Currently revamping the entire fic. I will also be finishing with redoing the cover and map! If a chapter has been revamped, it will be mentioned until they all are done.

Before you start reading, here are some things you should know:

  • This is the first book in my series of five, and takes place on the fan continent of parthana, with five fan tribes
  • the five tribes are DewWing, ReefWings, WoodWings, GemWings, and Palmawings
  • The upper war is small skirmishes between the WoodwWngs and DewWings because of the beach war(DewWings are with the ReefWings, WoodWings are with the PalmWings)
  • The beach war is a 1000+ year war between the PalmWings and ReefWings, which originated because the PalmWings pushed the ReefWings off the palm beaches during the start of the continents colonization. However, at this point in time both sides have caused so much chaos that there is no truly “right” tribe.

The Parthana Prophecy[]

When a dragon of lightning meets a dragon of thunder

When the queen of the shore claims her crown

When the sea breaks a promise and a stone reveals

When the forests secret is found

a legacy left by leaf, hive and silk

turn your wings to the sky

five dragonets must fly to the sun

or all 5 of the tribes shall die.

Prologue(Revamped)[]

Queen Cloud rushed through the halls of the DewWing palace, claws scraping the floor as she went.

The few servants and guards out and about were smart enough to back away, keeping an appropriate distance from the clearly agitated ruler as she hardly bothered to spare them a glance. Normally she was calm and composed, a glistening embodiment of the family she represented.

Today was not one of those days.

The enclosed corridor opened to the gulf below the castle, the water and rain mixing together. Few storms in the cloud forest were natural, but the Queen just knew that this one was from the sky alone; as if the heavens themselves were worried about the news the hatchery keeper had delivered her.

If what she had said was true at all.

She slowed, slipping on the polished rocks below her in front of the doors leading to the nesting areas. Mirrors hung along the walls, and she quickly made use of one to fix the askew diamonds draped across her wings and her crown which had nearly fallen off.

Terrified? Yes, she was certainly terrified. But she was not foolish enough to let her daughters see even a moment of weakness.

Show you’re in control.

Show you’re not afraid.

Fear breeds weakness.

Silent. Intimidating. Strong.

Satisfied with her appearance, she slowly opened the doors.

The heat sank into her scales, practically pulling them off her as she stepped inside. Feeling nauseous and desperate to keep the bile in her throat down, she continued forward as young dragonets peeked their heads at her from cushions to mini-balconies for new fliers. The few caretakers bowed respectfully as she made her way to the end of the room, to a far more bejeweled door in the shape of an egg.

She looked at herself in the mirrors just out of the dragonet's reach one more time, before opening it with as much energy as she could muster.

At first, it didn’t seem like any world-ending event was happening.

Soft rugs and toys were scattered across the ground, small spears and shields, and what looked like what was left of dinner in piles not too neatly made.

But then there they were. All four of her daughters.

Sage looked jittery and nervous, ready to launch out of a window at the nearest gust. Next to her sat Clement, who had the same mask of an expression as her mother. She was also decorated with as many jewels as possible, to a point where it was almost tacky. She didn’t even look up when her mother came in; an obvious challenge, a threat hidden by simple foolishness.

The queen rolled her eyes. For one, Clement was less than half her size, if that. She had nothing to fear from either of them for a very long time.

Finally, her oldest daughters sat glaring with their faces containing the fury of a thousand Palm Wings; but for once, Mint and Mist’s attention was not on each other but rather on the young dragonets just beyond them.

Queen Cloud's stomach fell clean out of her chest.

Three males, one female. They jumped and spun around each other, snapping and giggling. She immediately dismissed the princes; they were unimportant and useless, other than skilled soldiers. All four of them had odd tails; the scales seemed to change, growing stiffer and shiner until it looked as if they were covered in diamonds. They had tailwhip; their lineage was clearly from a noble house or at least a high-ranking general.

But she cared nothing about that; no, it was something else that had shaken her to her core.

All DewWing dragonets took time to learn how to keep their abilities under control. Dew Whisper took time to master, and until then it hung around the heads of the wearer almost like angelic halos. The royal family was proud of its roots as one of the more powerful Dew Whisperers.

The three boys had white clouds above them, barely visible against the air. Typical.

But her daughter?

A mini-hurricane rolled above her head, with lightning flashing and winds howling.

Silent. Intimidating. Strong.

She reached over and picked her daughter up by the neck. Was that her heart beating, or someone else’s?

The dragonet looked at her with curious eyes.

Her brothers and her could not be more different; a cloud and a tornado. This dragonet would be able to destroy the world by the time she was only five; she would wield lightning and command the rain.

Silent. Intimidating. Strong.

She opened her mouth. Would she regret what she was going to do?

Words spilled out of the Queen's mouth uncaught.

“Hello Dragonet. I am your mother, Queen Cloud. And your name is Gale.”

Part 1-Royal Thunder[]

Chapter 1(Revamped)[]

Chapter 1

Rain crashed against the coastline, ruining the beaches and yanking dragons out of the sky. Wind howled, causing waves to slam against the caves along the cliffs and leaving several homes probably drenched. It came to a head in the palace itself, where a mini-hurricane was currently brewing as if a massive bird was flapping its wings in all directions.

Gale wasn't surprised; storms normally followed her wherever she went.

She was currently sitting on one of the tallest towers in the palace, where her mother had put her as soon as she moved out of the nursery. She had claimed it was one of the better bedrooms, but they both knew it was a blatant lie. Any dragon could fly in and out as they pleased, and wind often found its way inside in the wee hours of the night.

Then again, perhaps it was the perfect room for her. The wind wouldn't dare to fight her, and no dragon would enter inside unless they absolutely had to.

Either way, she didn't mind; at that moment, she was watching with boredom as dragons snuck looks at her across balconies and windows, while the sea trickled in the distance.

She was losing her mind; to be fair, she had been losing her mind for quite some time, but she frankly was almost wishing for a bolt of stray lightning to strike a tower and then oops it would-

She cut off those thoughts. Those were the bad thoughts that never ended well for anyone, and she should avoid them. Unwilling to sit on her favorite windowsill and pout anymore, she flounced off of it and made a beeline to the forest caking the edge of the lake. The rain eagerly followed her, and she called for the wind to hurry her along. There was an almost peaceful moment, right before it reached her when the entire world slowed. It lasted for a moment before she was whisked away, taking the weather with it.

Was it her imagination, the sighs that echoed across the rocky walls? Probably not. If what Sage told her was anything to go by, whenever she was asleep or absent was the only time that the servants got anything done.

She wanted to pity them, but really she never did anything too terrible. No, she certainly had, and she wanted to beat herself over the head. She had been flying too far, she realized and was clear over the ocean now. Wheeling around she went back to the trees. At least the ReefWings wouldn't care; she sometimes thought they liked her more than her own tribe.

No, no. Her own tribe...tolerated her. She was a blessing and curse, her mother had said, and as long as she stayed out of everyone's way and behaved, she would hopefully stick as the former.

She landed in the forest, swooping through roots. It felt amazing to be on her own again, where she wouldn't bother anyone. Where the only sound was water running down wood and plopping in puddles.

She was near the border; she had never been outside of the kingdom, but she didn't really care much. She had never needed to leave, and she certainly didn't need whatever the other tribes hunted (Did GemWings even eat, with the scarcity of creatures in their rocky hills? And how did the WoodWings eat, with the scarcity of cover their own forest brought them?)

