Her mind was quiet, and I didn’t notice her. “H-hi, Fatespeaker.” I plucked my information for my cave and winglet from her brain, and said, “I’ll explore for a minute.” She nodded and passed me a scroll with the welcoming information on it. Who’s that RainWing? I heard a mind say about me, her silver scales are pretty. What if no one likes me? Boy, I’m hungry. All of the different thoughts from different minds pounded on me, giving me a headache. I checked my scroll to make sure I was going to the right cave, and finally came to cave 489. I walked inside to find a few nice sleeping spots; a pool of water for a SeaWing, a small bed for a NightWing, a ledge for a SkyWing, and a platform hanging from the ceiling for me. I flew up to the platform and unpacked my items. I placed a small lotus flower at the edge, scattered pink blossoms on the platform, and put a small glowing rock down as a night light. The cave’s ceiling was high, our cave was close to the top of the mountain, and my hammock was close to the leaf ceiling, so I was higher up than the SkyWing’s ledge, and far higher than the SeaWing and the NightWing.
There was a noise of laughter, a hiss, and a NightWing came into the cave. I hid on my platform, and looked at the sunlight shifting through the leaves. I decided to make myself look more like a regular rainwing. I kept my silver speckles on my face, and I changed my ruff yellow. I looked over the edge of my platform, and saw the NightWing. She had silver scales, too. Like me. She must’ve been able to see the future. I saw it in her mind. I know that if I take this class I fail- this is just like that scroll- father hates me- school! I’m really here- I’m being bullied- they seem to have nice scrolls- and then the scavenger killed Oasis- what will happen next? The NightWing’s mind was confusing, yet felt comforting to look into. I decided to make introductions. I jumped into the air and spread my wings before I hit the ground. “Hi!” I said, trying to seem cheerful. Eek. Is she like Kinkajou when she was young? Thought the NightWing. “...Hello.” She said. “I’m Blackberry,” I announced, “and I like flowers.” She nodded. “Cool,” she mumbled. “I’m Frosteyes, but please, call me Frost.” I nodded, and looked down only to notice my scales turning yellow. I changed them back to black, and a SeaWing walked in. “What’s your name?” I asked, although I got it from her mind, My name is Ocean and I don’t want to be here. “I’m Ocean,” she said with a smirk. A protective wall came around her mind as she thought, Oh, NightWing. Ocean’s mind was now unreadable to me. “Well, hello, little LazyWing,” purred Ocean. My ruff turned a little pink, but I quickly turned it back into yellow. Many of the dragons in the RainWing village knew how to block mind readers, so I had to learn how to figure out dragons. She’s actually self-conscious, I thought, she only bullies people to point out their flaws so that she feels good about herself. “Go away, Ocean,” growled Frost, “don’t go picking on Blackberry, too.” And Ocean is kinda a stupid name, Frost thought. I bit back laughter. “In your dreams, Growly,” Ocean snapped. Frost backed down. “Keep in mind I have extremely dangerous magical death spit,” I threatened. I had just made a friend, and I wasn’t about to let a bully get the best of her. Ocean snorted indignantly and went to the pool of water and began to put glowing clams in the clear liquid. I smiled at Frost. Her mind whispered, I’m so glad to have her as a friend. She smiled back.
