This is a quick overview of what powers each role has and what they’re expected to do. This help page has more specific information on what powers each role has.
For the exact criteria that needs to be met for a promotion, see our Promotion System. Wiki staff members that are not properly performing their job may be demoted.
Moderators
This is the first promotion level. All users must be a moderator before becoming an administrator.
Thread Moderators moderate Discussions, Message Walls, and Article Comments. They are expected to interact with the user base on a fairly regular basis and pay special attention to the Roleplaying board. They can:
Recategorize posts without editing them
Lock and unlock discussion threads and message wall posts
Delete and restore discussion threads, message wall posts, and comments
Edit other users’ discussion threads, message wall posts, and comments
Edit the Discussion Guidelines
Responsibilities include:
Moderating Discussions
Moderating Message Walls
Moderating Article Comments
Content Moderators moderate the wiki itself and Article Comments. While content moderation doesn’t require much interaction with the user base they are expected to remain approachable and friendly. They can:
Lock and unlock pages
Edit locked pages
Delete and restore pages and files
Edit and delete other users’ article comments
Responsibilities include:
Adding categories to pages
Undoing vandalism
Ensuring art on pages is used with permission
Clearing out Candidates for Deletion
This is the second promotion level. All users must be an administrator before becoming a bureaucrat. Administrators moderate the entire wiki and are expected to maintain a good relationship with users. They can:
Do everything Thread Moderators and Content Moderators can do
Create Announcements
Edit pages in the MediaWiki namespace (such as the wiki’s CSS)
Use the Theme Designer
Block users
Promote users to Thread Moderator
Responsibilities include:
All Thread and Content Moderator responsibilities
Helping out the user base by answering any questions
This is the third and final promotion level. As the Bureaucrat role has very few powers in-and-of-itself, most bureaucrats are also administrators. Bureaucrats are typically well known and highly trusted members of the community as they cannot be demoted except by themselves or by Fandom. They can:
Promote users to Content Moderator, Administrator, and Bureaucrats
Block users
Responsibilities include:
Acting as a representative of the mod team
Helping out the user base by answering any questions