She landed on the ground and stocked off with as much zeal as she could muster. Gale had never been good at being quiet, and what could outrun a well-placed lightning strike? Sure, her food often ended up charred, but it was a good charred that showed her own success and not something a nameless palace staff had tracked and killed.

She sniffed the air, more as a show to absolutely no one than an actually useful attempt, and was surprised to actually smell something.

Something burning.

She froze. There were only two reasons fire would exist in the forest; lightning or PalmWings. And she had sure as Storm not struck anything herself.

She whisked over stray limbs and roots, as the steady drip drip of water increased tenfold. She finally slowed, into a clearing, ready to do something-

It was just a group of scavengers.

The wind went out of her chest, heavy and moist air exiting together, and she let out a long sigh of relief.

She looked at them curiously. One of them was making a high, squeaky pitched noised, long and drawn out, which only intensified when her gaze landed on it. The others appeared to be...holding it down. They had wrapped it up in vines and were watching her while wielding torches.

She had never needed torches, to see into the night; the forest was always alive with fireflies. But surely if one was as small as a scavenger, you would get lost in the brush.

Either way, a snack was a snack; even a stringy, chewy one.

She snatched it up, and it began to beat its fists against her claws in retaliation. It was bemusing; that's what it was.

Then it bit her. That wasn't very funny.

Gale shoved it into her mouth and a crunch rang out. She stalked away from the scavengers, determined to avoid her meal in peace. They vanished into the underbrush, uncaring of their now-dead brethren.

That struck her as odd; more than odd, in fact. Scavengers were ferocious; one of them had killed her favorite tutor and stolen some of her gems before they were hunted down and eaten. They had always worked together, which made sense because of how fragile they were.

She flew up, flying just above the treeline where she swooped over leaves. It was peaceful and tranquil alone, and she once again turned her thoughts to running away.

She had tried once when she was younger. And by trying she just hid in the forest for a few hours. It hadn't taken long to find her, and while it was probably because of her lack of control of her Storm Whisper, she still believed everyone was always watching her for a year.

But the DewWings needed her, right?

Right?

She landed in her room with a thump, startling the maid who had been cleaning. She let out a stifled yelp before quickly gathering her things and failing to discreetly flee, casting a terrified glance at the dragonet away from her.

The door clicked.

Gale pushed away the guilt and annoyance sizzling in her scales, instead dousing herself in cold water with a wash bin; she had scavenger blood all over her mouth, which was probably why she had run off. Yes, that was it.

The unsettling feeling did not go away as she rolled on her bed, the covers getting tangled in her wings.

Friends would be nice right about now.

She closed her eyes as a soothing rainfall began, drowning out the other sounds.

Another dreamless night was her last thought before her vision faded.

Chapter 2[]

Gale used to have friends, like she used to have dreams. At least she thought she did, when she was still a young dragonet.

First there where her 3 brothers...what where their names?

That was it, Tea, olive, and Yucca.

She thought about those happy, fragments of memories in the hatchery, where she and her brothers would launch at one another, play games, and sleep in a giant pile.

Skipping to after they grew out of their early childhood, she never saw olive and Yucca again.

Tea was her only friend, but vanished at well, off to his own battalion. When she did see him, he was cold and unfriendly, ignoring any attempts she made to greet him. As one of the queens only three remaining heirs after "the incident," she and sage had all the responsibility dropped on them-which they never wanted or had any interest having. Of course, it would be much better if their oldest sister, mist, could still try for the crown. Thinking about it, she most likely would have if her back legs had not both been maimed in the incident.

It was no secret, though, that everyone wanted sage to be the next queen instead of gale.

While people smiled and waved at sage, gale got terrified looks and stares. So it was normal not to be invited to large dew wing party's or feasts.

On the other hand, as her sister walked around the room annoyed, something was without a doubt off.

Pulling her eyes, her sister stopped pacing and looked at her nervously. According to the palace gossip, sage used to be paranoid and scared of everything, but now she was calm and regal. But, like gale, she was great at pretend. Her traumatized sister was just as scared and paranoid as ever, even more so.

"Why on earth would she NOT invite AT LEAST ONE of us a "diplomatic feast!" sage complained.

"Well, you know how mother hates it when we are in the same room as her, and if i showed up someone would most likely die just from pure panic" Gale replied, doing her best to make her voice sound mature and simple, contrasting with sages loud fear.

They had both received letters from the queen that day, telling them to stay downstairs in the hot springs for a few hours. She was apparently expecting some visitors, maybe the reef wings or the gem wing, to discuss something important. Gale also knew mist would be near the palace again, after sometime away in the deepest part of the forest for some "healing".

But her sister was right, it was odd for sage not to be invited. She wished she could say the same about herself.

"Maybe shes planning to kill us off. You know how mother feels about heirs" said sage, and then paused, going quite

clement and mint

Queen cloud had not mourned their death. Shaken by the incident as she was, she was happy to lose some of her heirs, along with one now being incapable of claiming the throne. And it wasn't hard to imagine her killing off more.

"Ill go spy on the guest suits" Gale said, standing up

"If it is the reef wings, it should be decorated as such. Same with the gem wings. Its most likely another boring meeting"

sage nodded, snapping back to "i'm so regal, perfect, amazing, yada yada yada" and left the room, back into view of the rest of the palace. Gale followed, and a small rain began to form outside. If it WAS the reef wings, they would be much happier in the rain, so she kept the winds mild, and the chill strong

The suites where in the right wing of the palace, in their own hall. Unlike the rest of the dew wing residents, it was filled with quartz and so empty it made your head hurt. gale hated this place, it was boring and unintresting and everything it should not have been. But here she was, sneaking through it from windowsill to windowsill like she was trying to steal something. The first sign was water stops throughout the hallway-normally shelves, the had been changed so that a dragon could stick their head into the water.

"Without a doubt, reef wings" gale thought, then stopped dead in her tracks.

Looking closer she saw beach's. Lots of beach themed decor, in fact, but most of it was palm tree themed. It took her far too long to figure out what this mean

HER MOTHER HAD INVITED THE PALM WINGS

She put her talons on her face. The AUDACITY. Was this a cruel prank? Was her mother trying to antagonize the poor reef wings? She did not stick around to find out. Launching herself out of the palace, rage and adrenaline carried her wings and wind whipped around. The sky clouded over instantly. Rain came rushing down and thunder crackled. Everything she had made herself study over the years about the tribe relationships rushed out of her head, and the sky flashed. But she stopped herself. Taking a deep breath, she spun back to the palace

she flew as fast as she could, scales clouding over as she constantly vanished to hide and then changed to match her new surroundings Finally landing at the front of the diplomacy room, she leaped onto one of the many fancy beams at the top of the palace and spun inside through a (possibly secret) window. She rested above the gem-inlaid glass work hanging from a sturdy beam and changed her scales, prepared. As the heat of the moment cooled, it dawned on her what she had brought on her self.

"If mother finds out i'm here...she will kill me. So I wont be found. Ill be silent and quite and perfect. I want to know why she is hosting our alliances sworn enemies". With a deep breath, she pushed down the feeling of pure dread and waited for the queens to arrive.

"I really need to work on my anger issues"

Chapter 3(Revamped)[]

When Gale was younger, she remembered the looks she was sent were different than the ones now. Softer, gentler. Filled with awe instead of fear, people watched her every move as the embodiment of power and good.

That changed when she first killed a Dragon.

