Whale(OC)

Whale is a male SeaWing-IceWing Hybrid. He grew up with his father, Prince Barracuda, in the Sea Kingdom. He lived with Queen Coral’s many sons and acted as a sort of chaperone to keep the young princes safe and happy. He trained under his father to work alongside him as a healer. Whale is very observant with emotions and knows how to coax information out of an uncooperative dragon. He is often the one to step in and stop fights among the princes. He is not the most confident with his Aquatic due to missing some bioluminescent scales because of his IceWing heritage. He prefers to stay in the Summer Palace attending to the on-guard soldiers. He is currently in a relationship with Orchidseeker.

Appearance[]

In Talons of Healing, he is described by Barracuda as clumsy with big paws. He has muted sky blue scales with light blue under scales and dark blue horns and markings. Most of the time, his claws are stained with bright colors from the herbs he uses. His horns are adorned with two gold casings, six sapphire stones embedded in each of them, and a sapphire earring in his left ear. He also wears several seaweed pouches when gathering herbs. The underside of his wings has spiral markings attributed to the SeaWing royal family, as Barracuda, his father, is Queen Coral’s son.

Personality[]

Whale has an almost overwhelming and quite positive personality around friends, though around anyone else, he is a calm, level-headed guy with a big heart. He still isn’t welcomed with open wings by many in the Sea Kingdom, especially after King Gill got captured, which leads to his overthinking and anxiety. In Talons of Healing, he thinks, “That's… how I see myself… does she think that too?… I hope not,” after Orchidseeker first meets him, showing his anxiety and self-doubts.

History[]

Whale was born to Prince Barracuda and Storm. Barracuda and Storm met when Queen Coral sent help to combat a deadly disease and formed a secret relationship resulting in Whale. Barracuda was in Orca’s hatching, so he is one of the oldest princes and a gifted healer. Barracuda brought Whale back to the Sea Kingdom to grow up there.

Once Whale grew up, he often went out into the rainforest to top up on herbs. It was on one of these trips he met his now partner Orchidseeker. For him, it’s love at first sight, but for Orchidseeker, it took many of his visits and horrible yet cute attempts at flirting. Whale usually sits out in a clearing, flashes “hello” in Aquatic, and messes with a flower or two to draw her attention. Once they made it official, Orchidseeker stayed on an island close to the Summer Palace, and Whale would sneak out to visit her.

During The Lost Heir, when the Dragonets of Destiny came to the Sea Kingdom, Whale tried to help the dragonets, bringing them food, talking to them, and tending to their wounds. After the war got resolved, the dragonets invited Whale and Orchidseeker to teach at Jade Mountain as healing teachers and combat teachers respectfully.

Relationships[]

Prince Barracuda[]

Although Prince Barracuda is often busy, he always makes time to have a relationship with his son. Whale knows this and cherishes every moment spent with his dad. They only see each other occasionally, as Whale prefers the Summer Palace, and Barracuda likes the Deep Palace. Whale gets his calm nature from his father and the ability to work under pressure.

Storm[]

Storm was never around for Whale's early life. She only came into his life after Darkstalker sent the plague to the IceWings, killing Queen Summit and freeing up Storm. Their relationship is a bit strained, but Whale is willing to do anything to keep his family together. Although now he accepts her and why she couldn’t be there, when he was a dragonet, he hated her for never being there like the other moms.

Queen Coral[]

Whale always thought of Coral as a not-wrong, but misguided queen treasuring her scrolls more than her subjects. Even though he would never say it to her face, he felt like he had to walk on broken shells around her. Barracuda told him what she said about him as a dragonet, but she chose to move on and start over after the attack on the Summer Palace.

King Gill[]

Gill was always sticking his neck out for Whale before his capture, trying to give Whale a “normal” childhood. Whale always looked up to Gill and wanted to be as compassionate to others as Gill was to him.

Queen Summit[]

Even though Whale is never one for holding grudges, he despises Summit for keeping his mother away from him and his entire dragonethood and punishing hybrids for just living their lives.

Turtle[]

Whale sees Turtle as a younger brother. He was the only dragon Turtle trusted to keep his animus magic a secret before he lived with the Jade winglet. Turtle often felt as though Whale was a father figure after Gill got captured and shared his snippets of stories when Whale had time off.

Orchidseeker[]

Whale loves Orchidseeker from her horn tips to her tail, and they are perfect for each other. Orchid is currently trying to teach him self-defense, but he’s not the kind of dragon Orchid is. He loves spending time with her and can be himself around her. He often finds himself staring at her and gets adorably flustered if she catches him, even though they are working toward marriage.

Abilities[]

Whale can breathe underwater like all SeaWings, although he isn't comfortable underwater 24/7. He has some but not all of his bioluminescent scales and can swim marginally faster than other SeaWings due to his large tail. Whale can survive in sub-zero temperatures, but like staying underwater, he isn't comfortable for long periods. The webbing in-between his claws is smaller than most SeaWings, but not enough to mess with his swimming. Interestingly his SeaWing and IceWing blood canceled out when coming to his claws, leaving slightly blunt claws that never seam sharp enough.
