CHAPTER ONE: smooching in the MOONLIGHT[]
Moonwatcher AKA Moowatcher AKA Cowwatcher AKA Cowseer AKA... a whole lotta jibrish
Moon was feeling exhilirated. Last night was her and Qibli's six-month-aversary. He had promised her something special, and the specialness had come. But, these days, it was hard not to have some feelings for... Moon shuddered, thinking about the cold scales against hers, the frost carried along each breath, the handsome snout kissing her in the dark that eve, during the New Moon Festival, after Qibli had proposed a courting. She'd accepted, as he was the love of her life, and they'd planned it to be when they both reached adulthood.
But Moon couldn't shake off the feelings
the feelings of that night.
---
It had been a blossoming night. Large magenta orchids and blue morning glories had been strung on vines around the Prey Center, where glowing white and yellow orbs of light had been placed around the enormous cavern. The river floated with lotuses and lilies, their frangrance flowing through the cavern filled with laughter and music. The school orchestra was playing loud and joyful music in the light of two full moons, making it even more exilirating of a night. Tables and platters of roasted mountain goats and peach and plum sauce drizzled on sliced toasted eggplants and mango purée stood at the far ends of the cavern, with more chefs replacing the food when it was finished. Dragonets twirled around the dance floor with joy and spun to the beat of the music.
Everything was perfect
Or even more so.
Qibli sidled up to Moon, his handsome snout illuminated by one of the bulbs. His DarkStalker earring shone in the light of one of the bulbs, a beautiful reminder of the Evil that had once befallen the school. Qibli kissed Moon gently on her cheek.
"Hey, Qi," whispered Moon. Qibli pushed Moon up against a wall and kissed her on the lippies. "So, you remember."
"Of course I do," replied Qibli, his wings encasing her and pulling her into a hug. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Moon smiled, smelling Qibli's scent. It was of deserts and sunlight, the brightness of his personality and the warmth of his scales. Moon felt her insides explode with joy. Qibli made her feel like everything was okay, like nothing could break them apart. Uncomfortably, Moon thought of how Qibli and Winter used to fight over her, Qibli winning in the end. She wasn't okay with the fighting, but she loved the outcome. Winter was cold... harsh... but he really did have a handsome snout.
"I'll get us some punch," whispered Qibli, his talons detatching from hers.
"Okay," Moon whispered back, feeling his Skyfire pouch bump against her heart. She watched as he walked away, and she saw the familiar sights of Winter next to him. Oh no... she thought, until... Winter was kissing Qibli! She felt a wrench in her heart, a twist, and a feeling that she shouldn't have at the sights of them... snoodling. Winter was kissing him passionately, like Qibli had kissed her many times before. Moon felt her guts being set on fire, and then butterflies as Winter's lips detached from Qibli's, and the IceWing prince sidled up to her!!
"Hello, beautiful," he said, and -- before she could react -- kissed her slow and long. A mixture of feeling bubbled up inside her, until she felt two unmistakeable feelings: she was in love with Winter and Qibli!
The rest of the night went otherwise normally. Qibli proposed, things were set, but Moon couldn't shake off the feeling of passionate love she felt for Winter.
It was time to make things right
Time to tell Qibli
Time to crush his heart
--
Back at their date, the night after the festival, she walked up to Qibli in a secluded pool in the west of Jade Mountain. She felt exhiliration pump her heart again, and again, the feelings nearly crushing her. Qibli kissed her, then gestured to a table he'd set up with her favorite food, and two candles. His talons twisted together and Moon thought (uncomfortably) of how Winter had kissed her boyfriend.
"Qibli..." Moon began.
"No," whispered Qibli, kissing her again, more passionatly, her talons skimming the pool behind them. "What happened last night..." Qibli breathed in deeply. "I might be in love with Winter."
"I-- I am too," said Moon.
"Well..." said Qibli. "Now what?"
"We eat," Moon said quietly, sitting down and picking up her fork. They ate in silence, somberly, eyeing each other nervously, none of them daring to speak or even utter anything. Moon sipped water from her glass, staring down at the food on her plate. She didn't know why, but she was silently crushed by the thought of Winter choosing Qibli over her, a thought that hadn't occured to her until that very moment in time. Maybe it was because she was in love with him. Well, she thought sadly, I guess I have to make a choice.