It was a masquerade for the festival of Clarity; nothing exactly special or noteworthy, but still important enough for Queen Lionfish to leave the safety of the ocean for a diplomatic meeting, betting on the safety of the Palace being filled with guests. Important enough that PalmWings got wind of it, and one became brave(or foolish) enough to actually attempt to infiltrate and kill her.

She found Gale instead; at the time, Gale had been living in the best guest room, with Lionfish sleeping in a deeper part of the palace for security. The assassin didn't know that until Gale saw her, and she reacted in panic.

Her body was completely gone, burnt to ash.

The stares didn't go away, but they shifted. What if they had been a DewWing?  Gale didn't know what would have happened; maybe she would have hurt them. And then things started changing until she couldn't remember a time when she could lean into anybody but Mint.

Well, it wasn't like she needed anyone, anyway.

Tearing her thoughts back to the meeting room, footsteps sounded the Queens' arrivals as guards and advisers alike entered. First, her mother, who took her place on the throne at the front: it was far higher than the other seats, inlaid with jewels and small pools. Next Queen Lionfish arrived, with at least 20 guards and counting who fanned out and made a clear border on one-third of the room. Queen Lionfish was even older than her mother; a massive dragon currently covered in orange dye, making her look like her namesake. She was just as smart, too, if not even more so; she knew how to display her power, and where and how to. Last, arrived Queen Dragonfruit.

Wait, Gale narrowed her eyes. That wasn't Queen Dragonfruit. She had seen pictures of the queen, massive, bad-tempered, and a deep, almost black brown with yellow stripes. This dragon was an ivy green, with yellow and brown climbing up her claws like vines. Along with that, her only jewelry was a simple emerald crown, while Queen Dragonfruit was infamous for wearing her entire treasury wherever she went. This dragon seemed to only be around seven years old...the same age as Gale.

Why would the Queen send a child?

Then, the realization hit like lightning.

"Thank you for joining me, Queen Lionfish, Blackberry. I am glad that you both were able to come to an agreement on a meeting place and hopefully, hostilities between both of you shall be...sorted out." Her mother said diplomatically, despite both of the Queens looking as if they were trying to kill each other with their eyes. Gale thoughtfully considered how she had not heard about a challenger for the throne.

Mother hosting PalmWings is odd on its own, but since the ReefWings ordered it it makes more sense than the alternative...But why would she not announce the PalmWings having a new Queen? Surely Sage didn't know, so it's not just me, either...

I need to get out of here...I doubt I'll find any more answers from here.

She crept back out of the beams, the window shining through as she pressed herself against the stone, pale and grey. A warm mist surrounded the roof, seeming to leak in from hidden drafts, and she slipped out without a trace. Landing on the floor below, she spotted a different young ReefWing looking lost.  Walking over to him, she poked him with her tail, and he then made an amusing yip noise. Turning around, he looked down at his talons embarrassed, and Gale accidentally rolled her eyes; whoever this was, she doubted they could help her find more information, but they probably wouldn't be hiding anything.

"You look like you need something," Gale told him, trying to make her voice sound imperial and royal, though it mostly sounded drippy to her.

"well I-wait was it that obvious?" the mysterious ReefWing asked, without a hint of sarcasm

"Yes. You looked like a fish out of water" she replied, wrinkling her snout. Clearly, she was working with a very special sort of dragon

"Alright...I'm looking for the guest rooms. I was leaving my guard post after switching out with someone while I was protecting the queen, but everything in this palace looks the same to me".

"Oh" Gale replied, surprised that it was something that simple. ReefWings may have been allies, but this one wasn't matching up with their superiority at all. If anything, he seemed submissive and sad.

"They're over here, I can show you"

The two walked in silence for a while, painful and awkward, before Gale tried to make up a conversation desperately to break the boredom.

"What's your name?" She asked, legitimately curious

"Oh! My name is Danios. What's yours?"

Gale sucked her breath. This is where he would flinch away, or back up, and then leave the moment he could. Even ReefWings did this, but at least she would have something to complain to Sage about to hide how she had been more or less spying on a private delegation.

"Gale" she replied

He didn't appear to care very much.

"Cool!"

She watched him, surprise evident on her face, before rushing to go ahead and ask the main question on her mind before he left since he apparently had no clue who she was.

"Why is queen dragonfru-queen blackberry here?"

"Hm? Oh! Queen Loinfish and the new queen of the PalmWings are going to try to end the beach wars. At least, that's what her majesty said. but they mostly have been glaring at each other and possibly passing death threats under the table where none of us can see them."

Gale tripped, and Danios gave her a confused look.

"But the beach wars have been going on for thousands of years," Gale said, annoyed that everything she thought she knew about the tribes was vanishing in front of her. Talons and tails, how old were the scrolls in the library?

"Mhm, and as I said before, her Majesty and the new queen are sending each other death threats under the table," Danios remarked, rolling his eyes. She realized he clearly didn't have the stifling respect for royalty customary of the Royal Guard, and he didn't even seem like a guard at all. Was it a mask, or was he hiding his true skill and his personality really was just aloof and clueless?

"But it's more progress than all the other queens have made, at least." He said, before adding "The meeting was going to be held at the GemWing palace originally since they are neutral, but they are not exactly very water-breathing friendly compared to your facilities, so here we are"

Gale paused, thinking this over. But before she could answer, they arrived at the guest hallway, He gave her a look that she took as gratitude and turned away, were they probably wouldn't be able to talk more or even ever again.

"Will I see you around?" Gale asked, hoping not to sound desperate. This was the first dragon besides Sage that she had talked to in months, at least without necessity, and it was...nice to talk to somebody different, who didn't fear almost everything and wasn't royalty and all that it entailed.

"Maybe!" Danios called back cheerfully. Everything he said sounded cheerful, in an almost annoying way. It was nice, even if the sound annoyed her, in a way she didn't even try to explain.

And then Gale watched him go, bitter that she took a shortcut, as she flew up upward to get a breather from the stifling walls. In the distance, a group of dragons was gaining ground and heading to a landing pad. Cursing Queen Storm under her breath, before mentally smacking herself for offending her great ancestor, she wheeled around to go greet her sister.

Rain began running down the palace in torrents.

But this time it wasn't gale.

Chapter 4[]

Mist landed gracefully on the landing pad in a way that only years and years of practice could have perfected, with a handful of guards following. Gale noticed a few things about her older sister almost immediately; her sister was covered in cuts and bruises as if she had been in a skirmish recently. The same was not true for the guards, though, which was even more...confusing. How was she attacked before she had arrived, if she was truly in the coastline healer's huts for the past few months? Her limp was gone, though, which she supposed had to count for something. But her eyes...her eyes were a pale, almost white green.

Gale forced herself to focus on something else, hiding her uncomfortableness. Dew wings traditionally had eyes just like the other dragon tribes-but she had always had a pure, sparkling white covering hers. It made sense that her sister would have such a weird cover, like her, maybe from the healings. Her foot was fixed after all...but something felt off. Just by looking at her, she felt a shiver running down her spine. Water rushed down both of their faces, rain splintering across wings, the silence drawing on.

Her sister returned her gaze, before leaving, giving her a shove as she passed to head inside. Gale stood there for a few moments before a familiar voice snapped her back to reality.

"Hello! Lovely weather we are having today" Danios said, as another bucket of water fell onto Gale's head with a splotch.

"Easy for you to say, I imagine you would be able to fly all the way to the other side of the continent at this rate" Gale replied, rolling her eyes. It would be odd for Danios not to enjoy this weather, but it was still annoying nonetheless. "

"You just have bad taste" He replied enthusiastically. "Oh! I saw your sister in the hallway. She was...odd. Quiet, and kind of scary. She was going straight to the throne room, or I think the throne room. Is the palace like a lightning rod? Because I have almost been hit 4 TIMES" he said, crinkling up his snout.

