Mobile Chat Skin

I am unveiling my experimental Mobile Chat Skin. This has been in development over the months, and I want to thank everyone who has helped me to test it.

This skin will transform the normal chat into a mobile-friendly chat environment. My custom code will only show up when you're using a mobile phone in portrait mode.

You can find this skin on my website, and it contains advanced settings so you can customize the colors and select a desktop chatskin.

We will not be adding the skin for everybody. If you would like to use this mobile skin, please copy the source code to your common.css or Special:MyPage/wikia.css.

This skin has been through a lot of testing, but it isn't perfect:

• PM notifications only show when the user list is open
• Chatmod icons do not show up
• Little to no chat script support - Chathacks, Emoticons button, GPM...
• If used with other chats, the main chat link will still feature our site's logo
• The menu button, borders, userstats icons, and logo do not change color with customized text
• Standard mobile browser quirks

I'm willing to hear all feedback. Please leave suggestions and bugs on this thread.

Removed Canon Character Pages

Last month, we removed the canon character pages, and cleared out.

With 240 characters on the canon wiki, and more to surely come, it would be hard to maintain canon characters.

Canon characters were intended to be a hub of information, alternative histories, shipping, links to fanfictions that they're in, and other headcanons. Unfortunately, many character pages were never used to their potential, it became very hard to keep track of the fanfictions, and many of our canon characters were stub pages.

We have removed the Canon Template that was used above canon character pages.

We have also removed the 'Characters (Canon)' and 'Characters (Fanmade)' categories, moving all of our fanon characters to the category 'Characters'.

A special thanks to everyone who helped with the categories. I could not have done it without you guys.

New Badge Track

Most of you have probably already noticed, but with the categories moving, we have a new 'Characters' badge track. If you had badges from making edits to 'Characters (Fanmade)' pages, you will still keep your badges.

Linking to the Canon

When you would like to link to canon characters, such as for fanfiction character calls or family in your character's infobox, we would reccomend linking to the canon wiki.

Many of you know that the Wikitext link format looks like [[Target Page]], which generates a link that looks like this:
[[Avialae]] Avialae

If you want to change the text, you type something like [[Target Page|Display Text]], for example:
[[Avialae|Princess Avialae]] Princess Avialae

Alright, if you want to make a link to another wiki, it looks something like this:
[[w:c:target-wiki:Target Page|Display Text]]

Here's an example:
[[w:c:wingsoffire:Anemone|Anemone]] Anemone

Chat Changes

New Moderator Sprites

The most noticeable change will be that our moderators have new sprites.

We used to have custom icons for individual moderators. When we helped canon cleanup their chat code, we discovered an easier, simpler, and more versatile way to set up the user icons.

To keep our code clean, it was easiest to give moderators the same basic icons.

We are using gold dragons for bureaucrats, silver dragons for admins, and bronze dragons for moderators.

If you're an admin and would like to customize your silver dragon, leave a message on my wall.

Chat Script Updates

Emoticons Button

We have added an Emoticons button to our chat scripts.

This is a list of emoticons that you can access from chat. Now you can find emotes you're looking for without having to go back and forth to the emotes page.

Chat Hacks

Due to bugs and problem with support, we have removed the Chat Options Button.

I know many of you used and enjoyed easily accessible chat hacks, so here's a guide to show you how to install it.

If you've never added JavaScript before, you may need to enable your personal JavaScript. (If you've been here for over a couple years you may not). Go to the "Under the Hood" tab of your Preferences, and scroll down to the "Advanced display options" section.

Check the box that says "Enable personal JavaScript". (should be the third from the top), and click the "Save" button.

Now you can add custom JavaScript. Copy the following code:

to your Special:MyPage/common.js or Special:MyPage/wikia.js page, and you will have chat hacks for this wiki.

If you would like to have chat hacks for all wikis on fandom, you can add it, instead, to your global.js page on Community Central.

New Templates

Welcome Message

The welcome message template is used for our automated greeting.

This template allows us to update the welcome greeting across all users' message walls, since the template was added.

It also gives us an alternative way to view new users.

Newsletter

The newsletter template is a footer to put on the bottom of newsletter pages. You can see it in action at the bottom of this thread.

This template links all of the past newsletter threads.

DeathWing Tribe Progres

Alright, this time we're making some progress with the DeathWing tribe.

We're still taking some suggestions on this thread. You can find our progress here.

TempestWing Success!

The TempestWing tribe has been part of our wiki for a month now, and they already have 63 members!

The tribe is open, so users do not need to ask permission to make new characters.

Congrats again to NightStrike!

New Occupation Categories

We're adding some new Occupation categories. Users have given suggestions, and we'll be adding the categories

• Occupation (Explorer)
• Occupation (Healer)
• Occupation (Soldier)
• Occupation (Student)
• Occupation (Writer)

Users may start adding these categories to pages.

• The pages in Occupation (Poet) can be replaced with Occupation (Writer).
• The pages in Occupation (Warrior) can be replaced with Occupation (Soldier).

Character Development Questionnaire

Luster has released a Character Development Questionnaire. This is a list of questions you can ask yourself when developing a character. Check it out!

Condensed Polls

We have a new style of poll we can use. You can see it in action in the 'New Occupation Categories' section.

To compress a poll, surround it in <div class="condensed-poll">. For example,