CHAPTER TWO: a friendly game[]
Winter AKA Weenter AKA Winners AKA Fashion AKA cushions AKA pillows AKA bed AKA bedroom AKA house AKA people AKA Scavengers (yes I did just do that)
Winter didn't know what came over him that evening. He was drunk, probably. He was fooling around with some of the less pompous IceWings, chugging beer that night. They had warned him that it would tap into his unconscious feelings, that it would make him loopy, that it would end up making him snoodle with a decietful NightWing and a stupid SandWing. His eyes scanned the crowd in the prey center the next day, hoping they wouldn't land on a peach SandWing or a brilliant black-with-shades-of-green-and-blue NightWing with silver teardrop scales by her eyes. Of course, they did, and he was startled to see them blushing almost... redening on their snouts, matching the emotions bubbling inside of him...
"Hey," said a loud voice next to him. It was Kinkajou, a pink and yellow RainWing with no compatibility whatsoever. All she did was gossip and laugh at stupid things. Well if she's laughing at stupid things, Winter thought (although a bit uncomfortably, which he had no good reasons to feel), then she should laugh at herself.
"Hey," he replied gruffly, catching her eyes in his line of vision. She was bursting -- it seemed -- with news. Maybe it was something small. Maybe Turtle asked her out or --
"Did Winter really kiss Qibli and Moon?"
"Wow I thought he hated those two."
"What a disgrace to royalty. No tainted bloodlines, that's what mum said."
"I could easily get both of them to like me."
"Wow, imagine someone like him kissing me!"
"He's so handsome..."
Winter turned around, light reflecting off his silver scales. She knew. They knew. The whole school knew. Who had told them? Winter didn't bother to entertain the notion. He knew who it was. That stupid, pestering RainWing--
"I'm sorry!" Kinkajou suddenly burst, looking left, then right wildly. "It wasn't me, it was--!"
"Not another word or you know what will happen to your face," Winter hissed, frostbreath churning up inside him.
"Ahh, Winter, darling," said an all-too familiar voice, playful as ever, sidling up to the pair, "threatening faces again."
"I'll snap up your tail and beat you with it, how about that."
"Creative," said Qibli, "but we've heard that already."
"Fine, then I'll rip out your guts, break your neck, pull out your teeth one by one--"
"Enough gore," Qibli said wryly, bonking him affectionately one the side of his neck. This sent a jolt of emotion through Winter's body, heating him and freezing him all at the same time. Like icing and ignition. Like cooling and combustion. Like shivering and scorching. Like freezing and flaming. A swirl of emotions were sent up Winter's body, and he felt an impulse to kiss Qibli right there, tongue and all, in front of everyone. But he restrained himself.
Have some sanity, Winter! he scolded himself. Don't be a scruffy-SandWing lover!
"Look, I really like you," said Qibli. "Should we go out?"
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO," said Winter before passionately... farting in Kinkajou's face. The little RainWing sneezed because she was such an idiot and ended up flinging herself backward onto a random MudWing who immediately turned Winter's ill-timed fart into a complete and utter riot.
Food was thrown, dragons were yelling, clawing each other and begging for mercy, all the while Moonwatcher, Winter, and Qibli talked wholeheartedly about their innermost feelings to each other. Qibli promptly took out an umbrella to shield them from the massacre that had been bestowed upon them mercilessly, ending their kindling of fun and causing perpetual damage to their view of other dragons within their neurological system...
Qibli sipped his coffee self-consciously, staring at the rest of his Winglet, whose jaws hit the floor. They stared at the odd device given to them by some Ooga-Booga Animus that somehow didn't loose their powers (or maybe they were regained..?), their eyes glued to the flat screen whereupon someone had typed out an entire fanfiction purely about the big three, all on a website named Fandom. If it weren't for the stupidity of them kissing seconds from each other, they would have taken it as any normal fanfiction.
"Hey, Qibli," Winter said earnestly. "This fanfic has taught me something. I-I-I LOVE YOU!" And he promptly smooched Qibli on the cheek.
Qibli awoke in a cold sweat. His dream was weird. A fanfiction in a dream about reading a fanfiction? How odd? And why did that coffee taste oddly real? It tasted bad. Dream Qibli should really get better coffee, thought he.