Gale took a few seconds to register everything he had said, before looking around and realizing he was right. The weather seemed to only hit the palace, and she could see perfectly still waters by the shore. She thought it wasn't her, but what other explanation did she have?

"Let's go see the throne room, I'm sure that will clear up some mysteries" she replied, sick of being unable to see as wind howled.

"Fine with me!" he said, leaping past her and up the hallway. Looking at him more, she figured out he looked a lot like the fish he was named after, though she heard Reefwings came in every color under the sun. He was a pale light blue, with yellow stripes and light, almost white-green lines climbing up his tail and vanishing at his back legs. Was it natural, or was he using the body paint his tribe was famous for?

The lanterns throughout the palace glowed a light blue and gave the halls an almost glassy look. Turning a corner, she almost ran into Sage who was talking to another dragon. He was looking at Sage intently, something in his gaze that she couldn't quite place. She thought she had seen him around, but she couldn't pinpoint where. Her sister didn't seem to notice it, though, instead allowing relief to bloom over her face as she turned toward her.

"Did you figure anything out?" Sage asked, her voice sounding commanding, but her expression kind and sympathetic.

"Yes...The queen of the palm wings is here" Gale replied, feeling guilty for not talking with her beforehand, Her eyes grew, and Gale could feel her brain running and marking off possibilities, checking scrolls she imprinted in her head; Sage was always the more logical of both of them, but she was surprised she wasn't treating this with her normal paranoia. She always was at the top of the class, her memory sharper than a spear. Yet another reason why so many dragons wanted her to be queen.

The dragon next to her spoke up thoughtfully, watching Sage out of the corner of his eye.

"So I'm guessing there is a new queen?" he asked, his tail swishing back and forth. Danios looked impressed and nodded, and Sage's shoulders relaxed, causing Gale to wonder what she had been thinking.

"I think I saw Mist heading to the throne room" Gale said, hoping to hurry and see why her older sister was being so much more mysterious than normal.

"Let's go see them, then. I haven't seen your mother yet, anyway." Danios said cheerfully. The other dragon nodded, rolling his shoulders back. Studying his face for a few moments, she finally remembered his name was Gyre. She guessed he was a general's son, due to his tail, but besides that she hadn't seen him before. Spreading her wings to catch up with Danios and her sister, she took off as she felt him catch up behind her. She flew above the great hall, all the floors of the palace spiraling down. Stares pressed her scales closer to her body, despite the fact that when she turned her head everyone suddenly found an important job somewhere else. Struggling to find the courage to keep moving, she pulled her head back up and landed with the others on a large balcony on the side of the room.

Her mother was sitting on the throne, looking...uncomfortable. She nudged her head down, to where her sister was standing with her head held high. All conversation had ceased, like the eye of the storm had opened.

"Are you going to stand with your mouth agape, mother, or will you speak?" Mists' voice rang out loud and clear, laced with venom.

More bewildered silence. A crack of thunder split the room, bright light flickering Mist caught it, spinning it in her palm.

No

"Well?"

No, no no no...

There was only one dragon in the world who could do that.

And it was her.

It was her.

Right?

Chapter 5[]

Gales mind was blank. She stood back up slowly. Sage looked at her, and a thought somehow crossed her mind. she reached out her talons, but gale was already gone in a blur. She landed on the throne room, causing a circle of dragons to form around her and mist. mist looked at gale like she was a dragonet, and started talking in a low, almost babying voice

"awww, is someone not very important now? what are you going to do? you never had the gut to do anything. just go back to your room and hide, maybe you will feel better" mist said smirking at gale

pure. Undefined. Rage.

A bolt of lightning flashed through the room, pushing back dragons. Gale caught it neatly in her talon, and swung it at mist smashing her into a pillar. mist stood up, coughing, only to be slammed down yet again, this time by gales tail. Finally regaining her footing, mist slid under her sister, and smashed her into the floor. Gale felt a *crack* in her stomach, and felt dizzy. The two princesses advanced on each other, when a sudden blast of fire smacked the two apart.

Queen blackberry stood there, panting. dragons rushed to put out the fires and sparks, and there was a few moments of silence.

but that didn't stop mist

she spun at the young queen and launched at her, causing her to be pushed off the balcony. At the same time, she cut her wings, keeping her from flying...at least for a while. Palmwing Gaurds pounced and held down mist, while gale watched the falling queen frantically try to spread her wings. Coming back to her senses, she launched herself down, trying to reach her before it was to late.

"im not going to make it" she thought, panic replacing her rage. but she HAD too. the world would be a complete mess if she didn't. Summoning all her strength, she launched a waterspout to grab her. It did the trick, but instead dropped her in the sea, which wasn't much better. She saw a shape dart past her, and saw that it was danios. He flew to the queens body in the water, who was trying (and failing) to swim past the rage filled waves and back to shore. Her vision blurred, and everything faded to black

she woke up in a room. memories filled her head, and her thoughts became backround noises as she relived something she hoped to never think about again.

she was 2 years old, and it was the afternoon of a damp, foggy day. All 5 princesses (including her) where busy in the upper tower, in tutoring. Their teacher had stepped out for some time, and they where sitting bored out of there minds. Gale was in the back, mist and sage in the middle, and clement and mint where at the front, whispering. Then a bang. A dragonflame cactus (a plant found in the grey slopes) Had been dropped into the room, blowing her and sage back, and everyone forward. She stood there in shock, but sage didn't. She rushed into the burning mess and pulled out mists body. both of her back legs and tail lay limper then normal, and she would clearly have a disability for some time, maybe the rest of her life. All 3 of them where pulled out by guards, and that's when they found clement and mints body on the floor in a corner, charred to a crisp. And everyone ignored it except the 3 who survived, and a killer who was never found. She could have pulled them out like sage-She could have put out the fire. She had left them to die, by the moons she was a fool. She could have-

She was ripped out of her head by the sound of voices

"Are you sure they are ok? the blue one took quite a beating"

"pfft, did you see the palm wing? she was almost dead"

"Good thing that reef wing got to both of them in time, shame he passed out"

"I think one of them it waking up"

gale opened her eyes to see she was on a beach. A dragon that was partly transparent and colored a deep ruby red, and a dark green dragon with brown specks and stripes climbing up her feet where staring at her. She saw that queen blackberry was on the beach, along with danios, and they where both passed out. She pulled herself up and winced as her ribs screamed at her, and gave up, preceding to opt for sitting down. A drizzle began, and the two mysterious dragons ooohed and ahhhed as the display, much to her confusion. It took her a second to figure out they where a gem wing and wood wing, and they seemed to be far more calm then they should be, not to mention they where clearly far away from where ever they where supposed to be.

"Who are you?" gale asked, starting with the basics

"My names Spinel, clearly" said the red dragon, showing off his bright red scales

"And that's thistle" said spinel, nodding. The green dragon smiled and waved

the groans from her right made the conversation dwindle, as queen blackberry pushed herself up. She leaped into battle position and tried to burn the waves, only to see that she was without a doubt no longer in the dew wing throne room. She spun to the other dragons, and relaxed a bit when she saw that mist was not one of them, but then raised her guard again. She sucked in her breath some, turning her brown-scaled underbelly a warm ember-a clear sign that she had fire at the ready to blast in their faces.

