Batch Delete Reminder
We have a batch delete coming up on January 2, 2023. Mark your calendars! You should check out the Batch Delete section in our rules if you need more information about what happens during our routine page cleanup.
Rule Updates
We've added a rule to our User Conduct Policy establishing that we do not allow harmful stereotypes or tropes to be used on the wiki (such as the notion of mentally ill individuals being inherently dangerous).
We have opened Interactive Maps up to public editing. Rule 1 of our Content Policy has been updated to reflect that map creation will be permitted for the user base. Please note that you must follow the naming scheme of Map:FULL_USERNAME/MAPNAME, and that all maps are to receive the Maps (Unofficial) category.
A new sub-rule has been added to Rule 1 of our Discussion Policy that allows off-topic forum games to be played in the Contests, Requests, and Games category.
The note in our Block Policy stating that blocks from the Wings of Fire Canon Wiki and our Discord server may be carried over onto this wiki was accidentally removed at some point and never added back. This has been fixed!
There are also some changes to our rules regarding fanon tribes, described below in the Tribe Management section.
Promotions
One of our content moderators, TheSeafoam, is currently running for admin! Please head over to his nomination thread to vote.
The mod apprentices have all been incredibly helpful so far, and we look forward to creating promotion threads for them this coming January.
Image Bases
We have overhauled our page for image bases to be more organized and functional for individual base creators. Bases now reside on Project:Image Bases/FULL_USERNAME, and will be linked to from the main bases page using the new Image Base template.
We have created base pages for all users with more than four bases. If you had fewer than four and wish to add them back using the new format, you are welcome to do so!
Wiki Templates
We've added a page status indicator template based on your consensus from the poll we ran back in late October. Status indicators can be used for a variety of things, such as denoting a user's content category or what alternate universe a character is part of. You can view the template and instructions on how to use it at Template:Indicator.
Based on this wiki improvement post, we've been reworking our existing notice templates, namely the mature content template and license templates. We made a couple of changes, as listed below.
We have added Template:Public Content. This template can be used on any public page and supports describing exactly what restrictions there are for editing the page.
Template:Mature Content has been renamed to Template:Content Warning and now supports an "author's note" field to elaborate on why the page requires a content warning.
We have removed our existing file license templates and have added a collection of new ones that are more fitting for our wiki. You can see a list of them here.
As mentioned in our Image Bases section, we have also added an Image Base template.
Template:Mature Content will be replaced automatically with Template:Content Warning shortly, so there is no need to update pages yourself.
Fanon Tribe Management
The mod team has consulted with current fantribe managers, and we’ve agreed to change a few aspects of our fanon tribe system. Moving forward, permission is no longer required to make 'special' dragons (e.g. animus dragons, royalty, or hybrids). Any disallowed character types (such as natural AviWing hybrids) are still restricted.
The Fanon Tribe section of our Content Policy has been adjusted to reflect the new system.
Enforcement of the tribe's guidelines will fall back to the moderator team if the tribe has no active managers.
Character creation will no longer require permission. Specific restrictions will be enforced on a case-by-case basis.
We are currently considering further changes to our fantribe system. Keep an eye out in future newsletters!
2023 Tribe Contest Announcement
We are planning to run a tribe contest in the summer of next year, due to the CrystalWings owner leaving the wiki without appointing a new manager. Head over to this blog post to learn more!
Miscellaneous
Here are various announcements that weren't big enough to get their own section.
Achievements: Lucy has finished drawing all the achievements we'll be changing at this time, and you can view all of the finished achievements over here! We are really happy with how they've turned out.
Categories: We finally added a category for gallery pages! Gallery pages should now receive Category:Galleries instead of Category:Miscellaneous.
Discussions: We removed the Archives category. All posts that were archived have been moved to their appropriate category.