Thistle gave her a injured look at the queen for preparing to fight, then turned back to gale

"We saw your body's in the sea. You where lucky that reef wing pulled you up to a shallow end, or you would have drowned-Spinel and I pulled your body's out" as if on cue, she sneezed, and ocean water came out of her nose

"It was very, very wet"

noise, this time from her left, made them turn their heads-danios got up, pulled himself over to the water, and sat there, watching them.

"Well, where are we?" he asked-his voice was a bit more shaky then normal, but who could blame him?

"Black isle" Spinel said, and quickly added on as both Danios and blackberrys faces changed faster then should be possible

"And I know some of you think its cursed, most likely, but none of you can fly right now, so you might as well come with us"

that was true, gale thought, annoyed. All of their wings where injured and torn-they wouldn't be leaving anytime soon

"So where are we going then?" asked blackberry-her voice sounded strong yet gentle, gale felt like she could lead anything and that she would follow her any where.

Both Spinel and thistle looked at each other. Thistle shrugged, so Spinel turned back.

"The temple of the moon"

Chapter 6[]

Blackberry complained for the first hour as they walked down the stream, closer to the center island

"The temple of the moon is a myth. Even if it was real, its without a doubt gone now, and there is no way it here." Clarity was starting to get sick of her voice, but it took her way to long to remember what the temple was, so she had more or less given the young queen permission.

The temple of the moon was supposed to be the first temple made in honor of the moon goddess, Who was a (allegedly) a black dragon with wings that had the night sky pasted on them, who could see the future. Gale doubted the last fact. If she could, and if the temple was real, it was supposed to be filled with prophecies, and was one of the main reasons the beach wars started (a misread prophecy that said the palm wings would claim the beach as their home-the right definition was that the fish by the beach would triple in amount)

The temple had vanished and had been gone for thousands of years, so blackberry wasn't crazy, to say the least. But as dawn broke over the island and sunlight streamed through the dark, menacing trees, gale felt a bit of excitement break through the fear.

"according to the map, its supposed too be dead center of the upper delta" thistle said, mostly to herself

"So we should be close by now" spinel said, looking over his shoulder at the gale, danios, and blackberry every now and then.

Most of their wings where looking a lot better then yesterday, but it still felt like thousands of needles every time gale moved hers. She glanced at her friends, and paused.

"friends"

she still was uncertain about the other 3, but she new that she could count danios as a friend. Her pace sped up, more cheerful at the revelation. She noticed the others had all stopped ahead of her, and where looking at something. She came up to see what they where staring at, and the view took her breath away.

"wow"

River flowed down the cliff into the basin, making massive, clear pools of water at the bottom. Massive trees caked the sides of the cliffs, producing a lime green fruit. Orange, white, black, and yellow koi floated in the pools lazily, and snow white birds rested in branches. It was the polar opposite of the massive, black forest they had just left, and she could instantly see why the other tribes had a universal agreement on this being a sacred sight.

In the very center of the basin, a massive stone monument rose. It looked like a tall, open air domed building, and gale could see how the gold and quartz that once carpeted it had vanished over the ages. She could stare at it for hours-she had never felt so at home.

The others however, felt otherwise.

Thistle and spinel flew down, followed by the others. Gale sucked her breath, annoyed, but dived after them.

They arrived at the temple, which had a gentle glow in the light of morning. The inside was just as stunning as the outside, maybe even more so. Scroll racks lined level after level, and a thin stair case ran up to the top floor. At the very top, a large door led into a few bedrooms, empty except for a few stone furniture items. Climbing back down, gale saw that almost all the scrolls had rotted away, excluding a few lucky ones that survived. She read the titles on the box's, and saw titles she new, like "Vengeance of the sea", "protector of of the stone-the true history behind gem wings" and "recipes for deer-for every young dragonet." She also saw a few she had never seen nor heard of, like "Danger of nightmares", "The dragons of the flowers", and "The best fishing spots im all of parthana-a guide"

The others seemed very busy looking around, but blackberry was staring at everything with wide eyes. Suddenly, she spun around and smacked thistle, pushing her down onto the ground as she yelped with surprise. Danios looked at her confused, and spinel rushed over and tried to knock her off thistle.

"What are you doing?!" he yelled, glaring at the queen as she advanced on both of them, hissing

"I want to know why you both knew where the most sacred sight in all of parthana was, when it was undiscovered for years" she yelled. Gale realized she had a good point-the legend of this temple was one of the most debated topics in history, and thousands of dragons had searched for it.

the two looked at each other, clearly hoping to keep something hidden from the others for a while longer. Spinel reached into a small, leather bag on his foot and puled out a scroll. It was a deep, old sandy yellow, yet it seemed to be in mint condition. Rolling it out, gale saw a map of parthana drawn on it, done in clean, black ink.

"This is a animus object from the era of queen storm" he said, looking at it like it was a rare gem

"We found it in a small cavern near clarity golf" thistle added quickly

"It can show you the location of anything-you just have to ask it" spinel said, finishing thistles sentence. He talked like he was speaking of the most important thing to ever exist, yet it seemed rather minor compared to some of the other things the great dew wing queen had created, and not very useful either.

"Guys?"

Spinels monologue was ruined by danios calling out from downstairs

The 4 dragons walked to his voice, and gale noticed that spinel had passed thistle the scroll, which she had stored in a bag on her leg that matched spinels. She guessed it was to keep it safe, though she doubted it would work very well. She turned her head, and saw that danios was waiting for them at a dead end. His face was crinkled up, and he was looking at the wall intently, as if something was wrong.

"So? it a wall" blackberry said, resting by him.

"it feels off. The temple is said to be one of the greatest wonders of the world, and yet there is a old wall here. Why wouldn't they expand? And why is it so smooth and engraved? it seems pointless." he said, looking at it as if it would suddenly blow up.

"I know a way we can check" thistle said, removing the map. Rolling it out, she said:

"Show the entire body of the temple of clearight"

The maps ink warped around the page, much to gales supprise. When it finally stopped, it showed the entire temple. And Sure enough, the hallway not only failed to stop there, but it lead into a massive room near the cliffs, far away from the rest of the temple.

Gale started pushing on the wall, and was surprised to see blackberry next to her, helping. Finally, the wall began to move. Just a small bit at first, but then it neatly curved to the side, like sliding butter. The passageway was pitch black, yet danios walked in without a problem

oh, gale said, remembering what she had learned in her tribe class reef wings can see in the dark. Well if he went in like he was waking through the palace, it was hopefully safe?

The quintet walked in silence for a while, and it was shockingly warm. They finally saw light ahead, and exited into a massive cavern. The drip of water could be heard, and light streamed through holes in the roof. papper and stone was left around on the ground, utterly destroyed. In the center of the cavern, all the light hit a singular spot, and gale sucked her breath

a massive statue was there

She was carved out of solid black diamond, and was massive. Pearls where woven into her wings, to make it look like a black sky. She had purple eyes, and her expression was kind and gentle, yet intimidating. She stood tall, and her talons in front of her, top and bottom. In between them, being levitated using string, a silver tablet lay. It was clearly once stone but had been wrapped with diamonds and other minerals, and the light was aimed right onto it

Gale saw that both blackberry and danios where crouched down whispering. She realized that they where praying to the statue

she got closer to it, and saw it was on a silver pedestal. In golden words at the bottom, a clear engraving was lit up in a glowing, yellow substance

"Clearsight, goddess of the moon, seer of the future"

"Clearsight" she said out loud, trying to sear the name into her head. Turning back, she saw that the tablet had been taken out of the statues talons

She began panicking, only to see that thistle had brought it down to the ground, and was carefully holding it. But her expression was dark, as were the others. Gale walked over to look at it, and the words were written in the same substance as the pedestals. The other didn't even speak, Thistle just passed it to her. Gale began to read it outloud.

"When a dragon of lightning meets a dragon of thunder"

"When the queen of the shore claims her crown"

"When the sea breaks a promise and a stone reveals"

"When the forests secret is found"

"a legacy left by leaf, hive and silk"

"turn your wings to the sky"

"5 dragonets must fly to the sun"

"or all 5 of the tribes shall die."

...and gales mind went blank

Chapter 7[]

Silence

Gale and the other 4 had arrived at the dew wing castle a day after they had found the prophecy. The palm wings where busy declaring war, but luckily blackberry stopped them. She signed the agreement and vanished. Thistle and Spinel had also hidden them selves somewhere in the great forest, trying to decipher the prophecy.

Her mother was alive-mist was too wounded to fight. That was lucky, if her mother had been killed mist would have most likely have been happy to go to war.

Blackberry was across the continent.

Spinel and Thistle where hiding

And danios was going home.

She would never say it out loud, nor would the others, but they all knew that they where the 5 dragonets. At least, gale hoped she was. She wanted to prove she was not a weapon of mass destruction, not a dangerous killer

not evil

She Had been spending her time weaving lanterns. In and out, in and out. Some had majestic cranes, others had the 3 moons on them.

in and out, in and out-it was soothing. She needed to think. She needed some quiet-which was why she had locked herself in her room for over a week now. She had spoken with mint, and she confirmed that mist would not be able to challenge her mother for a while-at least a few months

in and out and in and ou-

There you are

Gales head jerked up

it was miserable to find you

she spun around, checking her room for anyone. The rain outside thudded against the roof, loud and strong enough so that she knew they couldn't be outside. But where were they?

Now, now, you won't be able to find me. It took a while for the guards to leave so I could chat with you

Yep, she was going insane.

no, i'm without a doubt real.

I have come to offer you something-power. You want to kill your sister don't you? All you need to do is to come to the large cave on the mountain. A large plant grows there, eat it and you will gain endless power. Everyone will respect you then-

"Alright, mysterious voice. I have no clue who you are or where you are, but you are by far the worst villian i have ever met. oH dEr iLl jUsT gO tO a sCaRy cAve tHaT a wEirD vOicE iS tElLiNg mE tO gO tO" gale said, rolling her eyes

"If you honestly think i'm THAT STUPID- three moons, i'm insulted really". She made her voice as sarcastic as possible, and was proud how regal it sounded

then your useless to me

and with that, the voice was gone. Gale sighed

It was a foggy day, and gale could not be more bored. Mint had vanished, danios had left about a month ago, and she wouldn't see blackberry for a while. So when someone threw a stone at her head, it did, in fact, surprise her. It hit her right by her eye, and she fell off her bed. Pulling herself up, she got hit by another, and another. She managed to work her way over to the window, and to her surprise, she saw spinel waving at her. She rolled her eyes-he stuck out like the moons in the sky. She even knew some dew wings had never seen the color red-he got more then a dew stares. She flew down, and he gave her a "it's about time" look.

"I'm guessing your the one who was throwing rocks at my head?" she asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"You know it!" He replied, cheerfully

"I thought being cheerful was danios's one defining trait" she said, rolling her eyes

She stopped herself, realizing that the voice had come from a pool on her left. Danios was sitting there, looking hurt. Guilt washed over her and she nuged him with her tail

"Alright, i'm sorry. Your more complicated then that" she said, hoping to cheer him up. It seemed to almost work, and he seemed more cheerful

She turned back to spinel, who was giving her an annoyed look

"Alright, your going to need to pack anything you will need" he said, his voice sounding more frigid then normal

"Why?" she asked, confused

"Because we are going to palm beach" he said, matter of factly

she tripped as she walked with them

"WHAT?" she yelled

"Why on earth would we go there? and danios would get killed!" she protested.

Spinel wrinkled his snout, before speaking

"Did you forget the new queen is only alive because danios saved her life? I doubt she forgot. That, and she has the magical tablet thing. She invited us over on a "diplomatic mission" so let's go meet thistle and get going. Everyones staring at me"

The trio flew over the wall, ignoring the eyes of the entire tribe on them. But as they flew out of clarity golf, gale found herself looking over her shoulder constantly

like someone was watching her

but it was always just the wind

Part 2-Under the Sand[]

Chapter 8[]

They had been flying for a while in total silence. until the saw thistle. She was waving her talons, as if gesturing for them to land. When they finally DID land, she glared at them

"I was trying to tell you to swoop down so i could join you. Not land-you know how wild the winds are near the great waters" she said. Gale also noticed That she was directing her voice to just her and spinel-while danios sat, looking nervous.

She could already guess what it would mean, but she kept her mouth shut

"by the moons, its not THAT big of a deal' spinel said, rolling his eyes.

gale shrugged-she found it kind of cute how they acted around each other, like how she and mint did when they where still dragonets

the group dove off the cliff, launching into the howling wind. Gale steadied them with her storm speak, pushing them along lightly. They drifted over massive lakes, roaring falls, and quite streams

"Why have none of the tribes claimed this area?" danios asked, looking at the scenes with awe

it was a good question, but before gale could answer, thistle rushed in, causing gale to roll her eyes. But it wasn't like she was going to stop her now

"The great waters are the barriers between the tribes-that way borders are not broken, and it is a lot more peaceful." She said. That was actually word for word, gale thought, thinking back onto the scroll she had read before about the subject.

danios gave her a surprised look, but turned back to watching the scenery. Gale saw that it was getting way hotter the farther up they went. Dust began to set in, and she realised that danios was having just as much trouble as she was. Then she stopped flying.

"Can we land?" she yelled to the others. They spiraled down to the ground, and she promply turned and smacked danios with her tail

"Ow! What was that for?" he complained, rubbing his snout

"your a reef wing, yet you haven't been breathing underwater at all, and we have without a doubt been out of water for longer then a hour. So how are you still alive?"

He opened and closed his mouth, and spinel and thistle looked surprised but nodded in agreement.

Looking nervous and...scared? he stood up on his hind legs so they could see. The underside of his body was a warm gold, and it looked like it was splintering out of his body. He turned around and smacked a rock with his tail breaking it easily once they had all gotten a good look.

"Oh...OH! your a hybird!" Spinel said, in gales opinion taking way to long to figure it out.

"kind of-my mom was a reef wing, and my dad was a gem wing/reef wing hybird. So im 75% reef wing i guess, which is why i can breathe air and water."

He looked sad then, and gale felt guilty for smacking him a few moments ago

"My dad was killed by queen topaz...you know how she feels about hybirds" he looked so heart broken, and thistle put her wing around him

"No offense, but what happened to your mom?" Spinel asked

Danios looked at him with a look of pure venom, causing Spinel to take a step back. Gale saw something under that look-pure hate and rage, the desire to take revenge. All carefully hidden under a mask of Cheerfulness. She saw that pure hate-both in him...

and herself.

"she was killed by your tribe, in a battle by the sunstone delta" he looked at him with empty eyes, but then quickly flashed it away. Shrugging it off and putting a (very fake) grin on his face, he opened his wings

"Lets keep going now. We are almost in palm wing territory, and we are supposed to meet her at the great garrison" he said, leaping into the sky

gales was surprised, but relieved that they didn't have to fly through the scorching beach all the way to the queens palace. She lept after them, and the group flew closer to the palm trees and sand ahead of them

They had been flying for a while when they saw the shape of several dragons whisking near them. The group was quickly pushed onto the ground as the guards flanked around them, making sure that they wouldn't be able to fly away

"Why are you flying near the garrison?" The main guard asked, looking at the 4 of them like they where criminals.

"We were invited by queen blackberry" thistle called out-she was their ally, and gale knew they would trust her

the guards whispered for a few moments, before the main guard spoke again

"Proof?"

thistle pulled out the scroll-the main guard read it before nodding.

"You are free to go-" and he stopped. The others turned and hissed

Danios looked around, terrified as the unfriendly eyes glared at him. He had just landed on the ground, and it was clear that the guards had just noticed him

"The queen would never-NEVER-invite our sworn enemies to a private meeting" he hissed

"I don't no how you faked the scroll, but you will not be killing her today, coral muncher"

And with that, he pointed his talons right at the danios

"Kill them."

Chapter 9[]

The guards leaped at danios, only to get smashed into the ground. Gale looked down coldly as the groaning guards, a spear made of lightning resting in her talons. Spinel promply leaped at the remaining scout team, ramming them into the ground. Winds roared, and gale launched herself at the captain. Rage filled her, and the terrified dragon frantically tried to push her off. She raised her spear to the sky, and then someone slammed into her, saving the guards life

Thistle shoved her down, and danios leaped after her. Spinel gave her a impressed look, and followed. She looked one more time at the knocked out guards, and leaped into the sky

"What was that for?" Gale asked thistle once she had caught up to her friend

"I doubt blackberry would have been as gracious if we had killed some of her citizens" thistle replied, sending her an amused look.

"Oh" gale replied, her anger hitting a brick wall. why, WHY couldn't she control herself? It was no wonder that everyone was afraid of what she might do-there was a solid chance she would do it.

Rain was pounding down be the time they arrived at the garrison. They got let in without a problem, making gale hope it was the guards being idiots and not her. The entirety of the fortress smelled musty, and it was far to warm for gales liking. But as they went higher, windows and carpets began appearing, gradually getting better and better until it looked like a hallway out of your average palace. Gold talon prints and beach scenes where shimmering on the walls, and sand filled the ground. There were small tide pools here and there, but overall it was very dry. The rain made loud noises outside, and gale secretly tried to freeze it over as much as she could, hoping the fortress would cool off. Finally, they arrived at a white door carved from wood. Veins of glass and gems ran down it, like roots of the mangroves back in the cloud forest. The guard that was escourting them opened the door, and the 4 of them walked inside

the room seemed...basic. A small table and wooden benches where warped around the center of the room, and massive windows decked the side. There were some carpets, and all the windows had silk curtains which where closed, preventing the rain from entering. A dragon was sitting on the couch, deep in thought, and two dragons where standing next to her

the guards became far more annoyed and bristly when the group entered (well, when danios entered) but the dragon had the opposite affect. The group sat down, and thistle tentively ate one of the coconuts on the table. The group sat in silence for a few moments, before spinel finally spoke up

"Do you still have the tablet?" he asked, clearly just trying to make conversation

"Yes. I have it with me right now but I am going to hang onto it I think. Its the most precious religious artifact we have ever gained-words spoken from celista-clearsights mouth. We are trying to create a small temple in the palace for it as of now, and we moved the statue from the island inside it." Blackberry said proudly, it was clear that her subjects had been very happy about this

"Both the statue and the tablet would be safer in the reef wing kingdom" danios suddenly objected, looking up from his claws.

"The old temple is way closer to you-your tribe can worship her there all you want. And besides, first come first serve. We already emptied the temple and are recreating the scrolls, but feel free to visit it in the new temple" the young queen spat out

spinel hurried in, filling the void of conversation, before the two dragons lept at each other

"Annnnnd thistle and I have been very busy deciphering the tablet". he said, looking proud as the tesnion dissolved

"Well? did you figure anything out?" gale asked, hoping the conversation would become magically less boring if she spoke

"Well, we have yet to figure out what "hive" and "leaf" are, but we know what silk means!" thistle said proudly

"What then? some magical animus touched object that can boom and pow what ever is going to kill all the tribes?" blackberry asked-gale couldn't tell if she was joking or being serious, but she assumed it was a mix of both

"SILK WORMS" thistle yelled, causing danios to fall over from the noise

"silk worms" blackberry said, looking annoyed

"S.I.L.K.W.O.R.M.S" thistle spelled out, as if making sure blackberry understood

"mhm..."danios said, looking skeptical

"look, it's the best we could come up with, besides are theory matches more then just that one line" spinel said, while thistle huffed in outrage at no one beliveing her.

"Where do silk worms live?" spinel said, ignoring thistles rage

"The, the sunstone delta-" blackberry said, before snapping her jaw shut as she figured it out

"durian, grab about 20 guards. We will be leaving tonight" she said, turning to one of the two other dragons in the room, who where listening intently. Durian looked annoyed, but nodded and vanished frm the room, quickly getting replaced by a new guard.

"Wait why are we going there?" danios said, as if suddenly being snapped back to reality

"Does "5 dragonets must fly to the sun" not ring any bells? the SUNstone delta. It also has the main silkworm population, which fills in the "a legacy left by silk" or what ever-i bet we will find what hive and leaf means there too" gale said, rolling her eyes. Danios eyes lit up, and he nodded as the group vanished through the doors, leaving the room

unaware of the cold and calculating eyes watching them

Chapter 10[]

Roaring falls cascaded down the cliffs, and orange and yellow trees dotted the the rocky outcroppings. Veins of copper and yellow sandstone ran up and down the rocks, untouched. Gale could see why it was called the "Sun Stone" delta. The guards that had come with them had set up camp at the bottom of the cliff, and they where cooking some fruit they had scavenged, and a boar someone had found and killed around a hour ago.

Spinel and thistle where climbing up and down the basin, while she and Danios had taken to the sky. Blackberry was going to join them, but after some convincing, her guards managed to keep her at the camp, much to her annoyance. Gale nimbly spun through trees, her watchful eyes peeled for movement. She looked over massive caves, and shuddered, slightly. She had always been claustrophobic, and the voice from all those months ago didn't help.

She turned around, and saw the danios had dived down to the river, and was swimming around. She circled back and landed n the rocks by the river, and watched him with amusement. He finally surfaced, and she caught a glimpse of the warm yellow coloring on his underbelly, before he pulled out few large fish he had found in the river.

"I thought we where trying to stop the world from ending" Gale joked, as he began eating his prey

"Its hard to try to stop some kind of evil destruction that is going to bring genocide to the entire continent when your hungry" he replied

Gale shrugged, and grabbed a fish. They sat in silence, the only sound being munching and chewing, before a noise of dragon talons thumping through the forest could be heard

Gale sat up, grabbed danios, who muttered in protest, before diving into the bushes

"What are we doing?" danios said, trying to whisper

"Shh-someone is coming" gale replied back

the sound got louder and louder, and then

"Gale? Danios? Did you guys leave a giant dead fish on these rocks?"

"oh thank queen storm" gale said, walking out with danios close behind her

"There you guys are! Thistle found something!" spinel said happily, brushing their left over fish snack back into the river with his tail

gale lept after him as the darted into the sky, and a few moments later, gale could hear danios coming up after them.

The landed in front of a massive cave. She noticed a few of the guards looking around, poking things with their spears. She walked in, and the light almost blinded her-crystals where hung from every inch of the cavern, and the entire scene sparkled like it was something out of the romance scrolls clement used to read. In the center, blackberry and thistle where looking at something

gale walked up, and saw it was a message. It looked like it was written in the same material that the tablet was, except...newer. She could see the difference, and she could tell blackberry could too. The others didn't seem to care

"Well, its the best lead we have. I TOLD you it was be helpful to come here" thistle said, as if replying to a comment from before

"yes, yes, your very clever. It just feels so off.." blackberry replied, she paused, and had a thoughtful look on her face

"See if we can transport it to the palace, we will leave for clarity golf in the morning" blackberry said. Danios looked like he had swallowed a lemon

when gale looked at the message, she felt the same way all those months ago when she saw her sister try to challenge their mother

the tablet had careful intructions to go to one place and one place only

looks like they where going to the voices cave after all

Chapter 11[]

Gale complained the entire way back to clarity golf. She KNEW that she was trying the groups patience, but why on earth would she tell them about the creepy voice? It was, after all, probably her imagination. Probably. MAYBE. But they wouldn't believe her. Well, blackberry did, but she was still going along with everyone else, and they where most likely flying to certain death.

A greasy feeling on her chest made the flight even more miserable. Her wings moved up and down with the wind. She had always been great at keeping secrets, but she felt like she would blurt THIS one out at any moment. Up, down, up, down. The group was passing over the great forest now, and the trees seemed to try to drag them to the ground. The dark sky glared at them, like it was trying to scare them. The rocks on the ground looked sharper then normal, and her wings felt as if they where on fire. When was flying this miserable? Was she just imagining it?

"I REALLY think this is a bad idea" she called, hoping she could talk some sense into them

"Mhm. You said that 20 minutes ago. And 40 minutes ago. And 60 minutes ago. And-" thistle replied, turning her head to glare at gale

"ALRIGHT-three moons i get it!" she yelled. Spinel looked at her with a worried face, and thistle just rolled her eyes and turned back to the north. The trees where shifting now, Becoming less tall and more wide. The air was more humid. Water flowed more freely and puddles began to enlarge into small ponds criss-crossing along the landscapes. The clouds began to look heavy and seemed to be dragged down. They where nearing the border

"Look, this feels really odd to me too. I know we both could tell the tablet was far newer then its counterpart. But I trust her. I trust clearsight. There was and is a reason that half of the continent worships her, and I need to act as queen and protect my tribe. But if you have any new leads, please feel free to share them with the group" with that, blackberry flew up to danios, who was watching spinel with dark eyes.

Gale shot blackberry and thankful look, though she doubted she somehow saw it. She was without a doubt in dew wing territory now, and she could see the edge of the cliff. The others where clearly having trouble seeing, and the guards with them where fumbling around. She shot danios a amused look, which he returned. She was thankful to have night vision here.

They ended up flying around the palace, in order to avoid any conflicts. The tablet said that if parthana was in the shape of a dragon, then the cave would be near the base of her horn. It was far to close to the old palace in gales mind, but she had already gotten enough death stares from complaining about the tablet being fake-she was't going to protest about a legend for dragonets

The cave was massive. Vines and shrubs clustered around it like a reef, and there seemed to be thousands of plants here. it was by far the most overgrown place gale had ever saw, and it made her head hurt. The others also seemed to be affected the same way, except for thistle, who looked right at home. Gale was glad she never had to see the wood wing kingdom if it was anything like this

"Its....pitch black" spinel trailed off, looking confused. Gale realised that she had her nightvision on-when she fixed her eyes, she saw that they where right...the cave WAS pitch black. It looked like a drop to the bottom of the world

"So, me a danios can go down, since we both have night vision. We will check it out, and you guys can follow. Maybe blackberry can come too-"

"NO" exploded one of the guards, much to everyones surprise. They all turned to him, and he shrugged

"We will not be sending the ONLY DECEANT queen the palm wings have had for 34 years into a pitch black possibly death trap" he replied. Blackberry opend her mouth, but saw all of her guards nodding

"We will sit on you if you try to sneak in" offered another

Blackberry glared at all of them, but didn't protest. Instead she went over to a patch of rock and sat, sulking

"Alright, we can go down in the morning. No need to rush down there" danios said, looking at the hole carefully, before going to where blackberry was. Thistle shot the young queen a glare, before fixing her face before anyone else could see.

Gale walked by and wrinkled her snout at her, and she looked surprised, then nervous. Gale brushed it off

A creepy feeling climbed up her legs and she felt anxious all of a sudden.

She thought back to the fight with her sister all those months ago and brushed it off

But she couldn't ignore the fear creeping up her legs

Chapter 12[]

Gale had never told anyone, and never WOULD tell anyone

she had a fear of the dark

This had never been a problem for her-she was fine around other dragons, and she had night vision. But as she ascended deeper and deeper into the abyss, a sinking feeling clawed up her chest, and her heart pumped faster and faster. Anxiety gripped her talons, and her tail hung limply, like it could get caught on something at any moment. A searing heat pulsed on different parts of her scales, and she found herself crouching. The only thing that kept her from flying back to the cold and sunlight was danios, ahead of her carefully winging past rocks and outcroppings

They finally touched bottom, on what appeared to be a deserted and isolated underground cavern. And there where plants, plants, plant, everywhere. She couldn't even see what color the stone was-so many plants. She had no clue how some of these survived without sunlight, but some had large glowing fruit hanging off them, casting small bits of natural light around the cave. Bugs seeped into crevices and skittled about, eyeing the pair of dragons as they went

"I hate this" danios suddenly said bursting the sound of crickets chirping and leaves swaying

"I couldn't agree more" she replied, wincing as a massive black bug tried to bury itself between her scales. She crushed it, and black goop drizzled off her talons, hitting the mossy floor.

They walked farther down the hallway, and the cavern slowly got smaller and smaller. Soon they where pushed together

then, suddenly, the cavern opened to a massive cave. Gems sparkled along pillars or rock, climbing like dragon claws. Water dripped down, and a heavu silence filled the cave. The plants seemed to gather in a circle in the middle, forming a large canopy.

gale looked back at danios, and he shrugged

the two of them launched off near the canopy. The air was still and dusty, and it kept getting into her eyes, and she had trouble staying aloft. She noticed that a thick current was rushing into the cave, and she guessed the ocean connected inside the cavern. She figured they must be close to the coast line, which, as much as she hated to admit it, DID help prove that clearsight had gone through here

as they walked inside the dome, She saw a massive throne. Bones where laying along the side of the cavern, and...what was that sitting on the throne?

she narrowed her eyes

it seemed to be a scrounger. Odd.

danios suddenly let out a terrified gasp

gales fear spiked to the moons

mists body lay in front of the throne, clearly dead.

Chapter 13[]

Huh.

Hi everyone, so uh your probably wondering why this hasn’t been updated for almost a year now…

first I’m sooo sorry, I never wanted to be that person who made something then didn’t update it.

I used to write this during my free time at school, but that went byebye so I kind of moved on.

And… Now I feel terrible! So I’m going occome back, cringe at my old writing, and reboot the entire fanfiction!

you may also notice I’m not clarity. I promise I’m just on my alt, and I am simply too lazy to actually try and log back in…

anywho, I’m so so so sorry for being that writer. I’ll be labeling which chapters are rebooted until I get back down here and then I’ll be confusing the story as normal!
